  1. Digging up an old thread here. Just out of curiousity what did Klipsch originally use to glue their speakers?
  2. I work with a semi retired chinese guy who is in to audio gear (mainly for home theater) and he was telling me that he would soon be getting a new receiver to replace his old one. I asked him what brand he was looking at and he said that it would have to be Sony. A little surprised I asked why it would have to be Sony and he said because that's what he currently has and his wife wouldn't notice the difference. I got a good chuckle out of that one!
  3. I have read most of the posts. I know Dale well enough to know that he has a good heart and he doesn't mean any harm. Really. I've asked him to stop using my name and company name in his posts though. I don't think that will be a problem anymore as I see his account is deactivated. Actually, I hope he's ok. All jokes about meds aside, I do think there is something seriously going on there that may need some attention, and I wish him the best. Greg Now I feel kind of bad.
  4. There's definitely something strange going on with this guy.
  5. Hey, cool! I got a pair of ar98ls from my dad that I was very fond of. I ended up selling them as didn't have the cash for a high powered amplifier at the time. I also had some KEF 105.2's that had excellent bass but very dull highs. Dynaco A25's are real fine too!
  6. If you like deep bass take the Forte, if you prefer smoother more open mids then go with the Choruses. By the way, if you position the Choruses properly you give up very little bass compared to the Forte (I know because I own them both).
  7. I did Bob's a/4500 xovers with new tweets and I love the sound. This year I also had a combination of ALK's gentle and extreme slope xovers in my khorns but I prefer the simpler, less tame sound of Bob's.
  8. For me after hearing my Khorns in stock form I found them to be very real sounding and unveiled, better than anything I heard before. After awhile I learned I could do some mods that would take them to another level so I couldn't resist. I think alot of people do love them in stock form but with some inexpensive mods they can become even better.
  9. Awesome, can't wait to hear your impressions! I hope to order a set of Cornscalas in the next few months but I'm not sure which version yet.
  10. Have you ever had Adcom though? I did and it sounded like glass shattering. Have you ever had Adcom though? I did and it sounded like glass shattering.
  11. You're dead wrong about any amplifier should sound good with khorns! Wrong, wrong, wrong! I've experienced it myself. If you want one of the greatest speakers ever designed to sound like it then you need to build your system around the khorn instead of throwing any type of high powered amplifier at it (adcom). If you're not willing to do that then sell them to someone who is. Also, if your room is too small then your efforts are futile.
  12. d What a ridiculous statement, you forgot to add IMHO because that's all it is. Sure lots of newer separates will beat the pants of any vintage receiver but to go as far as to call them terrible sounding is outrageous. Time to jump off the high horse me thinks.
  13. Yup, VERY nice looking setup (and sounding too I'm sure). I would love to hear the mac and klipsch combo and hopefully will someday. Enjoy!
  14. Thanks for the responses thus far. I recently purchased a combination gentle/extreme slope crossover network from Al and am currenly not overly impressed. However, I do agree that at louder levels they are more relaxed and less blary but overall I still prefer my a/4500's from Bob. I'm currently using a Marantz 2245 to drive them but in the near future I will be receiving a rebuilt HH Scott 299(a). Obviously it's all going to depend on my mood and how loud I want it.
  15. Which ones do you prefer for your khorns and why? Also, what kind are you using as they both offer up an assortment?
  16. I've read that Bob Crites doesn't think much of the titanium mids either.
  17. Pretty sad when you're so lazy you can't even type a response to a question.
  18. Are you sure they're not just faded? If they've been in the sun alot they won't look black anymore.
  19. Wow, those are pretty tacky colours, more reminiscent of the 70's not the 80's. Probably pretty rare too.
  20. Really? I've never seen any other colour than black for the grills. Got any pics?
  21. I'm not surprised as that type of amp is often referred to as rather clinical sounding whereas the earlier Marantz have much more finesse.
  22. I'm expecting it to be less warm sounding then your 2230 with tighter bass, more detail and alot brighter. Let me know if my assumptions are correct.
  23. I personally prefer the I's over the II's because of the tractrix horn which I find it a little echoey at times. A bit better bass extension on the I's would be nice though.
  24. Well I can't honestly say as I have yet to audition the PM15S2 but I am very satisfied with my 2245. It's similar to the 2230 but has tighter bass and more precise highs. The 2230 is definately more tube sounding. Either way you slice it Marantz and Klipsch are a match made in heaven.
