  1. Why does anyone here think PWK got to be where he is??? He had a valid feeling and he presumed it. Simple enough. I have heard it in HornLoupspeakers. It ain't expensive. It just takes a little thinking outside the box. And those of us who do it really don't care if no one else here follows, but it sure is interesting when you don't. Tubes Rule.
  2. Because it is there???? It can be better to others of Us!!! Just like there are many versions of any of a number of loudspeakers. Take Electrostatics. No one in there right mind says that Magepan is the absolute leader in that genre. Why do you think that Klipsch has the 'corner' on Horn Speakers??? Avantangegarde has definitely done better..........Sit in and wish you were the absolute......Do what ever you ABSPOLUTIONISTS like, buy why. That would be my question??? There is more than one group on your 'all mighty forum' that is advancing the concept of improving the Hornspeaker Concept. Look around.. I could care less if you get it, but it is really fun to drop in and see what a mockery you make of good audio. Why can't you guys just get along with the bunch of us???
  3. What I meant to say was this, plain and simply, TUBES are it....straight up....it took me awhile to adjust....but it is it, with HORNS, I now realize. I now get the concept of bloow and lush. I hate the metallic taste left in my mouth... I just bougth my QuickSilver Full Preamp. I am soon to buy my Quicksilver Horn Mono Amps, to soften to make horns do it detailed and delicious. }
  4. Hi guys, and gals. Why are we talking about live??? With all due repects, we are talking about home acoustics. Are we not???? I am finding out rapidly that the magic for horn loaded speaker loaded horns, doesn't it not???? If not, then why. Thanks..........
  5. Hi. The fatigue you are experiencing is from the harsh tweeter and midrange. Purchase Bob Crites drop in tweeter and a Fastrac drop in mid horn. It isn't free but it will save your nerves.
  6. Just a basic question as I am new to upgrades. Is the round tractrix better superior to the rectangular that has been used forever, and before with many other exponential and types of horns(see wikipedia horn loaded speakers)? I am curious about how to upgrade my soon to be reburished LaScalas and I am willing to throw the tophat portion away as I have cut it off and solidified the bassbin to cut the resonance factor. Any suggestions? Much appreciated. a
  7. Merry Christmas to all, no matter what that means to you. Yep, I just got my first subwoofer in 20 years, very thankfully from my girlfriend. Thanks all, and enjoy all the lights that illumintate the darness this time of the year.
  8. This is creepy. You would dare think outside of the box Cutthroat by thinking of modifying a Klipsch design!!! Blaspheme!!!
  9. Also, if you keep buying receivers you will just keep getting receivers. As always you are buying tradeoffs. If you love music, then step into the audiophile world and buy less compromise.
  10. Now, the above post is so spot on and well presented. Music Hall is a wonderful product with a ton of value for the buck. Also, go on Ebay and check out all the Bryston 3b and 4b. They are pheomenally cheap and they have that 20 year warranty that always transfers when sold.
  11. Do you really believe everything in print? No wonder we have Obama in the White House.
  12. BrOO214, your price is way to high, especially if they need refinishing. You probably can't count on a receiver bringing much money. Your LaScalas would probably go for $600.
  13. Great News!! I just sold the Denon for $600. Wow, a 200% return. Well, off to find others to exploit.
  14. Hi all. I just wanted to share with everyone what a killer deal I just made. I bought a Denon AVR-3600 for $200 dollars. I bought it from a forum member and he needed some cash as he had just lost his house. I looked up the bluebook for this particular piece of audio nirvana and I couldn't believe I had really got this raving deal. I mean, what was he thinking??? I sure am glad I found this guy first. It operates suberbly and doesn't have a scratch on it. I am just blessed, someone is looking out for me.
  15. My my, Al, you certainly are an overly sensitive person aren't you.
  16. If you would like a much better chance of selling your audio stuff, try listing the the Garage Sale post site.
  17. How about a Bryston 14bsst. Most would think I am crazy to have 400 watts per channel for LaScalas, but this amp handles transients incredibly well, and throws a very palpable soundstage.
  18. It truly doesn't seem like Christmas until I see Charlie Brown's special. I have been watching that since it came out when I was 7. And Guaraldi is so emblazened in my mind that I associate it with Christmas as much as all the songs written specifically for Christmas.
  19. As always, for as close as you can get to stock, go to Bob Crites. He will solve your problems immediately.
  20. Well, ya'll, digital is where it is at. You order audiophiles haven't realized what digital can do. It is fantastic. CDs and a Marantz SA-11S2 are wonderful. I tried vinyl now being sold to my generation, and it doesn't have anything on digital. Why would you, or anyone, settle for a sound ceiling of 15 Khz? All this talk of older people, those over 45, not having good comprehension of a pile of you know what. Once again the media is selling and too many people are buying.
  21. Happy Thanksgiving to all. And, thank you to all of the regulars who have contributed to the knowledge base About the LaScala upgrade modifications. I have a pair of 82 LaScalas on their way on which I can't wait to hear how well the bass reflex mod works. Thanks again, Dale
  22. Putting down a layer of thin(1/4") MDF or patching with a high quality wood supplement as Greg suggests and then following his excellent instructions in reveneering. He documents his experiences so well, it is just so honest, how can you go wrong. Unless, you have him do it for you, As he is buidling my heavily modified LaScalas.
  23. Of course it is nice. He is designing and going to build my GR4s, or whatever # they are dignated. Greg is a fantastic person to work with.
