  1. This is straying from downloads a little, but I use Half.com a lot for buying cds. It's a tributary of Ebay, so your username and password can be used in both places. You can find most used cds for $2-5, then $3 for shipping. Back to MP3s. Their quality is determined by how they were encoded and at what bit rate. If you get the right set up, they can sound very good (relatively speaking). LAME is a good MP3 encoder: http://lame.sourceforge.net/about.php I have been ok with using the Windows Media Player for making MP3s, and using the Rio Karma 20 gb player: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/shop/_templates/item_main_Rio.asp?model=261 It's old and discontinued but wonderful. Plays lossless FLAC files if you're into that.
  2. Post this in the 'Garage Sale' section. Good price, though the description sounds like they've seen better days.
  3. That is crazy timing you compare speakers with heroin. I was talking to a friend yesterday on how I was thining of trying tube amplification and he said, "if you're going into tubes, there's another thing you might be interested in....heroin". If I get into tubes like I have Klipsch speakers, that's one bottomless money pit! with great sound. HAH!
  4. Richard P, Thanks for the repair info. Mounting screws are tight - still buzzing. The hunt is on......
  5. I hear ya, neo. It was a pricey decision. Had I been more patient, there would have been a better deal somewhere down the road (at least local). I was on the fence thinking for a few days. It was one of those obsessions - wasn't going to let another set go by. I like the look of oak and walnut, so that pushed me over the edge. La Scalas for $800, huh? Maybe those will be next up for listening.......it never ends does it? LOL!
  6. Here are a couple pair of KG 1.5s on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-KG-1-5_W0QQitemZ150397081561QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item23045d57d9 http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-KG-1-5-speakers_W0QQitemZ300378005891QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item45efeca183
  7. I'm with Bill H. and wuzzzer, excellent deal. You will be pleased with the upgrade.
  8. The one on top is the KG .5 and the bottom one is the KG 1.2 or 1.5. If you're patient, Ebay has these sizes for around $80-100. Get them locally and the price is even better. I have two pair of KG 1's and I really enjoy them.
  9. I also haven't heard the KSF's. My pair of KG 3.5s (8 inch woofer) are impressive for their size. I remember one forum member saying they sound great for such 'beany little things'. I would think the 4.5s would deliver the goods with their larger 10 inch woofs. I like what the KG line offers.
  10. Thanks wuzzzer. Sonic Nirvana: I just read your 'first play' review of your Emotiva Congrats to you! Wonderful when our anticipations are exceeded with new gear.
  11. Some may gasp at the price I paid, but I've watched many sets go on by. These looked so good and the seller had good feedback, I decided to go for it. Keep in mind shipping was included, and the Forte II's came with a KV-3 center channel also in oak oil. Purchased on Ebay, $700.
  12. The seller did a great job sealing and packing. Very pleased with their look, pillars of power. I'm still playing around with placement. Initially bass was ok, then I started walking around the room and there were pockets of low richness. Gotta find an optimum position. They are very revealing, in a good way. They also seem to not care when getting 40 watts/channel (NAD) or 200 watts/channel (Sunfire) - hard for me to notice a difference. With my RF3 II's there is more of a difference when wattage is increased. One thing I noticed while putzing around behind the Forte IIs, there is a slight buzzing (like a paper ruffling sound) when the passives get moving with loud playing. It seems to be the accordian-like paper in the surrounds of the passives. When I dampen them ever so slighlty with a finger, the buzz goes away. It's not noticable when you stand back and listen. Anyone else notice this with their Forte IIs? There is a lot more listening to do, but so far I really like these guys!
  13. It IS a good thing. It sounds weird, but something in me relaxes having made this purchase.
  14. A little cleaning and dusting needed. Consecutive serial numbers too. Good stuff!
  15. My receiver/amp selection is in my signature. I'll probably try all three (with and without the Sunfire) to see how they sound with the Forte IIs. I am hoping to purchase an HK 730 from dkalsi. Been wanting to try out older solid state HKs and Marantz (in the 22 series).
  16. I've been wanting a pair of these for some time now. Finally..... The only issues are a couple white dust spots on the right grille and an impacted dust cover on one of the passives. Those were in the Ebay pictures, not a result of shipping (yes they were shipped and I held my breath until arrival!). After unwrapping them, it's time to go to work [:@]. Listening WILL happen very soon. More pictures to come.
  17. I'm relatively new to the forum and the people here have helped me with every question asked. Rest assured, you'll get worthy responses. One of your tags was 'Dope from Hope'. This PDF may help if you don't have it already. And....I hope it's ok for me to post this. Welcome to the forum!
  18. Yes I thought it was a well done movie. Tense throughout. Michael Mann movies are good overall. He has a talent for making the bad guys almost more appealing than the protagonist. Another Michael Mann film, Heat, is a wonderful movie - highly recommended.
