  2. Yea, I know what you mean. More than likely there are gonna be snipers out there to out bit someone at the last second. You could just put in a proxy bid and a bit will be made over the last one in the next increment. i.e.-- If your willin gto pay, say, $500 for this thing and the current bid is $300 and lets say the bid increment is $10. Proxy Bid will bid $310 all the way up to $500 for you without you being there to enter a new bid. And it will only bid $10 (bid increment) higher than the last bid by someone else. The best part of that is that nobody else knows the maximum of you proxy bid. OR!! You can do like I did and open about 5 or 6 browsers on you desk-top and enter in a "one-step" higher bid on each one. Then just keep hitting the refresh button on one of the browsers to get an up to date number of the current bid. If you see a bid higher than yours and it's getting close to the end then go to the browser with the next higher bid and click and make your next bid from there! Cool huh? BTW,about that second example? THAT IS CALLED SNIPING!!! 3. If you want numbers to tell ya if you should buy it or not here are a couple things to lool at. The signal to noise ratio (or s/n) should be as high as possible. Personally I like most units at 100db or higher but then your talking some real money (measured in thousands). Next I would look at Totral Harmonic Distortion (THD) and it should be as low as possible. Again, I like mine to be about .05 or lower and naturally to price will reflect such numbers. 4. I will admit to cruising Woodward Ave. a couple of times, though pretty embarassing in an 86' Saab 900s.
  5. SS- This is great! Now I have someone to ask when she/we get out of kilter. She moved here in 85' from, get this, FLINT, MI.!! She did her undergrad at U of M and more at Mott Community College. Being a car guy you must live at the Ford Museum. Glad to here you snagged the Quartets. Did you come down hear to get'em or did they send them to you? 6. Whew!! Got off easy this time. She settled for dinner at Applebees and the renting of "A Bug's Life" in DVD.
  7. Gil, I'm not a lawyer either but I do work for alot of them. You may want to look at the Magnuson Moss Act of (I think) 1977 or so. This is only to bring up the point that manufacturers don't always HAVE to put warranty info in the packaging of their products. It may have some other useful tid bits to clarify things. They do, however, have to list the name and address of the manufacturer (I know, that's not a point right now). So it can be said that it has to be made available. Kinda like McDonalds is required to have a list of the nutritional values of their food. Sure, ask anyone there if they know where THAT is much less the acknowledgement of it's existance. I'm not bashing Klipsch for this but it does seem to have a lot of people confused. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 McIntosh MVP-841 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ H.H. 8. SS- Man, am I in the doghouse. I was reading your post last night and had to leave my desk for a moment. She came in and found my first post still on the screen. DOHH!! Now I'm getting this big harang about it being OUR house (I moved in with her). I guess this means another trip to Tiffany's downtown. It's really bad this time because I have to rely on her to get me to work until Mitsubishi comes up with a cam-angle sensor for my Talon. I've been listening to Larry Carlton for a number of years now, and through all that I still don't have alot of his work committed to memory. "Two Against Nature" has been played quite a bit 'round here. It's getting to be the test album just after a new piece of equipment comes in or a change has been made. I've got a couple Bob James (The Jeanie?) vinyls still but haven't heard anything recent. One CD I do have and that was virtually never played until four months ago was Joe Jackson's "Will Power". It's rather symphonic in nature and could be easily placed as the theme music for "The Mummy". Shame it's out of print (or burn). Last night's showing was the 1975 James Caan classic "Rollerball". Can't complain too much about that one, the girlfriend let me watch the first hour and a half with out interupting me six times at the end. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 McIntosh MVP-841 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ H.H. 9. To all you/us McIntosh fans out there. I just received my MVP-841 from Audio Classics. This thing is truley awsome. One of the first cd's played Larry Carlton's "Discovery" and the bass extention could produce instant spontanious fecal materials without hesitation. When I read the fequency (4Hz to 22KHz) that explained evrything. Then it was fed the "Hell Freezes Over" DVD but I couldn't take it eveen close to concert level. That Girlfriend Permission thing keeps gettin it the way. It's a real shame that it won't play audio cd's made at the computer. I do remember seeing some sort of Macrovision credit in the manual. I do remember reading somewherethat during WWII, Hitler used some sort of bass producing apparatus to make the "pesants" very nausious and incontinent. Now that I have totaly ruined any type of positive ratings I have accrued because of some of the subject matter in this post, as Monty Python would say, "You'll pass them now." ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 McIntosh MVP-841 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ H.H. 10. Didn't BGW or Raxxess make a fan that mounted on the top of the rack? Either sitting horizontal to force the air upward or mounted in the top two-unit spaces to ehaust air into the room? Maybe one more at the bottom to blow air in? Sorry, just a lot of stupid thoughts on too little sleep. Also, StudioTech ( http://www.studiotech.com/racks/ultrarack.html )makes their free standing rack doors with a metal (hole filled ) mesh that in front (sides too), maybe you could just buy the front door to one of these? They come in 48" and 60" heights. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD (McIntosh MVP-841 coming August 21, 2001) Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ H.H. 17. Keith, I didn't hear any difference when the cork was added. The pods feel like a heavily 'Armor-All'ed piece of rubber or soft vinyl and the oils they emit from that could damage the finish (leaving rings). In the manual they do say you can run these things either side up but since I was actually replacing the stock feet and due to the screw holes being closer to the bottom of the pod, I had to install them up-side down because the stock feet screws are not long enough. All in all they work pretty well. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD (but seeking a McIntosh MVP831!) 18. Thanks guys, Guess I should have said I've already ordered 'em when I made the first post. Just looking for some reassurance I suppose. So far they're working out fine. Bass has tightened up and the high is more articulate. It sounded pretty much the same when I was using the polyetheline water pipe insulation but after a while it got crushed enough to not being very mush good for anything. Right now the pods reside under the amp and the turntable but the pre-amp and the eq(?) won't be too far behind. In the instructions it says to use something between the pod and surface it sitting on because they tend to leave marks on the shelf' wood. A short to Target is all it took to get some all cork bar glass coasters. I'm still using that neanderthal Carver cd player but a McIntosh MVP831 may be in the works! Testing the new pods I used Donald Fagen's Karmakeriad(sp?) cd and quite frankly I didn't want the disc to end. The second last track "On The Dunes" was very relaxing and "Florida Room" was just as happy and bouncy as it should be. Did I mention this test was done without the girlfriend home and played rather loud? ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD (but seeking a McIntosh MVP831!) 21. FWIW the "What a maroon!" quote is derived from a college football team that was absolutley terrible. Kinda like when Bill Cosby describes playing for Temple. 24. Has anyone on here used Vibrapods for vibration dampening? My 'swift' idea of using water-pipe insulation is being crushed (pun intended). I'd like to use them on my amp and turntable. The McIntosh C33 was also an idea but I'd have to see the hight of them after their installed. The turntable has needed them for many years, the stock feet dried-up and sank about a half inch. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 Rotel RB-1080 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Ortofon VMS-30 mkII Cartridge Stanton 999SS Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD (but seeking a McIntosh MVP831!)
