  1. That's a great looking RCM and a you saved a BUNCH of money!! Thanks for posting it. I've seen a lot of people use a foot pedal on and off switch for the vacuum, so they can do it hands free. I thought that sounded like a great idea and just wanted to pass it on, if you haven't already considered it. Oh and that Garrard is Beautiful!! Dennie thanks for the tip, i think i will change to your recommendation...great idea!!
  2. Thanks to Harry "O" I was able to put together my homemade record cleaning machine. Total cost $36. Personally I think it works better than my friend's VPI and I saved just a few bucks. I haven't finished staining and sealing it yet but it works great!!! Vacuum is enclosed in box under TT and black button on left side of box turns the vacuum on and off... Platter driven by a bread maker motor so there's plenty of torque and it turns forward and backward for best cleaning.
  3. Ole' Skool for me...here's my completely original 1956 Garrard, completely refurbished and it sounds awesome...have you guys ever used musicstack.com to purchase vinyl?
  4. check out the Copper Stopper at http://www.audiotubes.com/damper.htm i had a slightly microphonic Amperex (not the current Pinched-Waist) 6922 that i paid good money for and was about to give up on it until Brent told me about these...they work!
  5. i love the amperex 6922 in my BB too...congrats! good ones are hard to find, all hail Thebes the Magnificent...the Holy Grail are the Amperex Pinched-Waist 6922,
  6. it doesn't matter what we think...what do you think? why do you ask? don't justify upgrades because of what others think...
  7. i started out my journey with tubes with a Jolida 502B, i was disappointed with its sound until i read that the weak link with this unit its passive preamp, i picked up a cheap tube preamp and it totally transformed the Jolida, i kept it for a year but finally traded it in to Craig on some VRDs. For a beginner I will say it was good to start with and I only paid a total of $500 for the 502B and preamp. Ask Craig if he's hot rodded the 502B I traded in...just a thought but either way whatever you get from Craig will be VERY reliable and sound smokin" Did you sell the pinched-waist Thebes the Magnificent?
  8. check out the needledoctor.com....great selection of carts and stylus not to mention everything else you;d need for your TT
  9. check out musicstack.com....you can find some great vinyl for some really good prices depending of on their rarity
  10. Try some Amperex Bugle Boys, they are a cross between Telefunken and Mullard. Sweet tone, almost holographic.
  11. I already own a Garrard 301 but was going to some neighborhood yard sales when i picked up this Garrard RC-98 c.1955 for $50. After a good cleaning and new cartridge I swear this diamond in the rough sounds better than my 301. I did a little research to find out the history behind this unit and found out Jackson Pollock owned one and loved to play his vinyl, especially loud when his wife was out of the house. Go figure?!
