  1. Welcome to the forum! IMHO the RS would provide you with a better surround then a book shelf. I've run them both, but my RS 7's do a better job than RB 5's. I've not used the RS42's or 52's so I will let others comment specifically on those models.
  2. I never knew that such a beast existed. I'm glad you like what you hear and that gets a very high rating for the cool factor.[Y]
  3. I don't know exactly, but I would say anything under 20 is still considered a harmless hobby.
  4. Are you going to hold off on selling the Chorus 2's until you get the 7's for a real A/B comparison? Can you take yours to a dealer and have a listen first?
  5. Nice purchase! I have a friend that purchased those Aperion's and then I got my 7's and the look on his face when he came over and heard them for the first time was shocking when I played some of his favorite cd's.
  6. Good for you! Now you have a center that will sound fine and allow you to search out a good deal on the 7 while you enjoy the one you have.
  7. If that was intentional that's just absolutely hysterical and needs to be made into a greeting card.[]
  8. The Carvers are rated at 120 into 8ohm and around 300 or 350 bridged if I remember correctly. I've run them bridged on the 7's for a while, but haven't run the 7's with the QSC as of today, but I will soon, I just have a lot going on right now and only got as far as bringing the QSC down and setting it on the shelf.
  9. Have you considered Copper? Those are some very nice looking pieces no matter what.
  10. If they're a good deal, jump on them before someone else does. As Budman already said you can call Bob and order 100 of them if you want.
  11. You could just raise the T.V. up to accomodate the center also.
  12. I agree with Youth that mounting high and angling down to the listening position is fine; mine is set up that way now at a height of 6.5'.
  13. It's all I had a chance to hook up last night, but will be listening to it through the Carver and the Onkyo 805 so the Behringer won't be part of the chain. I also agree with Rudy in regards to Behringer getting a bad rap in some cases as I've had no problems with any of it and when I run the guitar through it instead of directly into the amp I don't notice any significant changes in the sound coming out of the amp when there's no EQ or effects.
  14. I didn't imply that at all, in fact I suggested the RC-3 and can tell you from experience that it will not sound terrible at all.
  15. I would handle the speakers first, but knowing that at some point you will obtain everything on your list and more, it just comes down to what you want first. I think that great efficient speakers can be more beneficial with mid level equipment than better equipment running through mid level speakers. JMO
  16. I'm going to offer a little different point of view. I would agree that the RC7 is the best way to go but while I was searching for my matching center I had the opportunity to play with a lot of center combinations and still own an RC3. You can use an RC3 and stay in your budget and get very good results. If you go that route you will have to adjust the mains to work with the smaller center for HT but the 3 will do a nice job for now. I've also run 2 RB5, 2RB61's and 2RP3's(towers left and right of the screen slightly towed in) as centers with the 7's and when all the channels were adjusted, the results were more than acceptable and in some of the situations actually did a better job than the RC7. If you want the system put together right now with your budget I would go with the RC3 and then see what the future brings your way, but I wouldn't wait and not have a center. IMHO
  17. I was just playing around with the fan comments.[] and keep in mind that I haven't set this up in my HT at this point so I haven't listened to it with anything but a couple hours of music and after reading some other threads I was expecting a jet engine, but the fan really wasn't any problem at my normal listening levels. I'm going to give it a listen with the 7's and see how they like the QSC.
  18. I just received it yesterday and I plan on giving it a listen this evening so I will post as soon as I do. I finally got the QSC running to give it a listen so I thought I would post my initial impressions [][Y][8][][][][Y][], but I'm not sure how to express it. This was just a short lived throw together listening session but here was the chain of equipment; Sony S7700 into the mixing board Main outs XLR to 1/4's into the QSC and another set of main outs 1/4's to the Carver's with adapters. Monitor outs to 1 RSW 15 QSC to the Cornscala's (Dean's passive crossover's[Y]) I also ran this set up with 2 pair of RB 5's and the sub to easily A/B the QSC against the Carver's (Carver's were bridged) Here's what I observed; the QSC was quiet and even at low levels, the "infamous" fan noise, didn't factor into the equation at all and even if I wasn't considering remotely locating the amps, I wouldn't think about changing out the fans. I don't want to start a discussion about fan noise, as I'm sure that there are fans in pro equipment that can be objectionable in a quiet listening environment, but for those that hear the whispers of a moth's wings, prior to the moth taking flight, I would suggest turning it up just a little, or getting out of the path of the fan, as it might actually cause a rift in the time and space continuum and fly's farting would disrupt the humans that are trying to sleep.[] I set the QSC to roll off at 50, which is a little lower than I would normally set the Cornscala's with the 15's, but running the sub off of the monitor outs from the board allowed me to dial in the sub easily. When I ran the amps with a couple of sets of my RB5's all that I can say is that I'm really happy about the QSC purchase, but the Carver's(20 years old and bridged) didn't slack at all and I can't say that I would choose one set up over the other. This is one of those situations that requires this particular QSC to be listened to side by side with other pro amps in order to get a true assessment of how it stacks up; and I'm not in a position to do that now as it's the first pro that I've purchased. I can only repeat how [] I am with what I'm hearing.....................if it wasn't for that dam* fan. ROTFLMAO, To all, have a great night.
  19. The first thing I would do is pull them out of there and move them around and listen. I can't imagine having mine packed in tight to anything especially back in tight against walls. You have two large port tubes moving a lot of air out the rear when you are listening at upper levels. I know they're a PITA to move but they are sensitive to their position.
  20. What a beast! I can't wait to hear what you think of it.
  21. I just received it yesterday and I plan on giving it a listen this evening so I will post as soon as I do.
  22. Very! You are all giving me a lot of things to consider but some of the choices will be eliminated if I stay PC, which I'm probably going to do since everything I have is PC.If I run USB, Toslink and Firewire from the planed server location to the HT area, I would think I have my bases covered.
  23. I don't know how to quote from multiple posts so I'll try to cover most of the details in this post. I'm in the final stages of wiring on a complete gutting and remodeling on my home. I have to get all of the network, audio and HT wiring done so I can start hanging drywall which is why I'm trying to make these decisions now, knowing that I'm going to build a server that will handle all of my media in the near future.
  24. I totally agree with that. You need to get out there and listen to as many speakers as you can and decide what you like. I'm sure if you post where you're at, you will get some opportunities to do that. Do you have a dealer anywhere close to you that has a decent inventory that you could listen to? If you do and would go listen to the heritage line as well as the reference line, hopefully a set of La Scala's or something that has a horn loaded bass section, it's going to tell you a lot about which direction is going to be the right one for you.
  25. Thanks for the information! I'll start digging into the suggestions and see where the rabbit hole leads.
