  1. Orange Peel, why does 60 or 40Hz suck? The RF7's are more than capable of playing that low. I'd set the x-over at 40 and put your subwoofer's x-over all the way up. That way, your Mains will play 40Hz on up and your sub will get the 40Hz and below. When you're watching a Movie with a LFE track, the sub will get all the information from 20-150Hz. I have my receiver set sort of like this. Mine has to be set at small to use the x-over setting and only goes down to 50, but it sounds great set up this way--Fronts, Center, Surrounds-Small, Crossover 50Hz, Low Pass Filter on sub--150Hz (all the way up).
  2. Yeah the RCR-5's are very nice, they're basically the RB-5's in an in-wall version. I plan to do my upstairs bedroom with RCW-5's and RCR-5's with a Plasma TV and all the electronics tucked away in the closet. It will be sweet. Where did you order the speakers? Do you have a friend who sells the stuff to you @ a discount?
  3. I'm pretty sure Circuit had them for around $15, too. (Disturbed AND Linkin Park) didn't pick them up, though, wish they had both bands' first albums on DVD-A. You're right though, DVD Audio IS awesome! Be sure to check out Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and The Eagles' Hotel California. I currently have 12 DVD-A titles, some better than others, but I gladly paid around $20-25 for each one.

    Band Of Brothers

Just picked up the Band of Brothers Set Yesterday, and all I can say is WOW! It is an excellent story plus the set is very cool. But when I popped in the first disc, the picture and sound quality blew me away!! I watched this series on HBO in High Definition, and I think this DVD looks every bit as good, if you can believe that. Also, it has DTS sound, which you couldn't get on the HBO broadcast, a definite plus. I'd give the highest recommendation to anyone thinking about picking it up. It is well worth the $80.00 investment. I have already watched the series twice on TV, and will probably watch it a few more times in the coming years, so I don't think it is something you'll buy and just watch once.
  5. Around here they sell Digital Audio Speakers. You can find them on ebay all the time. Probably from poor suckers who bought them out of the van and are trying to get rid of them. Home Theater Magazine bought a pair a while back and did a review on them. When they opened them up they found that there was not even a crossover inside the cabinet. The woofer and tweeter were both wired full range. The company that makes these speakers markets their product in this way to make people think they are getting a good deal, perhaps "hot" speakers.
  6. I just picked up The Who, Live at the Royal Albert Hall. It is awesome, widescreen, DTS awesome sound and picture quality, and lots and lots of good songs. Just about any Who favorite you may think of is on this DVD. Definitely worth picking up!!! ------------------ My Home Theater
  7. I've owned both, but never at the same time. I bought the DD and then realized I could've gotten DTS, so I sold my DD version and bought the DTS. It sounds great!!! I only watched the DD for demo, never sat down and watched the whole movie, but when I sat down and watched the DTS version, not really thinking about sound, just WATCHING, I found myself several times saying, "Man, the sound quality on this disc is awesome!" I always use it as a demo when people come over. Can't help you with the sub question, but you could not accuse this movie, DTS or not, of being weak on Bass. I always recommend this movie, DTS version, to people who are new to surround sound. I have never heard a case, on any movie, where Dolby sounds better than DTS. Moon, I would wait on the Titanic disc until they come out with a special edition. Hopefully with DTS, and most importantly Anamorphic Widescreen. The version that is out now is letterbox, looks like crap. And if you're into special features, I can only imagine what kind of stuff they could put on the disc. You would think, the highest grossing movie of all time, they could come out with a decent DVD. ------------------ My Home Theater
  8. Boa, Sounds even better on DVD-A. You will not be disappointed if you buy a player. ------------------ My Home Theater

    U2 elevation DVD

I read the post further down and thought I'd start a new one rather than being tied to that one. First off, U2 is not my favorite band, but I don't see how anyone could not like them. I would love to see them in concert, never wanted to before, but after watching this disc, I will see them next time they're in town. On to my question... On this disc, when I go to set list, I can only select tracks 1-10. If I want track 14 I have to go to 10 and hit skip 4 times. Am I missing something on the menu? I don't usually sit down and watch a whole concert video, just a couple tracks at a time. If anyone knows the secret, please let me know. Don't reply just to say U2 sucks, please. ------------------ My Home Theater
  11. I bought mine for $1012. I knew I'd like the speakers because I had listened to them in the store. But when I got them home I REALLY liked them. That's all that matters to me. Like I said, I'm not in the habit of taking my equipment apart, and don't really have anything else to compare to, but I like the sound, was worth every penny and them some, and that's all that matters to me. ------------------ My Home Theater
  12. I just got my RF-7's yesterday and couldn't be happier. Of course I'm not a geek who takes his electronics apart and tweaks the crossover, etc. The speakers sound great and I will not let some chump who decided to rip apart his speakers, talk about how cheap they are and then turn around and sell them for too much money (the first post says he got greedy). I'm not the LEAST bit worried about the speakers falling apart and will not lose any sleep about it. Kain, good idea, don't buy the speakers you like because of one guy's opinion. ------------------ My Home Theater
  13. I've got the speakers on ebay right now. Let me know if you are interested, I can throw in the mounting brackets if you want. I'll give anyone who is a member of this forum a little discount if they win my auction. Or we can make arrangements if the price is right. ------------------ My Home Theater
  14. Yeah, spare your ears. That kind of volume level is definitely not safe for your hearing. ------------------ My Home Theater
  15. Yes, RB-3's do make good rears. I set them up as surround back in my system, and they sound great. However, they are too big for my room they stick out too much. I was going to get RB-5's but thought they would be too much. I found out the RB-3's were bigger than I thought and have to get rid of them So, I know where you can get a pair cheap . I've even got wall brackets with them. I've toyed with the idea of using them for surrounds (sides), but don't think it will happen. ------------------ My Home Theater
  16. Just got the DVD today. Pretty cool, sound quality is Ok, Video quality is not the worst I've seen. Kind of gritty and raw, kinda like being at the concert. Wish they would've had more old stuff though. Given to fly is awesome!!! ------------------ My Home Theater
  17. J, don't not try it because of this thread. I loved netflix when I first started using it. They usually give a free month trial to see how you like it. It may work out real well for you. ------------------ My Home Theater
  18. Another Shameless plug. I am selling RP-5's, RC-3 center and RB-3 Bookshelves. They are all on ebay right now, at bargain prices. I also have an Adcom GFA-5300 2 channel amp on the block. Any questions let me know. Would be cool to sell them to someone from this forum. I am going to get RF-7's and RC-7, but am keeping RS-3 surrounds because the RS-7's are too damn big!! ------------------ My Home Theater
  19. I did netflix for a while, Four at a time, couldn't get movies back fast enough, and would run out before the next shipment. Then I switched to eight at a time, and ended up with a stack that I never watched and just kept watching new ones, so that really wasn't worth it. Then I went to two at a time, and finally cancelled altogether. Now I just buy what I want, and hardly ever even rent at Blockbuster. I guess I don't watch as many movies as I used to though. ------------------ My Home Theater
  20. Wait, you have a dolby "ready" receiver but you are using optical from the XBox? Unless you're talking an external DD decoder, shouldn't you be using Digital connection? As for cables, I think you can definitely hear a difference with better connections. Most stores will let you take back the cables if you can't hear a difference as long as you still have the packaging, so it can't hurt to try the better ones. And by the way, I wouldn't look at Radio Shack's Audio and video cables being the same as a good thing, I would think you'd want a little more specialized cables for the freq. they carry. ------------------ My Home Theater This message has been edited by toddvj on 04-18-2002 at 12:44 AM
  21. Thanks for the Heads Up. I just ordered from Spun.com, got rid of some old crap and Some new REAL CRAPPY CRAP, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, What a horrible, stupid movie. I saw Pearl Jam in concert a few years back, it was one of the best concerts I've been to. Hopefully the sound quality is better than the live CD they came out with a couple years back. ------------------ My Home Theater
  22. Also Peter Frampton Live in Detroit, Sheryl Crow (don't know title) are DTS. Fleetwood Mac The Dance is awesome but not DTS, just DD. ------------------ My Home Theater

    Superbit DVDs

boa, I can't figure out a way to show the audio bitrate on my DVD, only video. I would be curious to see if the audio is higher than average. I kinda doubt it though. The bitrate on parts of the movie do get into the high 8's though, almost 9. ------------------ My Home Theater
  24. They are not II's they are the originals. As far as asking price, I have them on ebay for a starting bid of $280, but am hoping to get into the $300's for them. ------------------ My Home Theater
  25. If anyone is in the market, I have a pair of RS-3's for sale. I have them listed on ebay, but if anyone on the board is interested, I'll certainly give you special consideration. I'll also be selling my RP-5's and RC-3 in the very near future. Contact me if interested in either. ------------------ My Home Theater
