  1. Gary - I have a long list of things to go in my checked baggage. I am hoping it will all fit. [*-)] I'm actually traveling pretty light, especially for a two week trip. I hate the idea of hauling bags around with me wherever I go.
  2. You probably had zero background/environmental noise, which meant they didn't have to be turned up to mask whatever else you could hear. Nice! Bruce
  3. Hmmmm...surely not a toy... Thanks O.B., it looks to be a fun time.
  4. I have almost two pounds of Hershey's Kisses in my suitcase. I just hope it's still there when I arrive. The two of us have a question for you too, but I'll send you a PM about it.
  5. My GF wanted me to bring her a good can opener, and I have always liked the Swing Away. Works extremely well and lasts forever. Can't remember the last time I had to buy one. I scouted around and found some hanging on a rack in a store, but they are now made in....China. Sheeesh! I went ahead an got it, and even though it isn't an exact match, it looks to be ok. She might not be able to find them there. I had asked her if the Wal-Mart there sold stuff made in China. She got quite a laugh out of it. Bruce
  6. and said I was visiting my GF, who is working in China again this year. They asked me to bring them back a souvenir.. and I said "Why don't you just go over to Wal Mart? But really, I leave early Friday morning and can hardly wait. I am flying into Hong Kong, where I'll meet up with the GF, take a hydrofoil ferry across to Macau and spend a couple of days. Macau was a Portuguese colony, and still has a large number of buildings from the 1700-1800 period in Spanish/Portuguese architecture. We will then travel back to the city where she is teaching English (Nanchang). She only has a week off, but we still plan on having a good time. I am addicted to this forum enough that I will still probably check in a couple of times... maybe every day.... or... Bruce
  7. I'm sure that ruined your day. You have to really hate it when something like that happens. I son't suppose there is any kind of warranty on the part... being it is new? Bruce
  8. Yes, the back of them are sealed. They don't need to be, but were designed that way. They are a trapezoid shape. Bruce
  9. Possible, but it would be easier to stuff a rag/towel in the two horns (one at a time), and put your ear up close to the open one to see if they are working. The tweeters won't take a lot of signal through them, and this is always accomplished by the crossover limiting the freq. to the tweeter. Hooking up directly bypasses that and can send high volume bass to them, which is not a good thing. Bruce
  10. Is there a serial number on the cabinet anywhere. Then it could be dated more correctly. Sounds pretty old considering the '58 crossover label and the Stephens woofers. Bruce klipsch_SN_format.pdf
  11. I am in agreement with Paul about listening at lower levels, and personally love the bass coming out of my LS, powered by my 2A3 amps. You can always do a temp fix for the side walls on the original LS using the following (I think Dennis suggested this trick.
  12. I would still go with a Merlin... an exceptional pre for the money. You can add a phone separate later, and knock the socks off of other units. Bruce
  13. Just because they are newer doesn't always mean they are better, but it doesn't automatically mean the old ones (K55) are better. The K55 are really overkill for the Heresy. Bruce
  14. I agree totally. My room and equipment must be a total mess, but I certainly enjoy the music.
  15. You won't FEEL the bass, that's for sure. I have heard of folks putting bass shakers on their chairs for when they wear headphones. Bruce
  16. I was thinking of posting that myself... Thanks [] btw, I think those cabinets are put together with ring nails and glue. You would just about destroy them trying to take them apart. Bruce
  17. My system with the La Scalas has no tone controls (Merlin pre and Moondogs), and I am more than happy with the sound in the room. My Heresies re hooked up to my HK430, and I have the bass up a tittle bit, but only because I have the speakers 30 inches off the floor. That puts the midrage and tweeters about ear level when I am sitting in bed reading or... whatever. Later... John, I still need to get your crossovers back to you... Bruce
  18. Antique Electronic Supply is at http://www.tubesandmore.com
  19. Hope we can keep this on track and keep religion out of it. Have a blessed day!
  20. I believe that your original tweeters had the holes drilled out by a previous owner. Bob's castings match my newer, square magnet tweeters perfectly, and installed in my La Scalas without a hitch with the original screws. Took all of 15 minutes to swap out tweeters in both cabinets. I thought that all of the horns were mounted from behind with screws. It looks like yours mount differently. Nice restoration, though, they really look nice. Bruce
