  2. WOW, great Question... I assume they get great deals on Klipsch equipment, but would like to know what Klipsch speakers and amps they personally like, and why too.
  3. I would say if it is new... Go to an Authorised Dealer. Period. There is no reason IMO a few hundred dollars (or so) spent supporting upfront a dealer that has taken the position to carry the Klipsch line and even more important, anything that might go wrong with your equipment service wise.... is the right way to go. This keeps Klipsch in business, allows us an outlet for products that we can listen to and hear, and keeps the local Audio stores open and makes a little money to pay sales men/women to show and demo all this cool stuff. Most "Authorised Dealers" that carry most, of if not all the line, will make you a deal that is enough for you to feel you got a premium product at a fair price. Thats all what we want anyhow.. These fantastic Speakers at a price we feel is worthy of their cost. You do not get, for instance, a Mercedes ML500 SUV for 10k, You get the dealer, service, support, and someone to hold your hand so to speak if something goes wrong. Do you pay a premium for all this? Sure you do. Do you also get treated with respect and ultimately taken care of should something go wrong? Yes you do. That is why they are a leading luxury car company that people prize their auto transportation to come from. Otherwise, we would all drive say Yugo's (My appology, to anyone driving a Yugo as a "prized" posession..LOL) That being said, "USED" on the other hand is a whole new ballgame. Sites like EBAY, Yahoo, and other "Auction" sites allow the savy seller and buyer to occasionally get a fair bargain on some great sounding gear. It is a fear vs greed senario...Much like my business in the Stock Market on Wall Street. How much do I really want to pay VS how much is it really worth senario now and in the future with people on both sides wanting to get a "Deal"? If your looking on Ebay for instance, you can get a good education through this board and see what prices seem to be going for a specific series line. Most of the time it is within say $200-$300 depending on finish, condition, location, and presentation by the seller. I agree with Tblasing if your really serious looking used, ask the seller some good questions, require to see good pics before hand, and make sure he/she states that all components are working or which are not, and are stock before hand. (Some on this board are very good at spotting fakes and pointing them out to potetial buyers.) So buyer beware!! Thats my 2 cents. I have bought Klipsch both ways, from a dealer and bought used. Both great experiences!!
  4. Hello Steve and Becky. I live here in Indianapolis, Indiana and welcome you to Indy. This is a great city, and I am sure you will like it also. I wanted to say welcome, and when you get here and settled, I would love for Steve and yourself, my wife and I, to meet for dinner sometime. There are a lot of pretty good chains up around the Klipsch headquarters...as well as some really neat local specialty ethnic places not too far away in the tiny "tourist" (usually only on the weekends) town of Zionsville. So let us know would love to show you around. Fellow Klipsch fans, are always instant friends. LOL Roger AKA IndyKlipschFan
  5. WOW just realized....I am now a Crazy Poster...COOL!!! This message has been edited by IndyKlipschFan on 04-10-2002 at 09:25 AM
  6. Thanks. Yes, the amp seems to run cool. no sound difference in clarity whether if it is just the Cornwalls or the Cornwalls and the Heresy's too. (Well, in this case the Heresy's and down to the Cornwalls with a separate 12 gauge speaker wire.) Thanks for your comments, maybe I can get a picture up so you can see the setup soon. I just got a Sony digital camera 3.3 megapixel that records onto CD's. (Really cool) Now maybe we can get Bob G to shoot towards an open house sometime this spring/summer in Indianapolis, IN at Klipsch to take a tour. PLEASE, hint hint, we would all love to be able to hear the new improved Klipsch Heritage line up, see this new anechoic chamber here in Indianapolis, IN too. Cross your fingers!
  7. OK shorter version sorry.... Used in Stereo mode, I forget in my old age, what happens to the signal and should I be careful to watch anything in particular when (2) 8 ohm speakers are wired in on the same side? Below is the configuration, and the amp info. <<Heresey/Cornwall right Heresey/Cornwall left.>> (I have the signal currently going from the back of the amp to the Heresy then down to the Cornwall, which any time delay or loss of effeciency going to the Cornwall since it is more efficient SPL wise. IMO it sounds better than the Cornwall up to the Heresy on top.) FYI...Here are the specs on the Mackie M 800 amp. The M800 shares most of it's features with the other FR Series amps. Check out the features below. 400 + 400 watts @ 2 ohms stereo 275 + 275 watts @ 4 ohms stereo 140 + 140 watts @ 8 ohms stereo Ultra-low-noise/ low-distortion design Low distortion. On all fronts, the FR Series amplifiers rival snooty, creampuff audiophile amps. Total Harmonic Distortion spec (THD) for each member of the FR Series is 0.012% at 8 ohms 20 Hz-20 kHz.
  8. I want to know is it safe to run out of this amp to a pair of Heresey's then down to a pair of Cornwalls. I know it is a very clean sounding system for live aplications (OK, I admit it, I sing Karaoke through this setup... until later when I will be using this and other Heritage Speakers in a home theatre situation.) FYI <<Only used at home, under controlled situations, and NEVER taken as a system out of my house.>> They are never driven to really extreem levels. Most of the time, the amp is at or less than 1/4-1/2 way turned up. I bought the amp new to match the Mackie 1604 VLZ mixing board for live sound. I have a JVC Karaoke machine, and a Digital delay by Alesis that makes music and vocals so crisp and clear though the system..... it is a 10 on a 1-10 scale. The Amp specs are below. Used in Stereo mode, I forget in my old age, what happens to the signal and should I be careful to watch anything in particular when (2) 8 ohm speakers are wired in on the same side? <<Heresey/Cornwall right Heresey/Cornwall left.>> (I have the signal currently going from the back of the amp to the Heresy then down to the Cornwall, which any time delay or loss of effeciency going to the Cornwall since it is more efficient SPL wise. So far, this setup is clean, clear, loud, and just incredible. It is as if the band is right in front of me as I am singing all my favorite songs... For those that have gotten through this post FYI, I sing professionally at weddings and National Anthems for Major Sporting events like the Indianapolis Indians AAA baseball, Ice Hockey, Pacers, (Hopefully the Colts someday... very "political") The IHSAA Indiana HS Basketball luncheon, and many Corporate events. And about once a month, I like to go out with friends and sing Karaoke. I got fed up with inferior sounding set ups, and at 40 yrs old said to myself, "What the heck, I will just invest in a system at home." While I understand Karaoke to most people is offensive, (Drunk off key people add nothing to this image..LOL.) Keep in mind it is really 90% about the "average Joe" that wants his spotlight on the stage and share a song with people. 9% should quit and go home, either by sounding horrible or taking themselves way too seriously. And 1%, on the right night... with the right instrumental...Singing in the right key.... when the stars and planets align.....LOL. The singer seems to take it to the level of the origional performer, or yes, sometimes even better. Thats when it is fun, if your lucky enough. Anyways, thanks for reading the post. Roger
  9. OK unfinished....looks like the HT will be 25x15. With the 15 being where the screen is etc. I would welcome any suggestions for the room speaker wise, or anything else you might suggest. I feel like a lot of you on here are my friends anyhow, we all share this hobby that sometimes takes over our thoughts for days trying to figure things out. The amp is already bought, the Denon 3802. Either staying with current Heritage lineup...I have a great start with 1 pair of K Horns, Cornwalls and Heresy speakers too. ( maybe just 1 Heresy to make the center channel...or keep the K horns for another room so need three Heresy's and a sub too, maybe.) Again this is why I am looking/asking for suggestions... I have had an opportunity to hear the new RF7 line up too..And I must say, I was very impressed. So maybe I would also go that direction. (That way everything is a exact match for the HT experience?) We are several months away from anything definite, so I look to your helpful suggestions on here, and in advance say, "Thanks". I can't wait to hear the "New" and "Improved" Heritage lineup and do a comparison to the RF7's. WOOO HOOOO
  10. ok, so this is a loaded question...lowest on the Cornwalls..400 Probably 300 on the Hereseys... Thats being said..I think a more realistic price would be 600 to 1200 on the Cornwalls on Ebay...again depending on condition and what the finish is too. Maybe 400-600 on the Heresey's. I think most will agree with me on here that is what has been the prices for at least the last year on various boards. If you are not sure post the serial numbers..(Burnt into the back of the cabinets usually above the access door.) This "Code" will be explained on year made etc to the line..and what is the wood..usually on the sticker on the back..EG Cornwall/ Heresy finish.. Like anything in life, people that own anything of value prize thier "possessions" and think they are worth more. People looking, want a good price below what they think is "comfortable" to make them go out and purchase what looks like a great deal. Somewhere in the middle...Is what the true value is. Thats why we look at EBAY daily looking for deals..LOL> I hope this helps....
  11. I agree, I am finally looking to build a house have a more dedicated place for a HT set up. I would love to know when, and what lines will be offered for the Heritage line up, so I can better budget everything in advance. Personally, I am VERY excited to hear my investment in what I already own in the Klipsch Heritage line will be back again. Thanks Klipsch for bringing it all back!!!!!!
  12. Does anyone have any drawings of your HT? We might be building a house this summer, and I wanted to dream a little and look into what all of you have done one here. This would be a dedicated HT room too. Any drawings, pics, and or suggestions appreciated. THANKS
  13. Ok, Bought her "Time after Time" CD too...Again, think the perfect recording of a woman in a great jazz cub and your 4th row center... It really doesn't get better than this.. She really is incredible. Look here for more info... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000006AKD/qid%3D1014451832/sr%3D8-1/ref%3Dsr%5F8%5F67%5F1/103-2280892-4087044
  14. Sorry I had to re post...BUT this is exciting!!!! JimG Crazy Poster Posts: 117 From: Indianapolis, IN, USA Registered: Dec 2000 posted 03-12-2002 06:18 PM In response to jazman, Heritage products will be back very soon. The Klipschorn, LaScala and Belle are finished and targeted for mid-April production. I really can't divulge any more details than that right now. Keep an eye on our web site as details will be posted in the April version of the site. Jim Wooo hooooo I feel like the Agnostic, insomniac, dyslexic...Now I do not have to lay awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.. hehehehehehehe Woof!!!
  15. Mobile you said... ps- The above two options both sound better than the Technics 1200 MkII series which used direct drive, a nono sonics wise as the motor is connected to the spindle which travels into platter, vinyl, and stylus, on to speakers... Belt drive has better sound. KH ================================================== Possibly.....But can you "scratch" turn on a dime... backspace, as well as do other DJ tricks.... using the turntables you suggested? I doubt it.. hahahahahahahahahaha Just Kidding!!!!!! Wrong application I am sure. Apples to Oranges.
  16. wow...could be a killer system. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1338207664
  17. OK, is the (world) so Naive.....How is that? I just think most people do not know the music business and how things are re done all the time. A musician may have just had a bad day.. Or not up to the chops necessary to do something on a particular song. Country artist borrow eachothers tallents all the time. I always look back to the Beatles as the standard. Without the terrific producer keeping it simple when it was raw and simple, and adding layers when necessary too. Their sound, a lot of the times, could not be doubled live also. Thanks Boa for the correction.. I didn't mean it directed to him all alone to bear...
  18. Rsponse to JHawk92 and the posts... As far as Milli Vanilli.. why don't we give the Grammy's to the musicians that did sing...I have always felt the fact that it was the song of the year give it to them. ( This is a tragedy IMO) Besides, do we get mad that say the national anthem at the superbowl is taped too?? It is.. Do we look at an actor who portrays someone else in a movie and say THAT is not real...come on. It's Entertainment!! Today's groups like Destiny's Child..change members, get newer ones...only to give the newer ones the Grammy's... go figure..... Also are you so naive that many of the older groups you listened to did not have studio musicians come in and "clean up" what was laid down on tape. Or add to it. You said, "Today, the formula is take 5-7 "boys," teach them how to "dance" and lip-synch and then market them to the world. Where is the talent in this? In fact, why do we call them "boy bands" when all they do is sing? Last time I looked up the word "band," it usually meant that the members played an INSTRUMENT!" I know this is an impossible ? ...but if you had gone to a say a Backstreet Boys concert..( worst example using your criteria) you would have seen that on a couple of songs..they do, in fact, play thier instruments too. I take my younger Neices and Nephews to these events... Don't assume they do not. Lip-Synching is just a by product of the way the shows are too. (Usually 4-6 "warm up acts" too, per concert) As far as thier "real" tallent...singing wise... Go to any Karaoke bar on any given night. Go to any bar band trying to cover the tunes.....No one comes CLOSE to sounding exactly like the origional. Also include dancing and performing, what takes many many hours of choreography, weeks of learning... Like I said, more to it than most people think. While you do have a point that it is also about dancing as a group.. This is just the current trend revisited of a formula that seems to work. I think the Osmonds/ Jackson five started this in the late 60's/ 70's as far as teen POP groups....LOL.. Look at Elvis and his swinging hips. Heck even "The Beatles" swinging hair and a bow after every song. The footwork of Motown greats. Don't be naive.. James brown made a career over crazy feet.//LOL Nirvana didnt just stand there as well. ( BTW the song / video "Smells like Teen Spirit" according to Curt, was his worst nightmare of what he didn't want to portray the band as... He hated it. I venture to say without it, we never would have heard of Nirvana on MTV) Not attacking you JHawk92 personally...... Just like others in a open discussion, both sides need to come out whether we like the type of music or not. My 2 cents..
  19. Commercial sound in resturaunts......OK I stand corrected... Sorry... I think you knew what I meant though...No live bands EVER to my knowledge use BOSE for live sound... I stand semi corrected.....
  20. Pop is more alive today than ever. Every child listens to music his parents do not like, otherwise what is the point. Todays acts are not only better, they are also more into different areas other than singing and playing. The numbers themselves, PROVE that pop music is king, whether we (Older or Younger than 12-24) like it or not. The bubble gum, top 40, teen craze, whatever people want to classify "it" is, is alive selling Cd's, Dvd's, Movies, concerts, memorabelia, magazines, etc., etc. I am afraid as by product of the computer generation though this generation your 15 min of fame is about 2 min, if that, too. But, today's pop is also soul, funk, rnb, ska, reggae, white punk, new wave, rap, or yes even country. Truth is, it doesn't matter what the title is, if kids like it and as the preverbial Dick Clark kids on American Bandstand would say, "You can dance to it.. or it moves you" Its a hit. I say get over it whether it is alive or dead. We had 31 thousand cd's put out last year, that is a new record for the music Industry. (Copied from the Wall Street Journal article here...Tues Feb 26th, 2002, "Behind the music", By Jennifer Ordonez) "Music Companies say U.S.major label releases often don't turn a profit until they have sold about 500,000 copies. The music industry, like the movie business, relies on relatively few hits to pay its large number of misses. Of the 6,455 new albums (CD's) distributed by the 5 major music companies in 2001: 60 sold more than 1 million or more copies 52 sold 500,000 to 999,000 95 sold 250,000 499,000 208 sold 100,000 leaving 6,040 cd's that didn't even sell over 100,000 copies!!! When you consider it takes in todays dollars 2.2 million to get a person to become a big pop star and there is no guarantee, you see the problem with a lot of misses by record execs.") End of Wall Street Journal Story... Back to my thoughts... I would also suggest to all you baby boomers that people or groups like Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, were all pre packaged goods, now at an older age you can see it too. Just today, we get all the background info on music in a simple click....on our computers and it is over. (We make up our mind what has been pre packaged for us from there.) The only thing different today from the past, that I can say is really different, is Bands/ Artists do not necessarily have to "prove" themselves out on the road. And that is a shame too. A good cover shot.. Lots of Hype..( read $$$), a great video... may get them success. And sometimes this is on non road tested tallent that ends up failing badly in front of people. I am sure a lot of you will respond to this post/ topic. I can, and will I am sure if your intersted, have more to say about this too. I was under a "development" deal with a record company as a singer in the 80's and early 90's, so I know what I am talking about too. Feel free to ask me any questions you ever wanted to ask someone in this business, and I will try and give you my inside scoop about it too.
  21. Michael Hedges on a big ole pair of K Horns.... ooo la la Crank em up and enjoy!!
  22. nothing like a k horn cranked up to Michael Hedges...
  23. How much??? And btw, your gonna get a lot of replies.... The serial numbers will satisfy a lot of people on here. They are located on the back. These will tell us exactly what yr they were made style etc etc. Trust me this for some is really impotant and are they consecutive too. Be prepared. LOL
  24. look below This message has been edited by IndyKlipschFan on 02-28-2002 at 02:23 PM
  25. Funny you mention 901's. I was in a record shop in Broad Ripple here in Indianapolis. It is a huge store. 20 ft ceilings, and a big rectangle. They had I think 4 901's and about 4'-5' from the ceiling down firing against the walls in the corners like they should. Again a huge store...up loud...stereo imaging was cool.... Ok it sounded great..I admit it. I couldn't find the sub but I am sure it was somewhere.(Not pounding but adiquate too.) Possibly this is the only setup they ever sounded this good, but I know they also did the Orlando Magic BBall stadium and at one time that was supposed to be the rockinist NBA house system in the USA. Funny, I never have heard or have seen BOSE do anything in pro sound.. We do not see BOSE in movie theatres...or in concert halls for live sound. hmm wonder why???? I also have been told on many occasions those rooms you demo Bose have been EQ'd, Dampend...and set up specifically for Bose. And why wouldn't they, too, do something to show the strengths of their line. All I can say is, that even at 40 yrs old..a K horn with a great artist coming over the speakers in a good room at moderate or above SPL's( Not killing but you get the point) ...Is about as close to an "ear orgasm" that one can have. Nothing comes close to Klipsch!!!!
