  1. You're right, Frz, I should have mentioned what I have: '77 Klipschorns with type AA networks. Dean, that A you show isn't the right one, then. Right?
  2. Sorry to start a topic that's been done to death. I did a search but I'm a search numbskull. I'm well aware of Al's crossovers and Dean's. When I returned to the forum, I thought I read about people replacing their crossovers with fresh ones from Klipsch. True? Available? Brain damage? I've contracted a mild case of upgrade fever. I ordered a blueberry and I'd like to freshen the speakers on the cheap. For now I'll run the blueberry through the amp section of a 70's Luxman integrated I'm using. Wish I could find one of those Marantz 3 channel chip amps. I'd like to find an orphaned LaScala or Belle and do the center channel thing. Later, when I can afford one, I'd love to have a decent tube amp. Something along the lines of the 8b I used to run with my old Paragon E.
  3. Wow. So this articulate pinhead is auctioning a set of ALK crossovers? Suppose he hangs or lurks around here?
  4. True, nectar. I have a 70's Lux integrated that sounds pretty good with my khorns. Though my favorite SS so far with them was a massive NEC integrated (think it's the A70 or something) from the 80's. But it crapped out & I never could find anybody who could do the repair.
  5. Since those Carvers run rather cool, why not place them in the closet behind the equipment rack? Then you should be able to free up enough space to reconfigure things there to accomodate a tt. The closet strikes me as a good place for a tt.
  6. While we're on the subject, two more questions: The first one is directly related. 1. One of my speakers uses a 24' run, the other a 44' run. I'm using 12 ga. wire I got from HD I think. Adequate for that length? 2. If I get monoblocks, do I place them with each Khorn or do I keep my longer speaker wire runs?
  7. I had both a Rega P3 and a Technics SP10 with SME 3009II (fixed headshell). The SME is much more fussy than the Rega arm, but I consistently got better performance out of the Technics rig. So I sold the Rega. Ducking for cover! But I'd like a new cartridge and I'm unsHure of what to do. For under 200 clams.
  8. My first KHorn experience was in a stereo store and I was demoing some other speakers with an organ recording. salesman throws a switch, and suddenly a huge fluttering sound fills the room...actually pressurizes it. I asked "what's that noise?" Sales guy says that's the record. Huh? How is it making that sound? He said it's just a low pedal. "But why couldn't I hear it before and now I can?" He pointed to the KHorns in the corner. But that's not what convinced me. It was when my wife & I visited a friend after she had inherited her daddy's audio gear. It consisted of a '54 & '58 KHorns in piano balck, Mac C-22 & 225 amp AR table. I had just come from the record store and had only classical guitar music in hand...which I listen to a great deal. It was the stunning reality & presence of such an intimate & small sound-even at low volumes-that sold me. Horns aren't just about volume & low distortion. They are about speed & presence. Later, our friends moved & we babysat their system for 3 wonderful years. After they picked them up, I went right out and bought a set for myself.
  9. Dang, I just googled shinall. How the heck they get away with that?
  10. Thanks for the re-welcome, folks..................good to be back

  12. Hello folks. Former sometimes forum participant here. I've got 77 Khorns. I'll be the first to admit I play my classical guitar more than my stereo. I say hi to Mr. Deneen because I was a Paragon E owner, and wish I still was. It was teamed with a Marantz 8b and they made such beautiful music together. Sigh. When the aging Paragon developed some problems I traded away the pair. Big mistake. So, I've been motoring along with a 70's Luxman integrated until a channel crapped out the other day. Now i'm jonesing to get back to the glories of tube. Blueberry is so tempting, but I'm unsure if I can meet the tariff.
  13. I used to post on the old board as an avid 2-channel person. But the more I play guitar (classical) it seems the less I listen. I do like the way my son's hideous mix 7 match surround setup sounds. I'm thinking my Khorns could be a good start for my system. Problem: The Khorns are on the wall opposite the TV. So they would be the rear speakers. Is that nuts? Suggestions?
  14. Oh, BobG, my repeat posts were entirely unintentional. Sorry. I don't know how in the 'sam hill' this happens...I'm not given to repeatedly hitting the post button in a fit of juvenile impatience. Likewise I'll try to be patient regarding the Heritage line. Foldedhorn...if cosmetics are important you should have bought Belles. I mean the LaScala is a (very goo) PA speaker with raw birch veneer plywood. Paint them. China is NOT the answer for the Heritage line, IMO. Higher prices (justified by a redesign & cosmetic upgrade) and stocking dealers is the answer, imo.
  15. And Bob, YOUR response would be....? Klipsch's response would be....? Is there any committment to the Heritage line? Don't I rememeber you saying there is a new plan in the works along these lines? This is me, anticipating...

  21. Or this site could be used as a negotiating tool with a legit dealer?
  22. Check this one out "DocFlywheel" in New York. He is offering some attractive prices on Klipsch, including Heritage line. http://home.earthlink.net/~byrder/dochome.htm
  23. I think the Adcom sounds better. See if you can get a 700 on ebay & save a bit
  24. Bill, nah, we've had it with Mardi Gras. It's just not like it was in the 'old days'. Some years we go to the Meatairie parades cuz relatives live on the parade route. Jazz Fest is a great event, though! I've never heard an SET system, and I'm not curious enough to sink $ into a personal experiment. In fact I'm looking to liquidate my tube gear to get a decent ss setup. My motivation isn't the dynamic power issue but has to do with the lower noise floor, which I think is important in high efficiency setups. I still miss my NEC A11, what a great integrated. Haven't found one in 2 yrs of seeking on the net. So I'm looking at Mac, Accuphase, Monarchy, others. Almost got a Threshold SL10 pre but got outbid at the last minute.
  25. Even orchestral musicians are plagued by hearing loss. Interesting link: http://www.kdsi.net/~sherman/hearingloss.htm I see that there is a variation in how each individual is affected. I promise, I won't say any more...I'm in danger of sounding like a nagging mom.
