  1. Here's another angle. I should be using more clamps, but we're hoping to move into a larger house and most of my shop stuff is in storage. That's why this work is being done in our living room. [:$] I'm getting this done quick before another house showing later this afternoon. Well that's the repair! I have to wait a couple hours for the glue to cure, then the clamps will come off. Components will go back in, then I can try it out.
  2. Be sure to protect all clamped surfaces so they do not scrape or dent. This is firm felt used in pianos. Doesn't distort much with the clamps. I have a lot of extra from rebuilds.
  3. Here's where the step by step kind of skips to the end. I got so excited while doing this I forgot to take some pictures of the gluing. Here is the motorboard glued and clamped using Gorilla Glue. I've built quite a few boxes, and like its expanding quality as it cures.
  4. Here's another. Again, putty or pocket knife would do fine for removal.
  5. Then it was removing the old glue. It's amber in color and very rubbery.
  6. Components removed. With a stuff putty knife, I broke the glue/seal on the intact part of the glue joint, all the way around the motorboard (on the inside of cabinet). Then slowly pulled the motorboard away from the cabinet.
  7. Hi there, I just bought the flagship of the KG series for my brother. When auditioning them in the seller's garage, one tower had a rattle when good bass was present. The motorboard (right side) had come loose from the cabinet. I strongly believe if there is a partial glue joint fail, better take the whole thing off and reglue. Here's the rattler himself. the thin yellow line shows where the seperation is. I could start to open the motorboard like a door, hinged on the left side.
  8. Very cool you can talk audio with your new neighbor. He's thinking the same thing.
  9. There are a lot of new bands (rock/punk/pop) that look like the Ramones, only ultra clean. Looks as if they bought their clothes yesterday. Makes me sick. They have the messed up hair, tighter fitting short jeans, chuck taylors - it's like they Googled "band member atire", then went on a shopping spree.
  10. Morrissey - Sounds like he'd rather be anywhere besides making music. And chicks dig it? There are some confused chicks out there. The Doors - Jim's ego kills any chance of me liking their stuff. It bleeds through it all. "Riders on the Storm" - he sounds like a monotone Elvis. Dave Matthews sounds like Kermit The Frog. I'll admit to liking a couple songs off their first release, Remember Two Things. Neil Young should compose the music and lyrics, and NOT SING. Same goes with Dylan. Polyphonic Jazz. Only way I know how to describe the kind of Jazz where all musicians are doing their own thing at the same time. While I'm at it, lots of radio stations (classic rock mostly) seem to believe each artist has done one song. Only example I can think of right now is Ozzy Osbourne....seems he only released Crazy Train. All I have for now. More to come. Excellent thread.
  11. Iron and Jtubbs present something you must decide for yourself. Do you want to go two-way or three-way? It's best to hear both in one place (with the same source material, receiver, etc.). See if there is a Hi-Fi store in your area that sells the Heritage and Reference lines. Or if you know someone who can demo for you, that may be better as there would be no bias (or comission). Let your ears decide. If you have the cash to throw around, I say get those CF-3s. Never heard them myself. Hopping from one speaker set to another is one way to get to audio nirvana. Sure it costs, but it's way fun too.
  12. Oh yes, forgot to say welcome to the Forum IndyJared! This is a great place to learn all sorts of info. Enjoy your 'new' Klipsch setup! Give it some time and others will chime in with their thoughts.
  13. Just a stab in the dark, but some AVR receviers have a "night" setting where they will keep the volume from spiking loud (gunfire for example). My Harman Kardon has that feature which can be toggled from "off", "half", to "full". In the "full" setting I can notice the volume dip to compensate, some movies are more exaggerated than others depending on how it was mixed. Play around in your menu options and see if there is something similar you can tweak. Hope this helps.
  14. One option is to contact Klipsch about purchasing a replacement. About a year ago I purchased an RF-3 woofer direct from Klipsch. I think it was around $65-70. They may still have some available.
  15. Did my part! The Klipsch natives are restless.
  16. Fortes. I owned RF-3s for eight years, then got curious and started buying Klipsch left and right. After getting Forte IIs in my house, I sold the RF-3s. Don't get me wrong, the 3s are a good speaker. It's just that 3 way of the Forte trumps them.
  17. I'm green when it comes to these. How are they used? Do they help in soundproofing the music/HT room? Meaning to protect neighboring rooms from the music or movie. And do you use them floor to ceiling? or to one's liking? 20 questions. GO!
  18. Thanks for sharing Cal. So it blends well with Forte and Forte II? I may look into that SC-1 Ebay post. Thanks for the heads up, wuzzzer. It truly never ends. We have found perpetual motion.
  19. Hah! I heard his voice while reading. Very funny that was.
  20. If that were me going back to get a different car, 100 mph! $10? Pinch yourself. Excellent find.

  22. Easy for me to say, but I think you should buy it. If you don't get it, and if you're like me, you'll be thinking about it wondering how it would've worked. If you have saved and can afford it now, go for it. You can always sell it and get 85-90% back ($600-$650).
  23. Very cool. My Sony S350 is similar with load time. Having that quick load toggled 'on' helps a lot. I'll eventually go the Oppo or Playstation route. Didn't know the benefit of having analog outs when I bought my Sony. Always more to learn and this Forum is where the knowledge is. Good idea updating the firmware, smokarz. That's something I never think of. Everyone's toilet will need firmware upgrades in the future!
  24. You may already know this, but go into your menu system and turn on "Quick Start". This uses power when the unit is turned off, BUT disc startup goes faster. Hope this helps.
