  1. Every house is different. I put one in 20 years ago and added to it about a year ago. All my windows and doors are armed. Don't forget to do the garage door. The hardest part for me was crawling around in the attic. I have a keypad by the front door and some remote triggers around the house. It's powered by 120 volts with a battery backup. There is a horn siren on the roof. Maybe it's time to put one of my Altec 311-90 horns up there? I bought most of the stuff in kit form from the Rat Shack. They don't sell any as good as the one that I have anymore, you will need to look elceware.
  2. I wouldn't use the iron on edge banding. These days you can buy a good quality contect cement in an aerosal spray can at a Home Depot. You can find edge banding for sale on ebay. This might save you from having to buy a 100' or 500' roll of it from a cabinet shop. Your right about wood getting darker with age, but I wouldn't concern myself too much about that fact. The walnut top I'm getting rid of is from a 1972 speaker. It is lighter then the tops on my walnut late 80's speaker. I think this is because they havn't had an oil treatment in many years. If the edge banding is lighter, or the top is lighter then keep oiling those specific areas. You can also lightly sand the darker areas to lighten them up. It all depends how far you want to take it. Eventually the lighter wood will catch up with the older darker wood.
  3. jc, I have pairs of the M series mid. drivers and tweeters, I want to keep some as spares for my LaScalas, so I have to wait before I can tell you how many more that I'm willing to sell. I might have someone who may take the complete top hats. I'm asking about $1,000.00 a pair, and that includes the drivers, horns, and two part netwooks. If I can't work something out with him I'm going to put them on ebay. I'll let you know what happens.
  4. I may be willing to do that. Would you want me to replace the chipped edge banding?
  5. Forgit it! Here in Florida we still can't get a lot of roofs repaired from last years huricanes. You still see alot of roofs covered with blue tarps.
  6. jwcullison, Did you see the pm that I sent you?
  7. Your right. The type C top-hat sits flat on top of the bass horn. The B style has the raiser between the top-hat and the bass horn. The top board of the top-hat (home plate) as you call it is just screwed in place from the inside. To fix the one that I'm selling I would have to unscrew it, bleed off the edge banding, apply new edge banding, and screw it back on. Unless yours is in real bad shape, why can't you just fix your home plate instead of buying mine. Take yours off and take your time repairing it. You can use the speaker without it.
  8. I'm very sorry to hear this news. I may be like The Ear, because I'm a non believer. That doesn't mean that my thoughts won't be with you. I had a couple of scares, but the news was good. While I waited for the results I used to console myself by thinking of all the things that I would do if I knew that my time was short. Stupid things like start smoking again. Get back into the drugs from my old Hippie days. Eat like a pig. Drive my Vette like there was no tomorrow. Don't worry about blowing up my speakers and amps. So on and so on. You have been a respected Forum member. Thanks for your contributions. When and if it gets bad, get on the Forum if you can. It's good to talk about things. Maybe we can help to keep you strong. 9. Yes it does sound good. One can have the empty "C" top, and one can have the drivers and 400 horn. The top can be fixed. It's only the edge banding that needs to be replaced. You can do that or I can edge band it for you for a price. I could also turn it into a "B" style for you with a little work. I don't want to split up the matching tops at this point. How does $75.00 sound for the empty top as is? K-55V $65.00 K-77V $65.00 K-400 $50.00 Network $50.00
  10. I looked into their products a couple of years ago. I would love to try them, but the price is too high for me. I bet they sound great.
  11. Sorry for starting this and then not getting back with anyone. I had to leave town unexpectedly, and when I got back Monday I found out that my digital camera isn't working. Bob, I'll email you to see what you may want. I don't think that you would want the complete top section, would you? rplace, Yes I mean the complete wood tops. I'm now even thinking that I might sell the whole Klipschorn and build myself the bass-horns. I feel bad splitting them up, but all I use is the bass-horns. Before I decide what to do, I want to find out what you guys want. jwcullison and J.4knee, Shipping wouldn't be bad for just the top sections. Erik, When you were over I was using Altec 805-B horns and Altec 288-16K drivers. I also didn't have the network right. I may be selling them too. Since then I switched to Altec 290-16K drivers and Altec 311-90 horns, much nicer. I want to take a ride to your place sometime and listen to your set-up. I hope the LaScalas I sold you are doing well and didn't fall from the ceiling yet. One walnut top, AA, K-55V, K-77V. wood top is in rough shape. Maybe two Walnut tops in excellent shape. K-55M, K-77M, AK-2 network. Maybe two Oak Black Laquer tops in excellent shape. K-55M, K-77M, AK-3 network. Maybe
  12. I'm cleaning house. Anyone want to buy K-Horn drivers, horns, tweeters or maybe complete tops and networks? I'm going to take pictures this weekend and get some stuff ready to put on ebay. I know for sure I'm getting rid of one Type C walnut top with K55V, K-400, K-77, and AA network. On ebay I will part it out. Maybe someone here want's the whole thing.
  13. chambers, It sounds logical, and you have just reasons for doing what your doing. Just shove those rear Klipschorns into the corners and let us know what you think when your done.
  14. J.4knee, I guess I was in a mello mood when I answered that question. Maybe I slould have said this. Sure, 3 LaScalas will work just fine up front as long as you have a good sub. You will want to cross over to the LaScalas at 65 to 80Hz.. BUT, that is the Lazy mans way to do it. Klipschorns will give you more up front, now the sub can be set from 40 to 50Hz. Get off of your butt and build some false corners for the Klipschorns and toe them into the sweet spot. Now build 5' tall cabinets to put under the rear surround LaScalas . Place the LaScalas upside down on top of the cabinets. Experiment with the LaScalas in the rear corners. If you want more envelopement, face them into the corners. If you prefer a more direct sound face them into the room, or across the back of the room . EXPERIMENT, it's fun and you learn things. I got into this with a single pair of LaScalas. Now I have 3 Klipschorns and 2 LaScalas up front. In the rear is a pair of Jensen Imperials (something like Klipschorns), and a pair of LaScalas. The rear LaScalas are on 5' cabinets and face the front of the room. The Imperials are about 3' in front of the LaScalas and fire across the back of the room. I use one rear center speaker, a University Classic. See, I've been lazy too. I need to put a Klipschorn in the rear center spot, instead of the Classic. My system is ever changing. Don't ever get stuck in a rut, and start to think outside of the box.
  15. They make good rear speakers tucked away in the corners. The midrange and tweeter are almost the right height, above your hear when seated.
  16. I can pick it up, your about an hour from me. You first, what do you want for it? I don't care if you tell me here, or email me.
  17. Back in June when I replyed to this topic, I didn't say it , but I thought A was a new Klipschorn and B was an RF-7. Wow! A new Cornwall. I think that should show you guys that Klipsch does listen to you.
  18. Formica, I love horn loaded bass, that's the reason I built a few horn loaded bass cabinets to compare with my Klipschorns and LaScalas. I wanted as much bass as I could get coming from a bass horn instead of a subwoofer in my home theater. That is why I went with my modified Klipschorns instead of the Classic. Lately, I have been re-thinking that. I havn't been on the Forum much this last year or so, because I got kind of burned out on speakers. I put all my energy into trying different amps and AV/processors. I'm still sticking with McIntosh amps and I settled on a Parasound Halo C1 for the prosessor. The last couple of months I have been experimenting with different crossover setting for the subwoofer and speakers. I'm leaning towards higher crossover frequencies. Some of this is do to standing waves and sound cancellation. I'm liking what I hear with the subwoffer doing more of the work. This has make me think about the Classic again. I could return my Klipschorns back to stock and sell them. I may be able to use the Altec, and JBL tops that I have on the Klipschorns on the Classic. If not those horns are like gold, and will sell easy. Or maybe someone on the Forum will want these tops. I'll worry about that, if it comes down to that. It's time to get back into speakers and I want to play with the Classic again. It's a never ending quest. I felt that I made the Klipschorns be all that they could be and I didn't feel the need to do try anything elce. Now I'm beginning to think about speakers again. I sure do like having a Klipschorn as a center channel. I run it full range and also send bass below 45 Hz. from that channel to the sub.
  19. Can you see this? I tried it Formica's way, but I had to re-size it to get it to load. I think I made it too small.
  20. Here is a look at the Classic from the top durning assembly. D-Man is correct, I do like this bass horn. I have Klipschorns, Jensen Imperials , LaSc alas and the Classic has a cleaner more real sound.
  21. I've had a lot of AL-3's, and I never had one with the zenders.
  22. I HATE BUYING TIRES. I have four vehicles and it seems like one is always needing tires. My oldest son is in collage and I got him a used Comaro when he was in high school.. My youngest son is in high school and I just put him in a used Firebird. I got my wife a Vette with the hopes that she would like it, so I could drive it when I don't need my truck. I also told her that she deserves a car like that, since I'm always spending money on audio gear. [] So far so good. My truck has 23,000 miles on it and I just spent $800.00 on it's first replacement tires. I though that was a little high, but a heavy duty truck takes heavy duty tires. I'm pricing tires for the Vette as we speak, and I must admit that I was shocked at the cost. The Vette has 13,000 miles on it and four new tires are going to cost me $1,750.00 to $2,250.00. Of course they are performance tires, but the big reason that they cost so much is because they are run flat tires. The Vette doesn't have room to cary a spare tire so you have to use run flat tires. There are air pressure sensors in each wheel that monitor your tire preasure. The $1750.00 puts me back into the stock Goodyear tires. The higher priced tires are made of an even a stickier rubber compond. Great for performance, but they will wear out faster. I think that I'm going to stick with the Goodyears. Something elce to look forward too every 13,000 miles.
  23. Your right the Charger that I drove had the small Hemi, I think they said 340 HP. Now the SRT-8 sounds interesting. I agree the GTO is ugly, and looks nothing like it should. The 400 HP with the six speed manual is a blast.
  24. I took one out a couple of weeks ago. Steering is sloppy and the car is slow. I felt like I could take a nap while waiting for it to hit the red line before I had to shift. For some reason the Hemi 300C was more fun to drive. Try the new GTO. I had to make my shifts quick to keep the needle out of the red line. Great control, and you can do a lot of the steering with the rear wheels.
  25. You can always go darker, that's easy. Just use a stripper to take off the finish coat and apply the stain after the veneer is clean and dry. It's very difficult to go lighter.
