  1. Yeah, I hear ya. I'm a lifelong bachelor myself. Can't imagine too many ladies that would like what I have done to my living room. [] I actually have the 2" BMS driver, but I know the Jub guys are loving the TAD driver. Not sure if any of them have heard or tried the BMS 4592 with the K402. Would like to know how this driver stacks up. I know its a heck of a lot cheaper. Mike
  2. W.C., Thanks for the kind words. Greg does fabulous work and is very dedicated to his craft, and that definitely shows. I can certainly understand your excitement, and am well aware of what a very good 2" driver mated to a well thought out mid range horn can do for a big ol' horn bass bin. I'm very jealous of your rig, but am very happy with mine as well. My Khorns sound as good as any speaker I have heard to this point, but I certainly know there is a lot better out there. I heard 6Foot8's 3-wayJubs a few years ago, but I would really like to hear a nice 2 way pair (especially with the TADs). Maybe I'll get the chance to hear yours one day. [] Merry Christmas by the way. I hope things are well for you and yours. Mike
  3. Thanks W.C.! The Heresy's are veneered with a Japanese Tineo to match the Khorns up front. Both were done by the amazing Greg Roberts. I couldn't be happier for you with your new purchase. I so badly wanted them myself but just couldn't pull it off. I'm glad someone on the Forum got them. Mike
  4. Just now reading this thread and wanted to also express my gratitude for your service to this country. Your father certainly raised you right, and the world is a better place for it. Steve, welcome to the Forum and I hope we see you around. Mike
  5. Nice Jim! I had a G-8000 during my Air Force years in Germany from '78 - '82, and loved it for 2-ch listening. Here is a shot of my back wall with the Heresy surrounds showing off my new movie poster acoustic panels. Mike
  6. I use GE 6550's in my VRD's, and they have no problem generating deep bass with my modded Khorns. The VRD's generate 60 wpc in Ultralinear mode and 30 wpc in Triode mode. Mike
  7. Another great BD is Toto's Falling In Between Live. Most of the music is off that album with about 6 or 7 popular tracks you are familiar with. The musicianship on this BD is second to none, and the audio is as good as Dave and Tim's BD imho. This is my reference BD. Mike
  8. I've got a Anthem D2 (pre-pro) and a Oppo BDP-83SE (which also has some good dacs on the 6-ch analog outputs), and I'm still not sure which I prefer handling the digital to analog conversion. They both sound really good. Mike
  9. I have owned Khorns, La Scala's, Cornwalls and Heresy's, and all of them have their own signature sound, but as for the mids the Khorns are kings. They share the same horn and driver as the La Scala, but they are a more balanced speaker with a larger soundstage, and the midrange just sounds less effortless. I loved them all, but the Khorns are my favorite... by far. They love tubes! Mike
  10. Yep, I've never heard a better pair than mine either. Does Cigarbum's have Greg's V-Tracs/BMS 2" driver? Just curious, since thats what's in mine. Mike
  11. Did someone forget to take their meds last night? I have tried a couple of MAC amps with my old system (La Scala's) and my VRD's buried them. I have also heard a bottlehead 2A3 and Korneff 45 (very sweet amp) in my system, and again much preferred the VRD's. Ymmv.... Mike
  12. I had a Jeff Korneff 45 that I sold a couple of years ago. It just didn't have enough oomph for me, but it sounded marvelous. Jeff is one of the premier amp builders in the country and you can't go wrong with one of his amps. Mike
  13. I have about 20 of each. There is not a single SACD that sounds better than my worse sounding DVD-A. DVD-A buries the SACD format. At least to my ears... Mike Maybe you have not listened to the DSOTM SACD. I find the two formats indistinguishable and would attribute the apparent superiority of any disc to the strength of its mastering, or mixing in the case of surround tracks. I have it and although a very good recording, not even in the same league with the Gaucho DVD-A imho. Mike

  15. Thanks Kevin. I don't post anywhere near as much as I used to, but I still enjoy reading the Forum as much as time permits. Mike
  16. And for my 5,000th post... The DVD-A version of Gaucho is simply stunning! I would say its the best sounding DVD-A that I own... Mike
  17. I have that DVD-A and it's not even in my top 5 for the DVD-A's that I own. You might want to consider the 45 rpm Reprise release, as I feel it gives the DVD-A a run for the money. It's more than the DVD-A but won't break the bank. http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/73243/Fleetwood_Mac-Rumours-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record Mike
  18. I like the carbon fiber with banana plugs. Can you make me some 12 ga wires for some Heresy's (12') and a Tuba HT Sub (8')? Please pm me with the price and I will provide shipping info. Thanks, Mike
  19. Yep! I had 2 duals (CS-721, CS-5000) before the Thorens. Mike
  20. Larry hit the nail on the head in regards to the TT setup. The new vinyl releases are also using more virgin vinyl, and are much, much quieter. I very rarely hear clicks and pops now. Dave, were you thinking of the SAE 5000 Noise Reduction Unit? I bought one in 1978 along with an original DBX 3bx, andstill have both today even though I don't use either of them. Mike
  21. Like others I too much prefer vinyl over cd, but maybe it does have something to do with the engineering vs the medium. I have a lot of vinyl that I bought new in the late 70's (mostly classic rock from the 60's and 70's) while stationed in Germany, and some of it sounds like crap too. However, the German and Belgium pressings sound pretty good, as does a number of the American pressings if they were 1st pressings, which a lot of mine are. Over the last few years, however, I have accumulated nothing but audiophile pressings (mfsl, nautilus, half-speed masters, direct-to-disc, classic records, analogue productions, music matters, etc), and most of this stuff sounds head and shoulders better than any cd's I own. Most of these are new re-issues from the master tapes on 180 gm or heavier virgin vinyl, This is not the cheap, flimsy vinyl your parents were spinning a generation or two ago. Most of it is very quiet too. There is no doubt I also prefer the warmer sound of vinyl, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in some of the other attributes I care so much about (clarity, detail, separation of instruments, soundstage, etc.). Vinyl just sucks me in and forces me to sit down and listen. It just feels right to me. Mike
