    Remotes

My nephew wanted a surround sound that will play everything. Got him a 20 year old Pioneer 5.1 He did not want to spend much money. Are the Pioneers, like my Yamaha CD players in that if the remote works for one model it also works with the others? If I can find a cheap remote that works I'd like to pick one up.
  3. My first Tube amps were McIntosh MC-30's They are for sale, but only after I die!
  4. We put up fabric on a wall about 30 years ago. Still up and looking good.
  5. Door handles that are "L" shaped work better for those that have difficulty with the round nobs. Whether from injury or aging. Yeah I know this thread has about run it's course. Coytee, When you get the lift in I'd like to see it. Heck I'd like to see the improvements you have done to make your home more accessible for the young lady. john
  6. Welcome Cindy. Are Blond Jokes OK? If you want to make jokes about me it is OK. I was in a roll over doing about 20mph once. john
  7. YEAH, I seen where that got us. And I think the POTUS is more of a varmint then a new messiah.
  8. Sometimes it seems like you can't say or post anything with out offending someone. CHIT
  9. Google the man. Not saying that all of em feel the same way.
  10. Stating for myself only. I sometimes carry. But I don't want to shoot anyone. I have never felt the need to pull a weapon on anyone. I have seen situations defuse when someone was abusing others and a holstered firearm encouraged the abusers to step down. I have no respect for the group named in the original post. They are just WRONG!
  11. Don't need no dam hunting permits. Varmints are Varmints. Some cultures seem to think that any women showing skin are prostitutes, or at least deserving of any sexual advances/attacks. No rights to say NO! A woman that has been raped and disregarded or degraded when they complained may very well feel as though they live in a rape culture. If they live in a culture as mentioned they may very well live in an environment where rape is tolerated.
  12. I expect to hear gun fire. Hear it every week, seems like. Maybe some small explosions. I won't be involved. And if those people decide to hold their rally here, I would expect to hear circumcision being done with an axe.
  13. Good comment. Why do you suppose it works that way? I think there are various reasons that this happens. I don't pretend to know or understand it all. #1 In some cases I think money is given to countries in hope that they will be our friends. It's kinda like blackmail in that once we start giving them money we don't want to stop for fear that they will not like us. #2 Lack of accountability for taxpayers money put out for building countries infrastructure. #3 Building steel mills for countries that then go on to undercut made in USA steel. I'm sure there are other foreign industries that have benefited from our forced donation. Of course there are some valid out of country expenditures. #4 Giving away military equip. Just seems like we spend too much time, money, and Veterans taking care of the rest of the world when we can't take care of ourselves.
  14. Lot of Deep opinions here. Will not argue for are against. But do feel we spend too much money by giving millions, or is it billions to other countries. If we looked after our own 1st there would be more money in this country to spend on things our citizens need.
  15. I find that when it seems that everybody else, or a lot of other people are the problem, I need to take a good long look in the mirror.
  16. I'm trying to imagine being at my death bed and wondering why I wasted my time discussing food, and good health with other people, instead of spending all day posting pictures of hipsters in meat helmets? I think you may have forgotten all of the other time you have wasted arguing and pontificating on other subjects as well. Surely your superior intellect would have you contributing to more worthy causes, and not bothering with us low life obese geezers, right? Or is it just within your nature to be the bully? Don't get him worked up. It will only end with another thread locked Careful dtel, Ya gotta sleep some time!
  17. My son who is a plumber and has worked on new construction as well as remodels says that the walk in showers with a seat and a shower head on a hose comes to mind 1st. 2nd is an open floor plan. No hallways. 3rd the pocket doors are easier for someone in a wheel chair to use then the standard doors. Our resident shower is a walk in that has a seat in it. Plenty of room for those that stand. And a place to sit for those that need to. Easy access to exit doors are also important. Of course having a home on a single level makes things much easier then a multi level home. Come on guys, we can think of more things. Ask more questions. And express more ideals. It may not be speakers but we will all have to deal with this stuff, or know people that will. john
  18. My wife runs an adult foster care home from our home. (Probably already said this). Anyhow we have over 50' of wheel chair ramp which makes for a 100' walk from the house to the driveway. Have had residents using walkers and crutches on the ramp that has 1" slope per 1' of ramp. Some are not able to use the ramp and use a wheelchair when they go out. Most do quite well on the ramp. Now 50' of ramp is certainly better the 120 or 140' of ramp. But it seems that the rise per foot of ramp works well for most people even those using a walker.
  19. 1 inch rise for each foot of ramp is what is code here on the west coast. The ramp might not be the thing for Coytee. But of course that is for Coytee to decide. Or his WIFE
  20. From the picture you gave us it looks like it would not be much of a problem to put in a cement walk up the hill to the upstairs. You could put a snow/ice melting circuit for when you get bad weather. You do get snow and ice there. The lifts refereed to look nice and are not as expensive as I would have thought. But what if the power goes out?
  21. Knew a gentleman that had his house remodeled. Nice kitchen and living room but skimped on the bathroom. Door was too small for a wheel chair and he became wheelchair bound. Wound up in a nursing home. He would have eventually went to a nursing home anyhow. But a larger door on the bathroom would have been better for everyone. After my sister died and her house was put up for sale, mom said they were asking way too much for it and it wouldn't sell. Sold shortly for a good price above what other houses in the neighborhood had sold for.
  22. I think a firm upstanding thebes would enjoy warming the Twins after they got through playing in the show. Or die trying!
  23. Did not want to crap on Coyotee's thread about a lift. Some of the things I've seen elsewhere. As well as at home where my Wife runs an adult foster care home. We all get older and some of us become disabled with the years. When remodeling one can plan for those that are disabled, or for when you or family become disabled. Easy access showers are great when mobility is no longer as good as it used to be. A very low threshold with grab rails make a world of difference. A large shower is also nice. And I've seen some nice large ones. A wheelchair ramp can be used by everyone. Our ramp goes to the upstairs of the house where the adult residents live with Kathy and I. We use it for everybody. And it is handy when someone needs an ambulance. We use LED light strings to light the ramp and deck. Have a cart that we can pile groceries in to move up the ramp. Lot easier then carrying them. Also good for moving heavy items upstairs. Recommend not using cedar for the ramp as it does not last as long as pressure treated. Any cement access should have snow melting circuit if you have freezing weather from time to time. Bathroom doors should be the same size as exterior doors. 36". If you ever have to get someone on a gurney you will welcome the larger door. If there is a lip at the door such as our sliding glass door does, a small ramp, like 3" wide may make it easier for those using a walker. I've seen pocket doors used to good effect. The wider the doorways the easier it is to accompany someone with a walker or W/C. Washroom can be set up with front loading washer and dryer. Plenty of counter space that is proper height for someone to do their laundry from a W/C. Kitchen can have cabinets that lower with a flip of a switch allowing easier access for those disabled. As well as for those that are vertically challenged. Low counters for microwave and other necessities make it easier. Two dishwashers. One for clean dishes and one for the dirty. You'd be surprised at how convenient this is. Remote controlled window blinds are Great if you lack mobility. As is a remote controlled gas fire place which can be turned on, up, down and off. Make all the disability friendly things you can, If you decide to sell later you will be able to get a good return as someone will have a home pretty much ready to accommodate their disabilities. If anyone has other suggestions, welcome. If ya want to crap. Crap here, just address it to me. john
