  1. [:S] I have the Paradigm DST-3200, and it harder than any other sub I own. Paradigm subs are not cheap, so I'm not sure how they fare in the "for the money" part of the title question. Fot the money you would be best picking a DYI plan, and building a sub. If money is no object, JL Audio makes a darn good sub. Any of them would make you smile. The cheapest one they sell is $2100 retail, though. [:S]
  2. I misread the original post. I was thinking you were making an auto sub. Hook the amp up to the sub, and see how it works. What were you gonna do with the old thing anyway???
  3. I have some very old Monster Cable I bought that had a thin blue dielectric running in the center of the copper braid. That was suppose to make some difference. Quite frankly, now I am far less concerned with the wire I use. Right now, I am using an old orange extension cord to go from my POS receiver to my Heresies in my garage, and it sounds ducky.
  4. Congrats! Iron: That happens to me all the time when I have the TV on with my LaScalas.
  5. Welcome to the forum. That sounds like a very cool project. Perhaps Crites himself is listening in. If you call him with the question, I am sure he would help you decide. Best of luck, and let us know how this beast of a project works out.
  6. For strictly investment purchasing, I would stay under $175. It I were putting a HT system together, and wanted KG x.5 series stuff, I'd probably go up to $250 including shipping. Likely you would only get $200 of that back when you are done with them. I paid $189 including shipping for some measily KG 2.5's, but it was because I was finishing out a 5.1 system. The shipping was $59 of that.
  7. Wait a second, what about Mother Nature? She made some serious bass the other day in the Richmond/Charlottsville area. Frankly, though, I think Father Universe may be the winner with the one-time Big Bang. The only trouble is, nobody witnessed it, so it may not have made any noise. hmmmm
  8. +1 for the 4.5 or bigger for the fronts. Don't forget the 4.2's when you are searching. It has been stated that there is no discernable timbre difference in the point 2's and the point 5's of the KG series. I currently have a system running KG 4.2's L/R, a KG 2.5 center, and KG 2.5's rear. My sub is a nice sized Paradigm.
  9. My vote is for a pair of LaScalas and a subwoofer to get the frequencies below 60Hz. Heresies sell for between 650and 1200 a pair, and subs can be made or bought for $200 to $infinity. If you want to get in budget, I would say replace the LaScala idea with Heresy II. You will still need a sub.
  10. I think rigma wins. Yesterday he purchased 100, yes that's right, one hundred, KPT-904 Dual 15 subs. Now all he needs is a 40,000 watt amp.
  11. I don't have any ALK's in any of mine. The best sounding Xover I use is the AL-3. They are better than the AA's IMO. speakerfritz was accumulating AL xovers a while back. Perhaps he will help you out of them.
  12. One of my pairs of LS's were as you described, and I did the capacitor replacement, and replaced the dried up horn gaskets, and they sounded like completely diffrent speakers. When I bought another pair with oil can xovers, I went ahead and called Bob Crites.
  13. Great find! Let us know how they sound when you get them fixed up.
  14. I am not a heritage fan. I am an obsesive compulsive heritage fanatic. [D]
  15. I'd say 50 or 60 Hz, as the vf-36 is a 36 Hz speaker, and I like to start at about 15Hz above the lowest. The reason for this is that crossovers do not actually cut off at the frequency specified, and 15Hz is a big enough margin to avoid the distortion a too-low signal can create. The 60Hz is due to the small size of the surrounds.

Welcome to the forum. Can you clarify what you mean by a splitter? If you indeed have a sub out on your receiver and a sub in on your sub, that is the best way to connect them. Also, tell us what receiver and what sub you have, and the approximate size of the listening room. If you want more bass response from a sub, the best way is to experiment with placement. A corner will result in the most gain. The corner acts as a crude amlipfier, but it is very effective with low frequencies. The distance from the corner and the direction the sub is facing can be experimented with. Remember that you want it to sound best from your listening position, so sit there to test it.
  17. Let me know how you manage that, as I have to ceiling mount a pair of KG 2.5's, and I'm trying to figure out how without making it look like a night club.
  18. Isn't that the Tuba HT in the unfolded mode? That is the intent. In measuring the plans, though, the table version is actually 2 inches shorter. Also, the horn on the flare of the table version is more drastic, and has a bigger mouth. Those would explain the lower tuning of the upright one (horn length), and the reduced flattness of the table version (the flare at the end).

  20. Syracuse is the closest pair I found. http://syracuse.craigslist.org/ele/2528156437.html Here is a listing in our Garage Sale section for Industrial splits: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/151703.aspx edit: Looks like it's the same pair.
  21. Look at these on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-KSP-400-Synergy-Floor-Speakers-15-Subwoofers-/150649128755?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item2313634733 Los Osos, CA local pickup. These are some wife-friendly mahogany speakers, and it is a good price at $499 OBO.
  22. Just landed the final pieces of my KG system. I already had the KG 4.2 L/R and the KG 2.2 center (thanks to jhoak), and now I have these KG 2.5's for my surrounds: $188.98 including shipping. I'm pretty pumped, but now I have to figure out how to ceiling mount these things. My wires are run to banana jacks in the ceiling itself. Any suggestions on a ceiling mount?
