  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=802737411 Tough call! Go for the black one in the auction that ends Tuesday or wait and go for the oiled oak. Decisions, decisions...
  2. >>Do the Cambridge cubes sound better than RS3's? If so, excellent analogy.<< The point of the analogy was to illustrate the fact some people have other things they hold to be more important than audio quality. There might be other, more important, reasons besides quality of sound that cause her to want Bose. Those shouldn't be disregarded. You are correct on one point. He should at least ask her why she wants Bose. If she still wants it after that conversation then that is what she should get. Not everyone cares about the sound, they just want to hear something playing.
  3. Dustin is correct. They changed packaging a while ago. I had the same type you had. I didn't have any problems with damage. The foam is supposed to be under the grille. I didn't have any problem with the sock covering so I can't speak about that and I haven't measured it. Look on the bright side, your sub sounds as awesome as you expected it to. I wouldn't worry too much about the packaging.
  4. I'm glad Big Bean is getting her the Bose. Look, we all pretty much agree that there are other products which are both better and cheaper. That said, Bose is what she WANTS. How would any of us like it if we asked our spouse/parents to get us a pair of RS-3's but they got the Cambridge Soundworks cubes instead? They figure they sound really good and they're so small. 'I'm sure that's the better choice because who in their right mind would want big speakers all over the place?' If that doesn't convince you then how about this? Your mother changed your diapers for you, got up to feed you in the middle of the night, and made your needs her top priority for many years. Get her what she WANTS!
  5. Uh oh, Desgolf is in on the bidding now... Four rabid Klipsch owners going for the same Academy. I think this is gonna get ugly.
  6. >>My condolences to those of you bidding on the Academy. I see at least 3 forum members going after it, and looks like prices are heading up uP UP! Good luck!!<< Thanks! I wasn't looking to pick one up as I am happy with the KV-3. However, there's something about an Academy auction that gets the blood pumping! We'll see how far it goes. If the price ends up in the range it used to get to then I'm out.
  7. I'm currently using a KV-3 with my Forte II's and I'm pretty happy with the setup. I don't feel the need to upgrade the center channel. I'm going to , but I don't feel I NEED to. I'll pick up an Academy when the right deal comes along. The KV-3 is doing a great job. I haven't heard a KV-4 so I can't help you on that one. I agree with Jhawk92, get those Forte II's! Of course, it's because of him I have MY Forte II's so it was likely that I would agree with him. They are absolutely amazing speakers.
  8. Kg-3's since 1991 but I'm about to sell them cheap to my father. I've had the KG-4's for 2 years and the Forte II's for a couple months.
  9. Congrats! You'll love the SVS. My 20-39PCi was the single biggest improvement I've made to my system. They're amazing. I'm using Monster Cable subwoofer cable. Works fine for me.
  10. Well, now that I've uploaded one I may just keep it. I can always go back to my grinning green goo ball later on.
  11. I have the same issue with my 20-39PCi. What I've ended up doing is leaving it on auto but when I watch a movie or listen to music I flip the switch to on. I don't use the HT setup for regular TV viewing. If I did I would probably leave it on at all times.
  12. I've been listening to a bunch of receivers and amps trying to decide what to upgrade to. About a 2 months ago I finally got a chance to demo a Rotel combo (RSP-976/RMB-1066). As soon as I heard the Rotel the search was instantly over. I absolutely LOVE the Rotel sound and I'm currently saving for a RSP-1066 and RMB-1075 combo. I can't wait to hook them up to my Forte II's! BTW, the shop didn't carry Klipsch but they did have Paradigm. They're considered bright as well so I have a good idea of what the Rotel will sound like with Klipsch. This message has been edited by erdric on 09-19-2002 at 03:03 PM
  13. Okay, I'll open myself up to the abuse....I like the older Klipsch speakers better and probably always will. Give me oiled oak anyday. They're Klipsch so they're better than any other brand but the main speakers in this system just don't appeal to me. The surrounds are nice though.
  14. dbimage, >>I have to say as an SVS owner that I couldn't agree more with the moderator. You come to the Klipsch site and promote your product without identifying yourself? Sounds a little underhanded.I don't come here under an assumed name to promote anything and neither do most folks here.Exposing yourself for all to see is called honesty in my opinion (for what its worth). How about a new handle such as SVS_VP?Then folks know exactly what they are dealing with.<< How can you be an SVS owner and not know that TVodhanel (TV) is one of the founders of SVS? His name is all over the web and on the SVS website as well. In addition, it's near impossible to even hear about SVS without being online and reading reviews or posts. Tom and Ron are mentioned constantly in SVS posts. I find it difficult to believe that anyone who has read about SVS hasn't heard of him. Isn't calling Tom's posts and/or actions 'underhanded' just a little strong? He has NEVER hidden his identity from anyone. >>1)Tom Vodhanel is well know to YOU, Mike. This is a little hobby of mine , not my life.I don't every manufacturer by name.<< Come on, Mike's points are valid. Tom IS well known around the HT/audio subwoofer community. Just because he's not known to you doesn't mean he's hiding his identity and ties to SVS. You know what's truly sad about all of this? Tom and Ron are eventually going to tire of all the abuse and stop posting. When that happens we will all lose an extremely valuable resource. I hope those that cause it to happen will be pleased with themselves.
  15. Spring 1991 at Tweeter in Hanover, MA. I even remember which listening room and the music (1812 Overture). How pathetic is that? I had been looking for speakers for close to six months and couldn't find anything that sounded right. Every speaker I listened to prior to the Klipsch sounded, stop me if you've heard this before, like a blanket was over it. Within a minute of hearing Klipsch (KG-3's) I knew I was buying them.
  16. >>Remember I said a good structural engineer will know, but you also need to know a lot about audio and cylindrical enclosures and low frequencies as well. Anyway I don't like the idea of cutting a hole in the cylinder to mount the amp, my opinion<< Well, I guess my years of education and experience in the real world are not 'good' enough for you. At least I can provide credentials to back up my comments. You're not providing anything but an axe to grind WRT SVS. Let me see...are you suggesting that anyone who agrees with the premise of putting an amp into a cylinder doesn't know a lot about audio and low frequencies? Are you kidding me? Well, I guess you must be right given your vast knowledge and experience (still waiting for your credentials). I NEVER should have listened to those idiots Tom Vodhanel, Dr. Hsu, and Tom Nousaine. ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME?! Your posts have to be the most uninformed comments I've read in a long time. >>I have offered plenty why the cutting of the cylinder is not good, my opinion<< You haven't offered ANYTHING! No FACTS, no CREDENTIALS, NOTHING but your opinion and believe me, we all know what your opinion is worth. Why, WHY do I waste my time with trolls?
  17. I built a pair of stands for my KG-4's. The stands are 12"x12"x12" wood cubes with an oversized platform attached to the top. I reinforced the interior of the box and filled it with play sand. The stands weigh about 90lbs each. I raised the speakers to get the tweeter higher obviously. I filled the stands with sand in an effort to transfer the bass energy of the speakers to the floor.
  18. Jonesey, You keep suggesting TV should ask any structural engineer about the loss of structural integrity caused by cutting the cylinder and replacing the material with a steel plate amplifier. What structural engineer have you consulted with? Names and credentials please. I'm an architect in Boston. I've had training in structures, both theory and application WRT to framing systems and more importantly, properties of structural shapes. I agree with TV's comments. You're wrong so why don't you stop trolling? If you don't like the looks of an SVS then fine, that's your right. Your comments about the sound go against professional reviews as well as what has to be at least 1,000 user reviews on various forums. Until you start backing up your comments with real, verifiable facts and sources with credentials then it's extremely difficult to take anything you say seriously. 19. If you can't move the speakers away from the TV then call 1-800-klipsch and ask Trey Cannon about bucking magnets. I just installed a pair on the woofers of my Forte II's and it solved my distortion problem. Good luck.
  20. Those Chorus II on Audioweb have been there for a while now. I don't know why that guy thinks he can get $1500 for the Chorus when you can get them for $750 to $1,000 on Ebay. I mean, the other guy in Texas is selling Chorus II's for $825 on the same page! I also noticed the photo was the same for the Forte II's as the Chorus II's. This seller doesn't seem to be very experienced in the art of selling.
