  1. There is a single KG 5.2 horn (with motor) on ebay right now in need of a new diaphragm they want $35.00 for it that would work well keeping most all the music on the horn and the price is right. Best regards Moray James.
  2. Thanks for sharing your experience. God bless PVA adhesive, white glue is probably the most used adhesive on the planet with so many applications from book binding to wood work to admix in concrete. The uses go on and on.
  3. Polarflux: the difference between the two inductors for the tweeters is substantial. Simple way to check this out is to replace the stock tweeter inductor and that will give you your answer. Good for you to tackle an upgrade job please let everyone know how this works out for you.. Best regards Moray james.
  4. Have a look at this one, I could have sworn this was red on black when I looked at it late last night but perhaps the color was off for some reasom. Nice badge worth having for the collection. best regards Moray James. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Speaker-Logo-Badge-Emblem-Single-/230583266576?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item35afd56d10
  5. Hello: my very first high end TT was a 1229 Dual and I loved it. If memory serves me I think the 1229 arm can be adjusted for VTA but I would have to check and please don't trust my memory as it was a very long time and many TT's ago. You can find all the information you will ever need to know about practically any TT over at the Vinyl Engine dot com. They have a full library of manuals and lots of true experts. You can also check out The analog Dept dot com fo more on Dua. Good luck and enjoy your deck.Best regards Moray James.
  6. at a glance I would guess the head of the nail is1/8 of an inch. good luck finding the dimensions as I know you would wantto make a perfect match. there is a nice black badge with red trim on Ebay right now metal I think only one. never seen one before check it out. Best regards a satisfied customer. Moray James.
  7. not sure what your total budget is but thought I would suggest the Audiospace. My local dealer has had these for a good number of years not issues built like tanks fit and finish are excellent. This KT amp is a very involving amp and sounds stuning sells for low 3K and you could not replicate it for what they are sellin it for a serious deal. Perhaps check out your options, I know it's not an old great but it is a young one with no shortage of serious iron.
  8. If you want to use silicon take the dust cap off and clean off the old adhesive. Prep the surfaces with 220 sand paper. Test the silicon on the inside of the dust cap with just a small blob let it cure a few days and see if you can pull it off. You could also contact Loctite and ask for a recommendation as they supply to a lot of major speaker makeres. Good news and good luck, Best regards Moray James.
  9. just saw these on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Klipsch-KLF-10-Woofers-K-1056-K-Maybe-Fit-Other-KLF-/110646413735?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item19c30a49a7
  10. can't answer about recone job not heard of anyone who advertises genuine parts but sure they could be reconed but to what? Suppose you could get close but kind of messes with your resale value. Take a good look and see if the tinsel leads are perhapps wacking the cone under hard drive you might be able to see if there are any marks on the cone or spider. If so a small blob of silicon at each end of the lead might help keep the lead from slapping. got my son an Eminence Comonwealth 12 which is a knock off of the D140 about 26 pounds of loud. fortunately he only has a Pete Traynor guitat mate with a pair of 6BQ5's maybe 15 watts so no paint peeling in the house. I hope flipping the driver helps but I won't hold my breath. good luck looking at the driver. Best regards Moray James.
  11. Pull the offending driver and check it out for anything loose that should not be, spider, suspension and dust cap for any lifting at the glued seam. Check the wires that feed the driver to make sure they are nor vibrating on the basket. If everything looks good then flip the driver (you should flip all four) 180 degrees and see if the buzz goes away. The suspension can sag over a long time and if this one was never too well aligned from the start a little sag could cause the buzz. Worth trying to see if it saves the day. Keep your eyes open on ebay the drivers sometines come up. If you had someone who can check the driver for T/S data you can see what is available on the markst to drop in as a replacement but if you go that route change all four to match. Check with Klipsch they might have one in stock it's free to ask. Good luck best regards Moray James.
  12. not sure if you are meaning Janszen electrostatic speakers but if you are here is their web site. Regards Moray James. http://www.janszenloudspeaker.com/
  13. Here is a pair of Chorus ll for $325.00 the pair. Have a look pretty good price. Pack each set of speaker guts into a separate box and they will go Parcel Post to Pakistan. Best regards Moray James. http://sarasota.craigslist.org/ele/2205171275.html
  14. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/55970/541601.aspx That should get you going. Best regards Moray James.
  15. It gets even better. A Quarter uses the same mid and tweeter horn as the Forte ll the only difference is that a Quartet uses a single 10 " woofer and the Forte ll uses a single 12 " woofer/ The cost of a Quartet is generally much lower. For example there are a pair of Quartet; in Florida for sale at $275.00 the pair. The parts of a Quartet in a cardboard box weigh in at 37.5 lbs the pair and they will pack into about 1.5 cubic feet of space. Small and light enough to ship to where you are by Parcel post my guess $100.00 or less for shipping. The original owner can sell the empty cabinets with grills to someone who wants to upgrade their Heresy speakers for $50.00 each so everybody wins. You can build a set of cabinets 13" x 12.5" x 39" and you have the drivers at the exact right height. Estimate cost of the cabinets where you are $40.00 each or less. That's a good deal and it's affordable to do.Over time you can upgrade to the Titanium compression driver diaphragms and you then have a brand new set of speakers for a very reasonable cost. Just something to think about. Best regards Moray James.
  16. Hey Buddy: have you considered buying a pair of Forte ll here and having just the drivers and networks shipped to you in a solid well packed cardboard box? Build up a solid set of cabinets where you are. Driver weight for a set of Forte ll would be around 45 lbs total in the box. If you really want this make it happen. Works for me. Best regards Moray James.
  17. The 6v6 is one of the few audio specific tubes out there and yes not a lot of power in SE mode but very sweet, actually in pentode they sound very good too with a lot more jam. The 6AQ5 is like the mini version of a 6V6 (forget the number of pins) heard it once in an amp and I got the impression the smaller size was less microphonic I was very impressed with the sound. The 6BQ5 (EL84) is a nice tube also lots around. I built a SE 6V6 in triode with small walnut size OT from a consel radio only about 3/4 of a watt at best was just to see what they would sound like. I was really surprised to hear just how much level was possible with less than a watt and I was not using speakers any more than 90 db efficient at the time. That was with junker transformers. Good iron would have made a world of difference. The 2A3 is a really solid well balanced tube got pretty much everything bass mid top space detail sweet controlled sounding tube. Well worth an audition. The Serious Stereo really were special but very expensive 10 -12 K range for a pair. Made a lot of jaws drop that I can confirm. I listened to them mostly in Terry Cain's room at RMAF, Terry died in Dec of that year I think. I remember helping to pack up his car and thinking he looked so very tired that wasted tired you get when you are sick really sick. Nice man Terry.I feel fortunate to have met him in Denver. Best regards Moray James.
  18. FWIW the larger models have bigger power supplies and they do sound better just in case you love this one and get a honkering for MORE. Multiple channels lets you do that multi amp thing if you get the itch too. Have fun. I bought these (the large ones) for my kids and they sound good. Best regards Moray James.
  19. I have not looked for a while but the Fostex drivers you mention have fairly similar efficiency ratings. At a guess the FF165k is probably a tad higher compared to the Fe166e but don't quote me on that. You can talk to the manufacturer about having the input sensitivity of your Wright 2A3 amps adjusted. You did not mention it but subs would also go a long way to obtaining more out of your speakers. Good luck and havefun. By the way it was in the Cain room at the RMAF some years back I listened to the Serious Stereo amps. They are most impressive. Best regards Moray James.
  20. If adding some gain via the pre amp gets you there for the times you want the extra level and things are still quiet enough (noise wise) for you why is there an issue? Not sure what you are referring to with regards to swapping out your Fostex can you elaborate? Regards Moray James.
  21. A 2A3 in single ended mode is going to give you about 3.5 watts clean a little moe not so clean for peaks. I have an Antique Sound Labs Tulip stereo 2A3 amp with some upgrades and it is a lovely amp to listen to with impressive bass weight and control. Any amp is going to be as good sounding as its supply and circuit will allow. They will all sound a little different. I spent some time listening to a Serious Stereo 2A3 design which the designer said was set up for a 1/2 a watt per channel and on efficient speakers if really seemed like a 200 watt amp that just did not play as loud. Probably one of the finest sounding amps I have ever heard. Another superb sounding tube is the 6BM8 which in Japan is as well thought of as the 300B in America. A 6V6 run as a triode is also a superb tube. As a pentode a 6V6 will give you more power and a lot of solid punch. Big iron rules the day when it comes to tube amps. Hope this is of some use. As to level that will depend uponn your speakers efficiency and your desired listening level. That said you can play louder than most folks want to listen at with a couple of watts. Check out some flea power amps and decide for yourself. Be aware that a good flea power amp is not going to be a tiny one. Best regards Moray James.

  23. Seti: have you had the opportunity to compare the mid of a Forte ll with the mid of a KLF20? Do you know any of the design history of these two horns? Have you come across comparrisons of these two speakers on the forum? Thanks for your response, this seems to be a bit of a black hole. No KLF20's about (in my area) to listen to. Best regards Moray James.
  24. Here is something that would fit your budget and probably make your AU-717 sound a lot better and last a lot longer. Have the Sansui re capped with quality electrolytic caps through out. At the very least it will sound a lot better and it won't go south taking your speakers with it. It's well past the best before date on the factory caps. Elna Panasonic Nichicon a host of companies all make very good sounding electrolytic caps. Works for me. Best regards Moray James. A good friend just rebuilt and hotrodded a Sansui AUD-11 Mkll sounds wonderful kicks but.
  25. I would like to say that I find both this community at the Klipsch Forum is really more like a family than a community and I find that both the people here as well as the corporate input and envolvement are very special. Perhaps that means that there is still hope for Hope as the company moves into the future. I am both thankfull and appreciative, I am fortunate to be able to participate here. Thanks to all. Moray James.
