  5. If anyone wants these K-horns, I'd be willing to go check them out and store them for future pick up...looks like a good deal
  6. Allan, Whereabouts in LA are you? I will be coming down there to see mom at the end of March, early April. She lives in Torrance. Always looking for things to do when I'm down there if you are not too far.
  7. Anybody know of a website/websites that have reviews of different brands of new and NOS tubes. Will soon be getting some new KT-88's for the Macs. Western Electric is re-issuing the GEC KT-88's in 2002, but claimed 2001 in 2000. Those sound interesting, but are sure to be $$$$$$$.
  8. Charles, It shouldn't hum at all....Could it be AC noise???....It didn't make any noise in the bigger room?....Way back when (before the redo at Audio Classics) it would hum when the refrig cycled on...Changed to a dedicated circuit and that solved it, but didn't get any hum since....Is it worse when turned up?....Do you have any sort of power conditioner?? If you can't solve it, call Ryan at Audio Classics and ask him wassup...tell him it's the one you got from me
  9. Hey Al...aren't those fuses under warranty???....
  10. Hey Tom... I notice that Bruce Edgar is coming to your gig....Have you heard his horn subwoofer?....it's awsome...he had it set up with his Titans and some tubes....tell him Fred says hello...I was supposed to see him at CES, but I had to cancel at the last minute....when exactly is he going to be there?...I'm going to LA soon and don't want to miss him when I'm there.....really struggling whether to sell my K-horns and Belle and go with his stuff....I've wanted K-horns since I was a kid and have had mine since 1980....like a member of the family....breaks your heart doesn't it?
  11. Bummer dude....How much were they?....What drivers do they have now?....Never heard of a dealer that wouldn't allow an upgrade in a specific time frame....I suppose they were "special orders" and therefore not subject to their exchange policy....Maybe if you called Klipsch, they could help you out....
  12. Anyone know anyone who had a friend that worked with this womans ex boyfriend who had a Mac sub?
  13. Don't recall anyone owning one of these in here. Opinions anyone???.....
  14. Sounds about right...How many pair are you ordering???
  15. Yes I have a basement....Run everything thru pipe insulation because of the furnace, ductwork etc...
  16. Tom, Thanks for the tip...I have passed this on to my guitar freek friends and they are ordering as we speak...Don't know what I would do with them however
  17. Jeesh...looks like some folks got carried up in the excitment of the auction...They look nice, but a little steep...plus shipping....
  18. JD, The lower height of the Belle in relation to the K-horns isn't noticable...The center channel is L-R mono and runs 6 db below the corners to "fill in" the center if you have a long enough wall to make it work....My wall is 20', which is probably borderline necessary, but it really makes a difference to me especially if I am not in the sweet spot....I assume the pup you are refering to is in front of the R speaker...plaster Basset....good dog...stay...thanks for the nice comments... JMON, I will dig out the camera again this weekend and post a pic of the back of the Belle....Nothing exciting however (except for ALK's)...just 2x4's on end wedged around the squaker to support the tv....I think you are right about the magnets....original drivers on the Belle were K-55M's which had an exposed magnet....I swapped Al K for a K-55V to match the K-horns....The Belle was bought 2 years later than the K-horns (1982)....Do the 1980 Belle's have different drivers than the 1982?...Anyone know??? Busa, Seem to work fine so far...didn't have to shield anything on my set up....The Mac amp is a 2105 and a MC75 for the center...I know it's 1975 technology, but sounds great to me....have auditioned several subs, but haven't found one that made any difference in the overall quality of the low end...EXCEPT..for Bruce Edger's base horn that he makes, but I don't have a wall for it...It's huge, but is effecient enough to match and keep up with the Klipsch...He says he might be able to install one in my attic....This unit sounds great and is "only" about $1200 unfinished as I recall, but the WAF hit would be significant if you were unable to hide it somewhere...Anyone else heard one of these...Tom??? Edster, The tv is a Sony 32" HS...it's HDTV ready, but need a decoder box and satellite dish to take full advantage I suspect...The folks at Direct TV claim the broadcasts will be 75% HDTV by this spring...I'll wait and see...Don't watch much television anyway...As far as the sound coming out below the TV...This is not a conventional HT set up, but a stereo with a mono center...I haven't yet gotten the HT bug, nor know much about it...Why does the traditional HT set up have the speak above the tv???...guess it doesn't sound weird to me as I never got used to a HT center...I'm not sure if my room is deep enough (15') to use rears if I ever got the bug....What do you think??? mdeneen, Funny you should mention the Mac 3500's....I had a friend in high school who's dad bought 4 of these for a small auditorium he had built in back of his 4 car garage....had several JBL speakers arranged in various configs....really loud...Led Zeppelin loud.....was thinking of buying one of the Billy Bags CD racks that hold 1000 per rack...It would fit on the wall where the small bookcase with the Cd's are now.....Would be good for a few years anyway....I kind of enjoy looking at the jewel cases and the inserts with the words, etc.....storage does become a problem though...I see that you live in Healdsburg....I lived in Eureka for many years, and would always stop in Healdsburg for beer at the Red Tail brewery on my way to the city....Still have music there?? Al, Still enjoying the networks....money well invested... This message has been edited by MacKlipsch on 01-12-2002 at 12:36 AM
  19. How can they sell them for $220 and ship these 100 lb beasts for free?...How long did it take you to get them, Tom?...Did you get the 8 ohm ones? This message has been edited by MacKlipsch on 01-11-2002 at 02:20 AM
  20. Monty, Thanks again for the kind words.....They do indeed sound sweet...They were "freshened up" quite a bit with the addition of Al's networks...I recommend them highly...
  21. Thanks for all the kind words....I'm glad I got the speakers 22 years ago....I couldn't afford them at today's prices.... No, the Belle doesn't cause any interference with the TV....I was wondering weather I would need to shield the magnet somehow, but no problems....Was also worried about the weight of the TV (185lbs), so I braced the squaker box with 2x4's on end....Not sure that it really needed it, but better overkill than a nice bow in the top of the speaker... The dogs are pretty sedate, but will occasionally sling a slober or two about...Basset slober makes a terrific wood polish...
  22. I agree with Big...Go with Heritage if you have the room.....and of course the $$$$$$$$
