Ok I'm a novice. How do you know you need to re cone your K33s? Did you obviously blow them out? Or is it much more subtle? BTW, I have a pair of Khorns(circa 1980) and a pair of Lascalas(circa 1977), both still sound good to me. But hey I'm old. babadono

This reminds me of how quick you can run out of amplifier power. I agree with some of the other post on increased dynamic as a goal and not volume. Most Klipsch speaker can get really loud but the detailed sound is what's best. And remember every 10dB increase in SPL is preceived by us humans as a doubling of volume. So in the example from 90 to 110db it got 4 times louder but the amplifier power went up 100 times!

Beechnut, Did you even consider in ceiling speakers? I really want to hide as many wires as possible and I know in my realatively new house the electrician put some wires up in the ceiling someplace. He said "Oh you're gonna need these, trust me". In my situation it is one side that is open to the kitchen not the rear. babadono

Hello, I am a long time Klipsch heritage speaker owner in my 2 channel set up but trying to get my first HT set up in my familyroom. I am thinking of going with RF-7ii and RC-64ii across the front but because of the room and WAF I think I'll have to go with in ceiling speakers for surrounds and/or rear. Is this going to work? It looks like by your graphs DrWho that in the audible band the 2.2k resistor doesn't make as PWK used to say a "dimes worth of difference". Especially with the 100 ohm output impedance. Am I interpreting the graph correctly? babadono

DrWho, In both graphs there are two sets of curves, excuse my ignorance but one is amplitude and one is phase? Ok that's cool. But 1 Mhz, even the dogs in my neighborhood can't hear up there and I'll be lucky if I can hear 15 kilohertz. But thanks very much for anaysis. I still don't understand the original claim by djk that loading down the input of an amplifier magically cancels the effect of cable capacitance. I do understand of course that measuring or listening to an amp that has its input unterminated is noisier than an amp whose input is shorted to ground through 2.2k. babadono

Dr Who?/djk I'm getting confused. The lower input resistance is still getting even lower at higher frequencies because of the capacitve reactance (of the cable) isn't it? Maybe that is what you mean by a non elegant solution. This sounds like hocus pocus to me. What's the difference if the 2.2 k is at the output of the driving circuit or the input of the receiving circuit? It still attenuates the signal because of the non zero output impedance of the driving circuit.

djk, When you say terminate what do you mean? 2.2K right across the input signal to ground? Or in series with the signal? babadono

Coytee, Only 2 feet! Just about any wire configuration should work. It sounds like you have confirmed that you are talking about unbalanced equipment (I own a 3BX also, I know it is unbalanced). The chassis of the 2 pieces of equipment must be tied togrther some how. Otherwise there is no circuit. But at a length of 2 feet it is not going to matter if is the shield or the white conductors or both that are connecting the chassis together. BTW if your 3BX is as old as mine, which it probably is since they only made them for a few years long ago, make sure you give those RCA jacks a good cleaning.[] babadono

Coytee, What are you wiring? Unbalanced equipment? If so you should always use the shield for the ground connection, otherwise why call it a shield? Whether you also use the white conductors is a try it both ways and see. Adding the white conductors will lower the resistance of the ground connection (good) but also increase the capacitance the signal on the blue conductors see to ground (bad).How long are the wire runs? Remember both resistance and capacitance go up the longer the wire runs. babadono

Hi All, Thanks for all the responses but I have to go with the opinion of miketn since he owns both and has used both. In my situation a new DC 1 has a much higher WAF then a used DX 38. I also think but of course cannot prove that the algorithms from one EV product to another cannot be all that much different. From an EV to an Ashly or DBX yes but EV to EV? Probably the same engineer or team is responsible for both, ah but I am speculating so I think I will shut up now. babadono

To go to a Jubilee set up 2 way an active crossover and bi amplification is recommended. Since the EV DX 38 is a goner (no longer produced) does the EV DC1 do all that is required? Michael, Bob Crites has a tutorial on his website on the rebuild of an AA crossover (using the parts he wants to sell you, of course ). But methinks all his instructions and points should translate into what you are doing. IMHO always SOLDER --- if done correctly it lasts forever. babadono
