How to calibrate properly? (I don't want to screw things up!)
Thaddeus Smith replied to Yawnny's topic in Home Theater
give both a shot and see what happens ..asking questions is perfectly alright, but you're allowed to figure some things out on your own as well. you're not going to break anything. -
I had the rw-12 for about 3 years ..loved it (probably should have kept it). i would highly recommend you get it. but there are also alternatives that may possibly be had for the same or less. give elemental designs a look through.

if you really want to spend some time learning and understanding, this thread (lengthy) is a good primer. Spend most of your attention on the links at the beginnning. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=795421 -
keep the hope up! it sucks not having a sub ..but at least it's not a main or center
-
well ..it changes it, not necessary improve it. i like to tinker ..so i tinkered a bunch with wire in my system and found bi-wiring to be a good fit.
-
the problem, coyotee is that many AVR's now support "bi-amping" through the use of speaker C terminals ..basically the hookups for multi-room speakers. the manufacturer calls it bi-amping, but it is nowhere near what you describe. i personally bi-wire using two different gauges of wire to the LF and HF, joined into a single connection at the amp.
-
That might just work, it will sure make me think about buying the right speakers the first time around. How long after giving her her jewelry do I upgrade my sub? sameday, wait a week or two? hehe ..it's the reason (jokingly) I buy used ..keeps my mea culpa costs down. timing depends on your relationship with your wife and a funds available. while i've made good on all of my post-speaker IOU's ..i've run out of steam on that tactic, and will have to start making purchases in parallel. your mileage will most certainly vary
-
and not dependent on your warranty status. That only affects how much you will need to pay out of pocket (if required to fix).
-
option c) identify the sub you want ...budget 125% more than it costs and buy her jewelry (or whatever makes her ooo and awww) at the same time. ya, it's bribery ..and ya, it works.
-
call klipsch support with your serial# and problem description. they'll troubleshoot and provide you with cost to fix (probably a flat rate ..seems to vary depending on model), set you up with a return authorization, etc etc. Pretty smooth process from my experience.
-
without bypassing the the internal crossover, you'll gain pretty much nothing through bi-amping (not to mention those tertiary channels are pretty wimpy). bi-wiring, however, has made a difference in my setup and may be worth a try. for others, it also does nothing. when testing this stuff, be sure to make the change and then get the least interested person in your house to come listen and give impressions ..those will be the most accurate and unbiased gauge for hearing if anything has improved/worsened.

How sensitive is actual placement of subs?
Thaddeus Smith replied to amusingisthedawn's topic in Home Theater
klipsch suggests corner loading their subs ..dolby says you shouldn't. from what i recall, you also shouldn't place a sub in the middle of a wall ..rather, it should be in one of the 1/3rd-ish points of the wall length. -
By doing so on a user forum makes you a troll. Contact the BBB or shoot an email to Fred..or anything other than bitching and whining here on a forum. "American" is not synonymous with "best in world" craftsmanship. I'm not quite sure why you insist on making that connection, but there are plenty of "good ol fashioned bern and bred one hunherd percent Amurican" companies with plenty of poor business practices, shoddy craftsmanship, poor quality control, and zero support for their customers. hammer on about the amp, but leave your misguided nationalism out of the equation ..it just doesn't matter for the sake of the argument.

What's your favorite cheap beer?
Thaddeus Smith replied to Yukon Jackass's topic in General Klipsch Info
given the guidelines ..bud light is my go-to when all i want to do is drink for drinking sake. my favorite all around beer is new castle ..my favorite american brews come from either samuel adams or new belgium ... or flying dog ..sierra nevada ...and then there is the home brew. brother in law, father in law, and myself all brew ..so there's always a variety of high gravity beers to enjoy:) -
What's your favorite cheap beer?
Thaddeus Smith replied to Yukon Jackass's topic in General Klipsch Info
what determines cheap? quality or price? ...stella artois is a very cheap beer in many parts of the world, though here in the states it's the douchebag drink of choice. i like it, but then again ...there are very few beers i've had that i didnt like (somewhere over the range of 300) -
can you grind my axe while you're at it? ..btw, Old man Ford's company has all sorts of american made quality control issues that result in headaches and safety issues. and they are exceedingly more likely to try and skirt responsibility for fixing the problem free of charge. Quality control issues are not a nation-specific problem. crawl back to your hole please...

you dont by chance have the ability to pick up a PS3 with those points, do you? I can't provide any personal experience with the three you listed ..but a PS3 is probably the most future proof blu-ray player.
-
the drive baskets probably broke during shipment due to weight and jostling ..causing them to explode on the cones. looks very similar to the rc-64 horror stories...
-
you need at least 800 watts per channel.
-
ditto on the rf-7's ..move your rf-3's to surround duty and then keep an eye out for a used rc-7 (avg. $400). You would have a very badass system and stick right within your budget.
-
since you're aware of, and concerned for, timbre matching the RC-3/RC-3ii would be your best bet. Spend a little bit of time searching around and you should be able to find one used for around $100. you may also try posting a WTB thread here and on craigslist to jog some people's selling mindset. I know you're interested new, but you can get a whole lot of bang for your buck if you lengthen your timeline and search out some very nice used gear.

could just be you ..i've been working with various support people at klipsch over the last couple of weeks and haven't ever had a hard time getting to a live body.
