  1. I'm a fellow synthesizer nut myself. It all started when I got "Switched On Bach" for Christmas. I think the album you are refering to which I also had was "Everything you wanted to hear on the Moog Synthesizer but were afraid to ask", which I have not seen anywhere. Tom
  2. Easylistener, I guess it depends what area you are in as to whether you need to upgrade the equipment to get local channels . I'm in northeastern Wisconsin and was told that I need the oval dish to get local channels. Turns out that my receivers are just old enough to not support the oval dishes. Both services offer upgrade packages at around $49.00 for the dish and two receivers installed but you have to commit to a year of programing. It seems to be an excellent deal and Dish Network credits your first bill $49.00 and the first three months include HBO for free. Don't quote me on this because I may not have been listening to the salesman as close as I should have and he was jumping between the teo services with the info. Dish Network seems to offer a lot and I could get service from the local dealer. Thankyou for the replys I've gotten so far and I hope I've answered your question. Tom
  3. I am going to upgrade my dish service so I can receive local channels over my dish. But, to do this requires changing out the dish and the receivers. I currently have DirecTV. Both services offer good upgrade packages and I was wondering if any of you have had both and found one to be superior over the other and why? Just curious if the picture quality, service, pricing, etc. is better from one to the other. Thanks, Tom
  4. Hello Ki, If your amp clips it may shut down, I'm not sure. I never have driven mine into clipping. If it overheats it should shut down. I've never went past +6 over the reference level. I think my receiver is a higher wattage model than yours just going by model number. This may account for the levels we are playing at. Also, speaker efficiency has a great effect on this also. A 90db/watt rated speaker will require twice the wattage that a 93db/watt rated speaker does to play at the same level. I don't know if you have Klipsch speakers or not, but if you do you are reaching some pretty high levels of sound. If not, you may need to check into some, as they are among the most efficient speakers out there. It is their Forte if your know what I mean. I had KLF 10's and rarely played them past the +3. I don't think the peak light has anything to do with the amp output, only input. I hope this helps. If I have bad info here, hopefully someone will jump in with the right info. I hope this helps you. Tom
  5. Hello Ki and welcome to the forum. This is the third time I've typed this up since I keep getting phone calls which knock me off line and deletes what I have typed, so here goes. I have the MARANTZ SR7000 receiver which has the same peak indicator situation that you have. Don't worry, what you are experiencing sound normal. I had the same basic experience. I quote from the manual(This indicator is a monitor for an analog audio input signal. If the selected audio input signal is greater than the capable level of internal processing, the indicator will light. If this happens, you should press the ATT button.) I use the optical inputs on the receiver which eliminates the peak indicator from lighting. Hope this helps you. Tom
  6. I remember when the Tangent line came out. I think it was just a different level of product offered to the masses, possibly a different division in fact.I think it was one of the first offerings after the Heritage,Kg,and Epic series. It was very short lived as I remember and I never saw any at the Klipsch retailer I frequented. I'm just going by memory here. I don't have any hard data. Tom
  7. Justin, I went through some old Phase Tech brochures which say they've been producing drivers and completed systems on an OEM basis since the mid 1950's for many famous makers of stereo equipment. They are definitely a legitimate loudspeaker manufacturer building all of their own drivers. They are headquartered in Jacksonville, FL. I did audition their speakers in the 1980's but in the end, ended up with Klipsch Heresys. Tom
  8. Thanks for your help. The reason I was checking on the cabinets is that UPS is trying to deny the claim and so I was checking my options as to repairing them. Maybe I can sell the drvers, etc. out of them if UPS doesn't come through on this one. Anyone out there interested? If so, I'll let you know what happens and if they'll be available. Tom
  9. Trey, I tried to contact the parts dept. but couldn't get a hold of them. They state business hours as 8 to 5 cst., I'm in the central time zone calling them at 4pm, is it possible the phone automation didn't reset for the daylight savings ending? Anyway, I may possibly need two medium oak cabinets for KLF 10 speakers that UPS destroyed. Are they available and if so, what would the cost be? If not, do you or anybody have any suggestions as to repairing? I would need them complete including the feet and the grills.
  10. Has anyone out there heard of or auditioned any AAD loudspeaker systems? I did over the weekend and I think for the money they offer fantastic sound and value. I listened to the C800's which are two way towers containing a silk dome tweeter and four 6 1/2 woofers per speaker, $800.00 for the pair new. They are designed by Phil Jones of Platinum Audio and Soliloquy Audio fame. I may have a pair of KLF 10's to offer for sale if I decide to go with the C800's. I'll have to compare them side by side which is going to be a pain but it's the only way to decide I think. The dealer is 1 1/2 hours away from me. Any comments? Anyone heard them or of them?
  11. A few years ago I purchased a Marantz 7000 receiver which was very highly reviewed. I haven't had any trouble with it. I recently read a review of the Marantz 7200 and it didn't score very well at all. I was surprised to say the least. If I understand correctly, Marantz had some quality issues that made it into the marketplace. I'm thinking the unit you had was probably one of them. From what I've read, the problem has since been rectified. There is also some talk that Marantz and Denon are merging or are going to be under the same umbrella. I was looking for a Marantz five disc DVD player about three months ago and was told by my dealer that they discontinued their five disc player due to quality issues. I don't know if that situation has changed or not, I haven't followed up on it.
  12. I haven't heard the KG series in quite some time but as far as the KLF series goes; I auditioned the 10's, 20's, and 30's all side by side and ended up with the 10's. They had more bass output than the other models and the sound was better balanced. The 20's and 30's in my opinion have too much midrange which I thought over-rode the treble and bass. The 10's were much more balanced like the Definitive Technology BP2002's they replaced. You can check AUDIOREVIEW.COM for reviews on the 10's, several people had the same comments as I did. You can check reviews on all of the speakers you're interested in on that site. I don't know how you give the direct link so you'll have to look it up on a search engine or try audioreview.com.
  13. Montigue I auditioned the KLF 10's, 20's, and 30's and ended up with the 10's. In my opinion and also my salesman's, the KLF 10's had the best bass output of the three models and also the best balance. The 20's and 30's seem to have a predominance of midrange that over-rode the upper and low end. I don't see many comments on this forum by KLF 10 owners but I think this model has been highly under rated. They replaced my Definitive Technology BP 2002's which are very highly rated by the press. The KLF 10's have the same balanced sound only with a lot more impact and realism. Doors slamming, phones ringing, etc. are all very accurately reproduced. The Definitives just didn't do that.
  14. 1.Heresy's which I then traded up to Forte's. I no longer have the Forte's. I went with the Forte's because they had better LF response. I did a stupid thing and tried to get something better. I came back to the Klipsch fold with KLF10's. 2.The year was 1987, I was 30 at the time. 3.45 4.Heritage line was all the store offered at that time. 5.I couldn't go with the Heritage line due to space limitations. 6.Jubilees should be in the Heritage line. 15. About twenty-six years ago a friend of mine started calling me Tommytooter. My first name is Tom. I started using the name on the internet as an I.D. except I spelled it Tommytutor, not tooter, because I never checked the actual spelling until the time of this post. The tooter part actually came from the Tooter Turtle cartoon. Remember the Help Mr. Wizard!! Dwissom dwassom dwissom dwoom, time for this one to come home? Anyway, thats how I came about with the name I use.
  16. Boa 12 I looked through the book and didn't see anything on bass management other than subwoofer level or sub on or off. The manual is 102 pages long, all english, so I may have yet to stumble upon what you were asking. Thanks for your reply to my question though. Tom
  17. Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate your help. I need to pick up some extra cables and try the 5.1 analog inputs at the receiver. I currently have it hooked up to the cd analog inputs. It took a good hour of reading through the manual to see in fine print that the sacd's won't play through the digital input on the receiver, sheesh, I liked the good old days when you could hook the stuff up without the manual. Again, thanks guys for the help. Tom
  18. I recently purchased a Sony DVP-NC650V 5 disc dvd player to replace my dead Sony DVP-C650D player. The new one plays SACD's and came with a sampler cd. It says it is a multichannel disc, does this mean it is surround encoded? If so, how do I get it to play in the surround mode? I have a Marantz SR7000 receiver. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  19. Talktokeith, Did you replace the internal wires in your speakers with Audioquest wire and if so what is the designation name or number of the wire and did this change make any noticible difference as to the sound quality?
  20. What brand of wire gives the best bang for the buck when replacing the stock wire from crossover to drivers? Is the sound improvement worth it?
  21. I'm hoping one of the moderators can provide input on this. Are frequency response curves availible for the KLF10 loudspeakers as well as other models produced so far. There are no formal reviews on the 10's that I know of, and I was wondering if you had some in house data on these. Any info will be appreciated. I'm looking for something other than the usual specs that are in the brochures such as design criteria, listening tests, etc..
  22. Has anyone come across a formal review on the KLF 10's other than the audioreview site?
  23. I'm new to the BB but not to Klipsch. I have recently come back to Klipsh products, KLF 10's. I've owned Forte's and Heresy's in the past. I now have a pair of Definitive BP 2002's for sale if anyone is interested.
