  1. I have always enjoyed listening to Mark O'Connor, more widely known for his country fiddle playing. He has also written and recorded more classical styled pieces. Whe he came and played his "Fiddle Concerto" (5 movements) with the Chattanooga Symphony he had it plugged in. The main benefit was the slight improvement in gain over the rest of the orchestra. The sound was still very much acoustic. I'm with D-MAN on this, and can't remember anyone specic performer who plays electric violin with an orchestra. Of course most instrument were made amplified to be able to be heard over other instruments. The kalimba or thumb piano being one. You can barely hear it in a room of folks talking. Then the players realized they could change the sound of their intrument and things haven't been the same since.
  2. Doesn't MS Photo Editor come with XP (the OS) or just with MS Office? If you have Photo Editor, you just open the photo and go to the image menu. Under that is resize. If you leave the "allow distortion" box unchecked, as you change oone value the other will change as well. Attached are a couple of screen shots stuck in as one image.
  3. I'm thinking you could resize your pics before uploading them to the server. Or Klipsch could prevent uploads over a certain size. A 1.7 meg jpg is too big. It's nice that their software resizes the pics, but they take forever to load the first time. Making is 600 pixels wide would do wonders for the speed. btw, nice Fisher. Bruce
  4. I have an older Argus that belonged to my wife's father. I will try to get a pic of it and post it. Iis doesn't have the model number on it anywhere, and doesn't have the rounded ends. Pretty neat camera too. Forgot that I have a military camers that uses 70mm roll film. Has a huge Leitz lens.
  5. An 85mm is just about a perfect length for a lens. I had a 1.8/85mm on my old Pentax. Loved that lens, until it got mold growing inside of it. []
  6. Can't exactly hold them in your hands like that once they get bigger. Just like your own kids. []
  7. Nikon FM2 Graflex form WWII that uses a smaller than 4x5 sheet film (I don't remember, and haven't used it in over 20 yrs.) Kodak folder from early last century. The leather is coming off of both of the old ones.
  8. I just ran across this while looking for something else and just thought I would pass it on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5804074338
  9. Yeah, that info is ALL Dennis' fault! [] Credit must go where credit is due.
  10. Dean, Dennis posted two things: For an HII (to smooth out the midrange): in series with a cap the same value as the one across the woofer and wire an L-pad (terminals 2 and 3) in series with that. Place the LCR trap in parallel with the woofer. Start out with the L-pad at max resistance (full CCW). Play pink noise through the system and adjust the L-pad untill the 'howl' in the midrange goes away. Replace the L-pad with a fixed resistor of the same value. The wire gauge of this inductor is not important. If you have replaced the stock inductor with a high-zoot one, use the stock one in the LCR trap. Woofer change for Heresy: "on sale at parts express right now. should be close enough" It's not really like either the old or new Delta 12LF, but it is a good driver. In a Heresy box it will be 96dB/2.83V and -5dB at 80hz with a Qtc=0.5, good for home theater with the 'small' setting. With a 4" dia vent 6.5" long it will be -5dB at 45hz. It will be capable of at least 6dB more output below 100hz than a stock Heresy woofer. The current Delta 12LF is 98dB/2.83V and can be vented to be -5dB at 50hz or 70hz sealed and stuffed with a Qtc=0.577 (best transient response of the sealed alignments). The T2A is tapped at 98dB with the old Heresy.
  11. I wish you lived closer to me. I would just about give you a Hallicrafters SX-62 I have. It needs a lot of work. I don't know if it would be worth the trouble or not. There's more metal in it than there is in my daughter's car. I think it weighs more too. Bruce
  12. Those will probably end up going for some serious cash. Some of the JBL folks like the tweeter in the L300 (2405) better than the 2404 you guys have been using. It's a little more discreet as well. Actually extend a tad bit higher too. Bruce
  13. 6foot8, You went through this yourself when you first got here too. How is your system working out now that you've had it going for a while? My rooms are too small for anything that large, but it must be great for the movie experience. I always try to be nice. Bruce
  14. Audio recording (multitrack stuff), guitar playing (acoustic/lap steel/dobro).
  15. Some have asked me to post the progress on my wife Barbara's fight with Melanoma. She started treatment at Emory U. Hospital on Tuesday. She has had five doses/bags of IL-2, an immuno-therapy drug. Administered every eight hours. Today she is beginning to swell, due to a side effect of the treatment. All the capillaries leak fluid. Maximum number in one cycle is 14 doses/bags. Most don't ever get that far. She is becoming nauseous as well, so is finding it hard to eat. Blood pressure keeps dropping too low so they could stop the treatment. They try to counteract all the side effects as quickly as possible. She would start another round 21 days from the start of the first. Then they would do more scans to see if it is working at all. If not, they will stop the treatment. Otherwise they keep going. Support at the hospital has been great, as well as the prayers and support from all our friends and family, the Klipsch forum members included. She will probably be there over Labor Day, but home after that, to recoup for the next round. Then she will again enjoy the fabulous music coming through the Merlin (had to get that in [] ). She likes it a lot. Later guys. We're praying for all the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi. Got friends there too. Makes you realize you aren't the center of the universe. Bruce
  16. I would be more interested in the transformers, but that isn't going to happen. And Mac doesn't have any for repairs or replacements. [] Bruce
  17. Piranha, You can use mineral spirits for the first coat, or first couple. The thinner first coat will penetrate a bit more. I do the same when I use poly, so there is more saturation. It isn't necessary though. Bruce
  18. Michael, Not giving you grief. I just know that Yamaha does some things the same way HP does for printers. Sometimes the same features and functionality gets sold to different markets under different names or models. There are some differences. No arguement there. My son (Invideosulus) has an HTR and likes it a lot. We got some to use at work as well, having gotten them at BB. The price was sure right. Bruce
  19. I can almsot guarantee the crossovers in the 4311s need to be 'freshened'. Removing them won't be real easy. I was going to pull mine out, but the woofers are 'stuck' a bit. The crossovers have screws holding them in place, located behind the thin aluminum 'foilcal' on the front. Fortunately, the aluminum is now loose on mine. The adhesive kinda gave way a long time ago. Just haven't wanted to mess with getting the woofers loose. If anyone needs the tech sheet on the crossover I can post it here. Bruce
  20. AF, The 6L6 has 30 watts of plate dissipation. An EL34 is only rated for 25 watts. I have been told that the 6L6 can have a more recessed midrange, but Mark has pointed out that the rest of the circuit is the rest of the story. [] Bruce
  21. Michael, YOU are beating up on the HTR series. They are not the same because they have different 'features'. Yamaha says the amplifiers ARE the same. * Yamaha isn't making it up. I almost never use eq on my system. I haven't brought home an RTA, although I could borrow one from work. I haven't ever disliked the way any of my systems have sounded, but adusted the room to make it work (and not much at that). * You could make the same comparison with different brands of computers too. Compare an IBM desktop with a Dell. The Dell is in a case that is plastic and not metal. It flexes and bends when you move it. Which computer is better? They may be functionally the same, but I woudl take the IBM (now Lenovo). You would take the RXV line of Yamahas. But Yammy says the AMP is the same.
  22. Other than the fact that you would have to have them shipped across the country, Freezin has a nice pair of Heresy IIs for sale. My HIIs are great. With good equipment, there is plenty of tight, solid bass as well. Bruce
  23. They can be adjusted to have a flatter eq, and the pads for the mid and tweeter should NOT bet set to the middle. I can't remember the exact positions, but the guys on the Lansing Heritage forum would know. It's true they aren't stereo speakers (whatever that means). They are accurate speakers. Are you saying your stereo speakers aren't accurate? Maybe the forward mids is why my wife always liked them (still likes them). She even turned the mids up a little more, but I tended to find them a little harder to take that way. Cal, I didn't think those had foam surrounds. My 4311s do not. They have a black rubbery material over the accordian surrounds. Still very pliable after 33+ years. But they have always been inside. The white coating is called aquaplas. Great drivers with huge magnets on them. Bruce
  24. They won't sound like Cornwalls or KHorns, but they are nice speakers. Just depends on your use for them. My 4311s were $329 each in '72. Can't believe the wife let me get them. We didn't make dirt back then. Styxx borrowed them to use for reference at the studio I bought them through. All the studio had was some big EV models and they weren't familiar with them. Bruce
  25. WRT, I have some 4311s, the 'Pro' version of the L100 Century models. Classic JBL is wonderful gear. The 4311s didn't come in stereo pairs, meaning they aren't mirrored. Still can't tell the difference though. They make great compression drivers and woofers. They are also very pricey. L100s would be about the same size as a pair of Heresys. They are three ways, and the sound is comparable (I'll get hit for that). Considering the L100s are all direct radiators, that is saying something. The midrange tends to break up a bit (5 inch DR) if driven heard. Lots of albums mixed on the 4311s. Have a pair of L46 models in the house as well. They are two ways with an 8 inch woofer. Great little speakers. Had some L56 models here for a while, but gave them back to the owner who hadn't been using them (I repaired the surrounds on them for him). They are owned by Harman now. Makers of everything. Still, the good JBL stuff is very good. Bruce
