  1. As always, THANK YOU for the help. Hopefully I can get things squared away in the next couple weeks. I'll be in touch with more questions I'm sure! Jeff
  2. Okay, here we go...thanks for the input guys. I'll do a little research on music servers and what they entail, so I can converse a little more intelligently. My 6 year old desktop isn't quite as realiable as it used to be, so maybe a laptop could be purchased and used in this case? I use all 70s Mac gear, so as long as I can convert from standard RCA jacks to some other plug, I can go with the new technology. Right now, I have about 75% of my CD collection on my desktop, but it's not lossless. I think everything's ripped at 350 (?) kbps. Would I have to re-rip 2,000+ discs?! Ouch... If there's a website or thread that you'd consider recommended reading on this topic, please feel free to share. In the meantime, I'll try to look around after dinner. Jeff
  3. I did a search of some changer recommendations and came up with two players often mentioned: The Denon DCM-370 and a Sony DVP NC685V I don't mind purchasing either one of these, but wanted to see if anyone else had a 5 or 6 disc changer that flew under the radar. It's a bonus that the Sony is also a DVD player, but it's not a requirement for this application. If anyone has had issues with either of the two players mentioned, please let me know too. Thanks for the help. Jeff
  4. Thanks everyone. Mark, I think I'll give Terry a ring to see what he does. Jeff
  5. I hope to soon be able to play around with an MX 110 I picked up last spring. The top of the chassis is pretty dusty/dirty. If I remove the tubes (or maybe I don't want to?), can I spray Deoxit or some other cleaner on the chassis to clean it up? Thanks in advance. Jeff
  6. Not sure where you're located, but I have a McIntosh MX 110 tube pre that I'd prefer not to ship from the Milwaukee, WI area. No remote, but a solid tube pre that you won't lose a dime on if you decide to go another route down the road. Email me if you're interested and we can talk. Thanks. Jeff
  7. This has been bugging me for quite some time...I have a pair of LaScalas, pair of Klipsch THX Ultra subs w/ KA 1000 amp, a Mac 2105 and 113. When I use the subs, I run my bass/treble knobs flat. If I don't, I can hear the bass level increase on the subs, as well as the LaScalas. I've read over the years that attenuating a speaker twice can be harmful and I don't want to damage either one of those subs. It's not a huge deal, but it'd be nice to hear the system with a few db's of bass added to the LaScalas, in addition to the low end of the subs. This may not even make sense, so please ignore if it doesn't. Thanks! Jeff
  8. Fellas, I know this is probably better placed in the General section, but since I do most of my reading in Two Channel, I thought I'd check here first because I’m familiar with the posters here. I'll save all the details, but I'm mostly curious if my situation is an anomaly, or if others have had a similar experience lately. I sent my 3rd pair (that’s another story) of Custom 3 headphones back to Klipsch on April 8th for replacement due to driver failure/cord wear. Beginning last week, May3rd, I left three polite messages to the Customer Service rep who handled my case. I left messages Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, simply asking the status of RA# XXXXX and if I could get a call with an update. An email to the representative was also sent mid-week, in case voice mails weren’t received. No response... This morning, I called Customer Service again to check the status of my return. Luckily, I received the rep who is handling my return, who mentioned they were in the office last week, but hadn't received any of my messages or email. During the call, I was initially told that my headphones weren’t received. After some additional checking, I was told my headphones were in fact received, but nothing was done with my return...they were "sitting" in Indy. The representative said they would finish the return process today and my headphones would be sent this afternoon. I’m a pretty happy go lucky guy, so like most of you, I would just be happy to have new headphones on the way and wonder why this guy was being a whiner…even though it’s my 4th pair in just under a year. Here’s the kicker, though: this identical situation happened the 1st AND 2nd time I sent my headphones back too. Each time, I had to initiate a phone call to customer service to have my return finished and replacements sent. I want to stress that I’m not posting this to bash Klipsch, but to see if this is a trend, or if my luck has been bad. My dealings with the company in years past for drivers, grill cloth, and general product questions have been absolutely outstanding. But I’m worried that something’s gone awry… Jeff
  9. There will be others with tons more experience, but maybe a bad ground?
  10. Amy, Will the warranty on our Custom line phones be honored with an iem of equal sound quality? Or will our existing phones be fixed? Jeff
  11. Merkin, You saved me a trip out to Big Bend after work today! Glad a forum member snagged 'em! Jeff
  12. Just wanted to mention that I too have experienced the above with my Custom 3's. I'm on my 2nd pair in 10 months, with the right channel failing on my 1st pair after about 4 months of use. My 2nd pair is showing the same wear my first pair showed and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I have channel failure again. I use mine about 8 hours per week and I too keep the cord under my clothing. I'm convinced it's a design flaw, but Klipsch was fantastic with the replacement of my first pair, so I can't complain. Jeff
  13. I lent my copy of Dope to a friend several years ago and it was never returned. The pdf file reminded me of why I enjoyed reading PWK's articles so much... Thanks for the input/info! Jeff
  14. Hi All, I'm parting out a pair of Heresys and realized last night that the K55's in them are the solder terminal, dual phase plug style. My understanding is that this version doesn't highlight a glitch found when installed with some smoother sloped netoworks like the A and AA. But, when used with steeper-sloped networks, the glitch isn't noticed. Is this the only difference between the two style K55-V's? Is the diffrernce noticeable enough to justify keeping a spare set around? Sometime this winter, I'll have some time to swap drivers and listen for myself, but I thought I'd hear some other opinions too. jeff
  15. Hi Everyone, I'm on the prowl for a steeper-sloped network for my LaScalas. I'm currently running a pair of 84's with non-alnico K55's and K77's. Years ago, I tried an AA netowork in a pair of this vintage and wasn't happy. It was determined after some discussion on the forum that the K55-M (that's the newer version, right?) isn't really designed for the earlier networks like the A and AA. However, I have been happy with the sound of A and AA networks in alnico equipped LaScalas. Sooooo, will an AL 2, 3, 4, or ALK be a better choice? I don't have the money to spend on a new pair of Al's networks, but might be interested in used if the price is right. Are any of Klipsch's newer stock networks close to the sound of Al's? I have a spare pair of original AA's as trade bait if anyone is interested too. thanks Jeff
  16. Hi Everyone, I've had a Mac 2105 and MX 113 combo for about 10 years and have been pleased with the sound. I have a spare 2100 amp and pair of Cornwalls that really need to be used more often, so I thought I'd put together a 2nd system. The MX 113 has received mediocre reviews here over the years, so I'm asking for opinions for other Mac preamp/tuner combos that won't break the bank. I haven't had a chance to hear a lot of other Mac preamps, so I'm not sure what I'm missing with my existing 113! I'd prefer to stick with SS, as tubes are a little out of my price range.Thanks- Jeff
  17. Wuzzer, I've heard a couple different pairs of K Horns, but never in my living room. Currently, I run a pair of La Scalas with a pair of Klipsch THX subs and the sound is similar to what I remember from the K Horns. But, I've never heard the two setups side by side, so I can't say for sure which system I prefer. But with the not so great corners in my living room, there's little doubt that I probably have the better of the two options in the existing room I'm dealing with. As people have said before, without proper corners, K Horns aren't able to shine. My point is that you may be able to get a very K Horn-like sound with a pair of La Scalas or Belles with a sub. About once a year, I seem to run into a pair of decent La Scalas in the Milwaukee area in the $500-$700 range. That option may allow you to keep your existing system intact, while adding that signature heritage sound. Jeff
  18. Cal, Not sure what they're going for lately, but McIntosh MC2100's (non-metered version of the 2105) were in the $400 range last time I looked in spring. Although rated at 100 wpc, my 2100 and 2105 both tested well above that. . . near 130 wpc I believe. My 2105 has been my main system amp for nearly 10 years now and hasn't let me down onces. They're tanks. . . Jeff
  19. I try to keep threads in their correct areas, but I tend to lurk in 2 Channel most often, so maybe others do too. . . I have an ad in the Garage Sale area for my Ultra 2 Subs and Amp. I think I'm off my rocker, but I'm willing to part with these for $2,000 and thought someone over here in 2 Channel might be interested. Here's a link to the ad, which will give you all the info you need: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/102077/1029799.aspx#1029799 Thanks- Jeff
  20. I unfortunately hear hiss from the same point on as Keith does. It reminds me of listening to a self-released disc by a local band. . .it's seriously that noticeable to me. T-Bone's a legend. . .can anyone with recording experience explain how this mix/recording could get out of the studio sounding that bad? Is there something while making the actual CDs that could cause this? Jeff
  21. Thanks Bob, that's where I was going. Have a great weekend. Jeff
  22. Thanks for the clarification, Bob. It seems like the AA and AL networks should sound fairly similar. LaScalas with AL networks seem much more harsh to me. Is it all in my head that there seems to be such a distinct difference in sound to my ears? Jeff
  23. I appreciate the input so far. After reading the posts, I don't think I'm typing what I mean. I like the sound of the mid '70s LaScalas with AA networks and alnico drivers. From my experience, simply adding AA networks to a pair of LaScalas with AL networks doesn't equal the sound I got with AA networks and alnico drivers. Is that because it's not supposed to sound the same or because of something else with my system (older, unrebuilt networks, etc.)? I have a pair of AA's laying around. I'd pay to have them rebuilt if I knew that when I installed them in my AL equipped speakers, they'd sound the way my AA equipped speakers sounded. Bob Crites made me think of something when he posted earlier: do the AA networks raise the mid and tweeter levels to accomodate the lower frequency on the V's vs. the M's? At the same time, do AL networks attenuate the mid and tweeter to accomodate the higher frequency of the M's? Is it possible that by adding an AA network to a AL equipped speaker that you're "double boosting" the K55 and K77 M's? Does that make any sense? [] Jeff
  24. Right on, speakerfritz. With preferring AA's and alnico drivers, will a steeper slope network help my current AL equipped speakers? Or, is my preference not able to be had with the K-55M and K77M? I thought a long time ago John Albright said it didn't matter which version of the 55 or 77 you had, it was all in the network. But when I put the AA network in place with my "M" drivers, I didn't think the speakers sounded anything like my alnico driven '70s models with AA networks. Jeff
