  1. The Tangent 400s are ported Heresys. The same components as Heresy 2s if I recall. I have the 500s, which have a passive radiator instead of ports. Obviously, the cabinets need work. That is the next major project for me. I am building new cabinets for the Tangent 500s. I have heard some mention you could brace and reinforce the cabinets. I am just building new. I think they can shine with the right work. I know most do not want to build cabinets, but it is an option. What price were the Tangent 400?
  2. I would remove the components, but you might be able to just cover them. Maybe others will chime in.
  3. Not Harsh enough, and does your nephew know how lucky/cursed he is with that starting system? Lucky: Great speakers to start with that give good base and good sound. Cursed: Soon he will be like the rest of us who can't get enough and are always tinkering with the system.
  4. You are correct that the title should have been universal players. But the question in the first post was about Universal Players. I do enjoy people answering the title just as much as the post. I like the input about LG and PS3. I do not miss that input.
  5. So the Rega 3 gets a little bump in its consideration.
  6. Another problem with the PS3, no DVD Audio playback. And later models don't even do SACD. The problem with the LGs is no DVD Audio or SACD. I have looked into the PS3 but as I do have some DVD Audios, I did not want a second player just for those. That is why Cambridge Audio, Yamaha, Oppo, and even Denon and Marantz are the ones considered so far. I have debated about going separate CD/SACD player and Blu Ray/ DVD Audio Players. I feel a CD/SACD player may load faster and not have the video circuitry. I know that the Oppo has Audio Only mode but it also disables the front panel counter I thing (My old Marantz DVD A and SACD player does this). I would be willing to here CD/SACD suggestions, but doubt ones can be had for a reasonable price and sound as good as the aforementioned Universal Players. One downside to the cheapest Denon/Marantz Universals is they do not have 7.1 channel outs. This is important to people who are upgrading players before receiver/processors.
  7. I was leaning away from Stanton and Audio-Technica because that was my impression. The Denon's did not look as quality as the Rega. Pro-Ject got my attention at Simply Stereo. That is what they carry. Rega has me interested but that is a different stereo place to go.
  8. I understand that he asked two questions in his post but I see that being taken care of so far. So I will answer his Title question: NOT ENOUGH, NEVER ENOUGH SPEAKERS!
  9. I guess I have to jump in and ask more. As a BluRay player fell into my lap, I may have money to spend on turntables. at this point, I would prefer to go new and under $1000. I want more of plug and play at this point. Rega, Pro-Ject, Music Hall have been what I was looking into based on past info gathered here. Now I am wondering about: Stanton Audio-Technica Thorens Denon I will be following this and the other Vinyl/Turntable recent postings closely. I almost started a new thread but I have not reached the milestone where I can get personalized answers yet []
  10. I was going to come here and ask for opinions on Universal players for my system. I hopefully will be receiving a job offer that has a "Signing/Moving" Bonus shortly and was planning on using the money toward a Blu Ray Player. I was hoping to get opinions on Oppo, Cambridge Audio, and Yamaha players that do DVD Audio, SACD, and Blu Ray. 3D not of importance. But then I saw an Oppo 83 for less than $200 on craigslist. I was not the first to call, but the first never got back to the guy and did not ask for him to hold it. I ran it through the paces and bought it. It did not have a remote, but I just bought the back-lit one online for $17 shipped. After my purchase, I still think it is an interesting discussion that can be had. I was looking for $1000 or less. That means up to the Cambridge Audio Azur 751BD. Also considered would be the two Denon and Marantz models under $1000. This could be a good discussion for others. I plan to head to Simply Stereo to compare Yamaha and Cambridge tomorrow and will update this then. But I would love to hear from others.
  11. Get away while you can. This place is BAD. People here share your ideas of hoarding speakers. If you have a choice between two sets, people here will tell you to buy both and compare for yourself. They push this addiction further. That is how a poor kid like me can have Chorus IIs, Quartets, Academy, Tangent 500s, and fortes while enjoying my father's system of La Scalas, 3 Heresys, and 2 CornScalas. (All Heritage or relatives). Well, if you are still reading, welcome to this place. And when you want to sell some khorns, don't call me as I am out of money. I even passed on $550 Cornwall Decorators that looked nice.
  12. Welcome to the forum. First, I would call Klipsch first and see if they stock a replacement and get their input if they don't. It surprises me what they carry sometimes. Second, others from the forum will be along shortly to add input on where. Third, has nothing to do with your problem exactly, but is tangential to the topic. I have a single KG 1.2 V in oiled oak. I may be willing to part with it. It could be a replacement or the matching center for you. Just a thought and wanted to put it out there. PM me if you are interested, or reply back here.
  13. Great deal and nice job refinishing. If the T-5000s are anything like the Tangent 500s, the cabinets can use some bracing (I plan to build brand new cabinets eventually). But the components are great quality and the speakers can shine.
  14. I thought I stumbled onto that website from this forum but I was not sure. I follow the blog with my google reader.
  15. I do wish the search feature worked batter as well. I try to help out people as much as I can. Soon I can get those personalized answers I so often seek.
  16. I have also been interested in the KLF-20 or 30s. I have heard the C7 and know it is preferred to the academy by some. I can see how it is good. I want to audition the KLFs myself. I have heard good things besides the cabinets. I was thinking that I could build new cabinets for the speakers. I need to finish the Tangent 500 project first. Ironsave, I just saw a posting for KLF-20s in the alerts. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/151523.aspx Thought you might be interested. I find the Chorus IIs to be a step up from the forte Is. I love the Chorus IIs. If someone has done comparisons of the KLF 30s and Chorus IIs please give more input.

  18. Exactly, ask the same question multiple times. And ask questions others have asked multiple times. I want a new thread for "MY" question. And I want well thought out answers customized for ME.
  19. I love reading as much as I can about Klipsch, PWK and audio reproduction that deals with both. I have the 280 page pdf of dope from hope and other assorted readings from the forum here that I am working my way through. I thought I would share the Rolling Stone article from retro hifi and am glad the live music pdf was shared. Thanks.
  20. I thought some people might enjoy this link. Its a good story. http://itishifi.blogspot.com/2011/07/1975-rollingstones-klipsch-article.html
  21. I just stumbled across this discussion. I am glad you went ahead and bought two completely different pairs of Klipsch speakers. While reading, I predicted you would prefer the KGs to the RFs. Considering what you want to use and listen to, those who said K-horn and La Scala were correct. Later, those are what you would like to listen to the most in my opinion. If you want to take a step to the three way but cannot step up to the La Scalas, I recommend the Forte/Quartet/Chorus line. Quartets can be had for around heresy prices when you watch for them. You do not seem like the one to add a sub to heresys for listening to jazz, blues, and classical.
  22. Those KG 1.5s in the backs do not match but they probably do well enough for what they are used for. I would not want to listen to Surround Sound SACD/DVD Audio/Blu Ray concerts in your system necessarily (I prefer the 5.1 for these which the Quartets, academy, and Heresy 2 would sound great). Upgrading tweeters and updating caps always open up the sound.
  23. I highly recommend the quartets, and they would be the last speaker I would let go. I would allow every La Scala, Chorus II, Forte, CornScala and Heresy to go before the quartets. Upgrading them could give you a great speaker. They sound amazing in two channel. If you plan to move to 7.1 though, I do not know if the quartets are the way you want to go. Finding a matching center is an issue: Academy is the center match but is expensive. Another Quartet would be great, but is a size issue for most. Matched surrounds mean you are looking for more quartets, or heresys. You could also go with Forte/Chorus I/II and move the quartets to surround duty as well. Or you can go with non-matched surrounds I guess what I am saying is that the quartets are great speakers. Doing a matching HT system could be expensive but worth it. The center is what I would be most worried about later.
  24. I would bet that those forte II sound great with a Carver M-4.0t. I have been looking to getting a 4.0t sometime. I love the 1.5ts that I have. And i know that the M-4.0t is supposed to sound like the silver sevens.
  25. I would put the top one upside down. I have not done it with La Scalas, but have been known to stack my speakers.
