  1. I'm keeping mum... Even though it's making me vibrate with excitement.
  2. Say it ain't so!!! haha, it always works out. I'm super excited about seeing you guys, after all these years! I feel like you were my guardians all these years through good and bad times. Sure changed my attitude on hi-fi! here is a shot of my new livingroom, please forgive the mess, I've only just moved in, but I did the my priorities straight, audio first, video second, boxes, yeah... You can see my 55" Mits HDTV, Heresys, HK-430, AppleTV and my HD-Antenna (need an HD-Tuner still...)
  3. Not at all haha, but I found a deal at Overstock.com, http://www.overstock.com/?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=2330588 I can't handle paying for Starbucks at an airport, I work for the company and to have to pay full price (no discount) at a licensed concept store with their airport markup... I did it once today can't stand to do it again haha. Leaving on another flight on the 27th to Washington DC and New York for 11 days... Kinda think some new luggage is in order and if I order today, it will arrive by the time I leave again. This stuff is only $130 with a 6 year warranty and normally priced at $500. Thoughts? Just another expense in the most expensive week of the year and none of it was fun expenses! Car was vandalized, starter broken two days later, moved from Texas was $600 for U-Haul and $250 for gas, movers were $275, replace the light fixtures, the faucets, paying for two apartments, lots of travel, phone line installation $85 (still doesn't work...) and that's just the tip of the iceberg! I'm so glad to be away from all that... course then my bag did just break... LoL! -justin
  4. I'm waiting for Seadog to arrive, sitting outside of the Brookstone contemplating buying a new bag as mine broke during transit, paying the $8.00 for the wireless internet and charging my cell. Anyone else doin' the same?!
  5. I have a Honda Accord with 187,000 miles on it but right now, cause I'm home, I'm driving a Mercedes C230 Kompressor (I like it)
  6. There is a set selling here in Columbia, MO for $100 USD a pair. Pretty decent shape but the cabinet material isn't super, to me at least. I have seen them going for around that price on eBay, was surprised they were so cheap.
  7. Have you guys seen the Sony DAV-IS10? It seems to be even smaller than a BOSE speaker and in direct competition with the new, pretty darn small CS-700, speakers from Klipsch, if not in performance, at least in function. It's $800, has dvd to near HD upscaling, HDMI, 5.1 surround, bluetooth streaming and iPod dock (optional) all coming at you with silver dollar sized speakers and 450 total watts. I don't expect much from it but, thought I'd drop a note about it.
  8. Put me to work huh? haha I got my flight reserved, damnit though, had I done it yesterday, would have been $109 round trip, now it is $192. Haha, funny how that works out. Fri Jun 22 1527 Depart Kansas City(MCI) at 09:10 AM Arrive in Indianapolis(IND) at 11:35 AM Mon Jun 25 1271 Depart Indianapolis(IND) at 05:55 PM Arrive in Kansas City(MCI) at 06:20 PM Yay!
  9. Ok Ok Ok! You guys are awesome. I'm booking my flight tonight or tomorrow, southwest is cheapo, only around $100 with taxes! Should I fly in the 22 and leave the...? 24? 25? Thoughts? Thanks!
  10. I will call my parents and see if they can't help a poor college boy out. I have been looking forward to this since I was in high school!
  11. Well crap. This iPhone business plus my new apartment and someone trashing my car with basketballs... It will be keeping me from the pilgrimage. I have the money for a flight, $100 round trip, but hotel accommodations, I just can't do a few hundred dollars right now (have about $7,000 in bills (lasik, car, new big screen...) Thwarted yet again. I'm looking at a hostel, only $25 a night... I'm in college, I could do an adventure. How far is 4903 Winthrop Ave. from a ride to Klipsch?
  12. I haven't even dreamed better. My mother would love that room... as much as I do. Awesome job.
  13. That pentagon picture is shrunken down, the original is around 4000 pixels wide, sneakily taken from my Midwest Airlines flight. Damn! I would have loved to stop by... ok, for now on, everytime I make a flight out, I will post it on the boards. I do make special appearances and my fees are pretty damn low. Ok, so I'm realizing that the 40gb hard drive is a little too small so I'm trying to give myself the balls to open the AppleTV and put in this extra 120gb hard drive I have. I'm afraid of it being too hot, the Fujitsu that is in there is known for it's near silent performance, low power and very low heat. How do you rip HD-DVD's from a Mac? My iMac has an HD-DVD drive, I would love to try that out and play it on the AppleTV.
  14. I feel I should add, just so you guys don't think I'm crazy for not just building a HTPC, that the new apartment I'm moving to is not wired for cable and you are not allowed to have satellite dishes. The building is a registered historic building and while I can't get any type of cable tv or satellite tv, I can get broadband through either the wireless network provided by my school or through DSL which the building is wired up for. So AppleTV works out for me. I would be paying around $60+ a month for cable TV and DVR. I would get all my favorite programs on DVR or live and it would be great, only I would be throwing the money away when I had to delete the videos from the DVR to get more room. With the AppleTV, I can buy anywhere from 1-4 entire series off the ITMS and have them synced to my AppleTV with every new episode and get to keep the files forever. I have been doing this for a while now, even though I have HDTV Cable right now. I have over 100gb's of TV shows off iTunes, that's 445 episodes of 95 different shows! You can get some real deals too buying from the ITMS if you know when to look and don't miss out on all the free episodes they release on there.
  15. Rumor has it that apple is in talks to acquire the company that makes the DVR capability for macs. I have forgotten the name of the company, but it makes the most popular program that turns your Apple computer into a HD-DVR/DVR. If this were to happen, it might be a matter of simply allowing the AppleTV to be upgraded through the upgrade utility and then use one of the various outputs as an input? Meh, probably could happen but most likely apple would release an AppleTV Extreme which would do DVR. As it is right now you can use this companies software to capture your TV shows in high def or regular broadcast/digital and automatically import them into iTunes and then of course sync with AppleTV. As I understand it at least. As far as plugging in a USB hard drive. You can't do this natively but it CAN be done, and somewhat easily it seems. You plug in a drive that has been cloned based on the original drive and do a reboot of the AppleTV. It loads up the USB drive first and there you go. Some people have already hacked the AppleTV into a computer device with Firefox and keyboard functionality. Also, code is written into the core OS of the AppleTV that deals with syncing games with iTunes... leads me to believe Apple will be turning this or perhaps future AppleTV's into media portals going beyond regular media and into interactive media such as the case with PS3 and XBox360's gaming and VOD systems. There are around 10 games for iTunes right now, I have three of them and love it. If an update comes around and they move to the AppleTV, I will be psyched!
  16. My friends come in four varieties. Ordered in popularity (highest first) Don't care and think I'm insane Think they have an amazing system (HTIB) Want me to help them convert to something higher end Old school fanatics just like me It's really a shame but true []
  17. So, fresh back from my trip to New York, Washington DC, Maryland and New Jersey, I get a call from the Apple store here in Columbia that both my AppleTV and Airport Extreme had arrived. Previously I was using a Linksys 54g router for the main networking and an Airport Express to stream music to my HK430 and Heresys. It worked alright, though the Linksys didn't really like the Airport Express. Well, I unboxed the two and had them BOTH up and running full power within ten minutes. The AppleTV is connected to the HDTV (42" LCD) via component and to the HK430 through stereo RCA. I couldn't take advantage of the HDMI since my TV only has one HDMI input and it is through the HDTV DVR and since the HK430 doesn't have a digital audio input... The AppleTV works great, I started out just streaming the movies, music, tv shows, podcasts... from my computer. The AppleTV only has a 40gb hard drive (32gb available) so there is no way it can hold it all. At first I thought I would be upset with the limited hard drive space, but considering my iMac is on nearly 24/7 and the two are connected through 802.11n (super duper fast), that problem isn't really a problem, for me at least. In order for me to not have to worry about hard disk space, I would need at least 500gb on the AppleTV. Right now I have around 400gb's of media in iTunes and by the end of this year I will be beyond 1tb, there really isn't a media center that even comes close to that that isn't a stand alone computer type deal (and very expensive, although also very versatile). Some people have already hacked the AppleTV to have 120gb hard drives, and larger. If they ever make a slim enough 1tb or greater hard drive, maybe I will play with that. The AppleTV sends out a 1080i signal which is more than any of the media it currently streams. The sound quality and picture quality is fantastic. I rip my DVD's to iTunes through Mediafork at 1350kbps H.264 mp4. Takes about 45 minutes to rip a DVD and the results are pretty great. I have ripped only about 50 or so DVD's so far and each and every one plays just perfectly on the AppleTV. Playing music is an experience, the visuals are great, everything is classic Apple smooth. Ridiculously smooth. The pictures I take with my Nikon D80 are synced at their full 10.2mp resolution and jeeze, they POP on the screen. Streaming from the iMac works really well. It takes a while for the initial connection to be made but once you get it connected it is just as fast as navigation from the AppleTV's hard drive. Some gripes though (3). You can't shuffle music videos for parties. That is ridiculous. I have over 300 music videos purchased through the iTunes Music Store and to not be able to shuffle them for a party, only able to select a single song at a time, is just plain stupid. Same goes for the Front Row software on all new Macs. It really annoys me. While the AppleTV remembers where you left off on your TV shows and movies (even if watched from iTunes or Front Row), it doesn't remember where you left off in your Podcasts. A one hour podcast like Keith and the Girl needs that. Just as with a DVD player or CD player, you can't change the volume of the programs playing. I guess it wouldn't be a problem is my amp had a remote control, but the HK430 doesn't. Anyone wanna modify it to do that for me? I might finally be buying a new receiver, one that can handle a few more inputs and a remote control. It is amazingly small and intelligent, the menus and quality are top notch. Check on out sometime!
  18. Get an Apple Airport Express and stream from iTunes to your speaker system, or get the AppleTV or get the Airport Extreme. They will all do what you want and then some for not too much. I love my Airport Express and have ordered both the AppleTV and Airport Extreme.
  19. It gets easier and harder for each generation. My grandfather didn't have shoes until he was 16. My dad bought himself a car when he was 16. I had a Range Rover when I was 16 that he paid for. My grandfather knew no crime as a child, didn't have much of school to go to on the island. My dad went to an "ok" school and got a decent education. I went to a great school and got a great education. I have had it much easier than my father and his father but there are things they didn't experience. They both never would dream of a school shooting. bombs on airplanes. being drugged at a party. I mean, i could list things for days. Every generation has a trade off. better this, worse that. I have it so much easier, and at the same time I don't. My parents worked hard to give me an easier, happier life than they had. They succeeded!
  20. wrong forum, try down in promedia, however... what model do you have? if the promedia 5.1 line, tap the power button to go into HP mode (headphone). that disables the speakers and enables the headphones.
  21. are you talking about on website forms? tap the the radio button/checkbox section and use the arrow keys to select the radio button or tab to select the box, press the space bar. oh, and my WPM at it's fastest was 125 or 145 and averages around 85
  22. I have a six degree story to Anna Nicole Smith. Many know I'm from Houston, some know I worked for a small chemical company out there. My supervisor's brother dated and was engaged to Anna Nicole Smith (Vicky Lynn Hogan) and broke it off when she wouldn't stop stripping and doing drugs (something like that). Afterwards, she would show up at my work (before I worked there) trying to find out from my supervisor where he was, she wanted to be back with him... A few months later she was married to Marshall. When E! did their True Hollywood Story on her, they tried to interview the ppl at my work about her but we would not give any comments regarding her and her antics. So there we go, my connection to ANS. My old boss's brother's ex-fiancee. I never saw her in person. She sure was beautiful, but boy could she look the mess...
