  1. Holy Friggin' Cow. That Royal device post was awsome. I know what I am going to do if I ever win the lottery. I wonder if it would be possible to get a listen...humm. 3. Jason - I don't know where in TX you live but if you are in the DFW area I would be willing to help you with some component swaps to see if it is hardware related. 4. Well I am not sure that I can answer all of these questions but I will take a stab at some of it. >RF7 mains >RC7 center >RF3 sides >RF3 rears >SVS Ultra Would be an awsome system :-) >won't it help you stay away from the dreaded "upgrade my speakers" bug? hehe umm no...although it may hold it for awhile >2. Would it be a better idea to have another RF3 as a center channel instead of the RC7? (if so how would you set it up?) This would be hard to do unless you were going to be using a front projection system and could place teh RF3 behind the screen. Barring that the best possible mounting positoin (in my opinion) would be upside down (so the tweeter is closer to your ears) on top of the tv. I have no idea how you would do this thou :-) >3. With the full range capabilities in the speakers, would the SVS Ultra be overkill on the bass side?(would a 20-39 work just as good?) Even with these speakers I would still set them to small (crossover at 80Hz or so) and have a subwoofer. your room size would be the most important factor in deciding between a single or multiple Ultra/20-39's. I have Cornwall's as my mains and although it was hard for me to do (and believe) I set them to small per the advice of folks here and the whole system really does sound better this way. >7. Since these speakers are so powerful and efficient I wouldn't need any external amplification if the receiever was pushing 110x7, would I? Again really depends on your room size and the sound levels that you are trying to achive. >9. If I do this, who is willing to come up and help me set this monster up?!? Humm are you going to pay for plane tickets :-) Sounds like it could be fun :-) Laters, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC This message has been edited by eq_shadimar on 09-04-2001 at 10:35 AM
  5. Humm this is a tough question. I looked at the specs and while it does have a DVD component input it does not mention that it supports 480p. My experience is that all HDTV's will list the modes that they support (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc..). Since this information is not provided my best guess would be that it will not support the 480p output of a progressive scan DVD player. Maybe you will have to call Sony to find out for sure. 7. quote: Originally posted by e_atatah: same for rear what kind also in car audio rear fill is supposed to be very low is it the same in home and what to look for in a reciever also on the sub i was ganna get an adireaudio tempest 15 inch subwoofer it has dual 8 ohm v coils and needs a good 300 -400 watts so what r some good amps Humm ok here goes on top of everything people have said I will fill in some more information for ya. I agree about the tower speaker statement but you could get by with some smaller bookshelf type with that monster sub. Usally in a home theater the rear channels are made for directional cues and what I will call filler noises. The older dolby surround sound specs did not call for an amp to provide equal power to the rear speakers. The 5.1 specs do call for the amp to provide the same power to the rear. The reason is that a lot of the directional cues are loud like tanks gunshoots etc. I would say the rear speakers are much more important in home theater than in car audio. As far as receivers go if it does DTS and DD decoding then the main features to concern yourself with (in the price range you are going to be looking in) would be the RMS power per channel and bass management. The Outlaw is a good unit and you can use those features as a starting point. You can probably get by with a cheaper receiver if you do not care about the amount of digital inputs and outputs, s-video and composite video switching and converting. To power your sub you can get an older power amp. Sometimes on ebay you can pick up steals. I have seen beast amps like my Hafler go for 200-300 on ebay. You will want a high quality amp to drive the sub otherwise the amp will clip and make it easy to fry the voice coil. This would be very bad. That is it I guess. Let us know what you find, we can certainly offer opinions on it. EDIT - If you want to drive up to Dallas I can make you a smokin' deal on my RF-3's or the entire R*3 system. Let me know...(yes sick I know but I need those Heresy's baby :-) I may be convinced to let my old HK AVR 20MKII dolby surround sound (NOT digital 5.1) amp go also. 8. Yeah yeah I loved my KG4's when I had them. They were the speakers that hooked me on the Klipsch sound. A couple of weeks ago I gave (not sold) them to a good friend who all of a sudden needed some speakers. They are in a good home but I do miss them. I made him promise to give them back to me when he does not need them anymore. He better... I would go for the surrounds next too, then center, then sub, then rinse repeat starting with the mains again hehe it never ends. 9. Ok I know this has been said before but Tom and Ron provide awsome customer service. I have bugged them with all sorts of stupid questions which they answered prior to me spending a dime with them. Additionally the response of their spares department is simply awsome. If anyone is nervous about getting an SVS product because they are an internet only dealer...don't be. I think they provide world class customer service and they stand behind their product as promised. 10. I use a Hafler Pro 505 for my subwoofer amp (400W/channel/4 ohms, 255W/channel/8 ohms, 800w/4 ohm bridged) and it works fine. I was toying with the idea of using another one to run my front mains. I am not sure about the distortion ratings but I think it would be hard to beat the the .08% distortion of my HK AVR 510 in a comerical amp. On the other hand I am sure I don't hear the .1% distoration of the Hafler either. If I get a bug up my butt I will try switching the mains over to the Hafler and let ya know how that turns out. 16. Cool ideas! I am very familer with the superstrut stuff as we used that to build our cleanroom's inner rooms with. I never would have thought to use it but that could work very nicly as the superstructure esp since on day I hope to have a Cornwall center channel. I will have to go give it a look. Right now I am playing around with Visio and painters tape on the walls to figure out placement and stuff. It is going to be quite a project. 17. Hummm well now that kindda throws a wrench in things. Actually to be honest I was looking for the convinence factor of banana plugs. I thought that banana plugs were "da bomb" for hookups? Everyone seems to want them. I don't know much about this so any further information would be great. I certianly don't want to make my sound worse. ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  18. I am in the process of designing a custom wall unit to house all the HT equipment and I have some questions reguarding the bottom or base of the unit. I was hoping that someone here has gone through this and can offer some insight. What I am debating about is if I should design a wood "floor" for the unit. I am only talking about a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood. I was thinking that this would provide a more stable base for the Cornwalls and big screen tv. The second question would be if I put a floor on the unit should I just place it on top of the existing carpet or cut out the carpet and place it on top of the concrete floor (maybe with some slight padding underneath??). Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  19. Well here goes nothing. I would have to agree with Kevin S on this one. I am not a recording expert but isn't the sound we hear determined by the engineer sitting at a mixing board with some knobs. He is the one that is deciding how we are going to hear the sound right? It is up to this engineer to make a good or bad sounding track wether it is 5 channel or 2 channel or one channel. I do not like music designed for two channel stereo sound played over all speakers becasue most of the DSP logic in receivers is not up to the task. I listen to all of my CD's in 2 channel mode. However,in my opinion, properly mixed multi channel recording can blow 2 channel away. The Eagle's Hell Freezes Over DVD listened to in 5 Channel DTS and the Bach DVD I have in 5 channel DD are simply awsome. They impart a sense of space that is stagering. If you think about it the only way to faithfully reproduce all the reflections in a concert hall would be to have an infinte amount of microphones for recording and an infinte amount of speakers for playback. I think that as the recording engineers get used to multi channel sound the recordings will sound more natural and less gimacky. Do you remember when CD's first came out and everyone said that they were harsh (ok some people still say they do)? That was because the engineers needed to learn how to mix for the clarity and dynamic range of the CD. There were these types of discussion during the change from mono to stereo too. In 10 years we may all be thinking how silly 2 channel is. Bottom line I think that it is possilbe to have both without tons of expense. I use my 5.1 amp in 2 channel mode for CD's and 5.1 mode for everything else. My Cornwalls are awsome in either mode and the sweet spot is in the same spot. Just my ramblings folks comments welcome, flames ignored. Remember is it not just a speaker, it si a way of life Laters, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC

  21. I am not clear on the type of cable running between the rooms but if it is coax give these a try. http://www.homs-smarthome.com/851101.html http://www.homs-smarthome.com/851103.html This site also has neat extenders for infra red remotes etc. so you could control your disc changer remotely. You could also try a wireless solution (also sold at this site) but they generally work in the 30Hz to 17KHz range but if it is not going to be used for "serious" listening that may be your best best. Some of the wireless devices will also transmit video too. 22. Can we never own enough Klipsch um no. Loving my Cornwalls and looking for more to complete the surround system. Maybe one of these days I can get a set of KHorns. 24. I know that Harmon Kardon sells a remote extender that will plug into the back of their amps and allow it to be controlled from other rooms. Maybe your equipment will have the same option. Look at this link too. I had a freind who got one and it seemed to work. Poke around the site a bit too they have lots of neat HT gagdets. Remember thou your socks can't cover up the transmitter.
