  1. Remember when all the audio gear was silver /champagne, etc. Sure makes it easier to read the lettering compared to having everything black. All mine is balck, and I keep a small flashlight next to the gear so I can read everything. My studio rack has a Furman power conditioner and light unit (with dimmer), which works nicely. Mixing black and silver -- is that like having red wine and chicken? Marvel
  2. The drawings! A good idea to have them. The only critical thing is that you get to the woofer by taking off the bottom. Otherwise, you get the impression that you need a big hammer to get to it. Marvel
  3. Premiere came with an MPEG encoder (they license the Main Concept encoder as a plugin), plus I won a copy of Canopus ProCoder. The longest thing I've done is about an hour and forty minutes of completed video.
  4. Hi Tom, Welcome to the forum. I didn't want you to feel like we were all ignoring you. I'm afraid that I only have Heresys, but someone else should chime in with a good answer for you soon. Marvel
  5. Linux, that user surly software! I've been trying to get Ardour (audio editing) working on a linux box off and on for weeks. Even with its faults, it's no wonder MS does so well. What linux distro are you using? Marvel
  6. I never collected too many Christian albums. I think I still have my first, "Andre Crouch-Live at Carnegie Hall" and a gift from a former singer in Truth. It is a studio album, straight to the lacquer. That means each side straight through with no stopping. It's pretty amazing. Marvel
  7. Mostly fun. I have made a tiny bit of money with them. I worked in TV news in a former life, shooting 16mm FILM. Right when they got the cameras small enough for me to handle easily, they switched to video. The big separate deck and camera connected with a cable was about too much for me. About three years ago a faculty member asked if I could help him do some teaching videos. He bought the software for me, I built the computer. He never got the job done. I re-edited the video for the school's presidential inauguration and they put in on a DVD (it really isn't very good as someone shot it for archival purposes and then they wanted to USE it). I pretty much go for straight shots, cut and dissolves. I hate page curls and all that silly stuff. But that's just me. I helped the film club at the college where I work. Did the music for it, and edited some of the titles and inserted an animation sequence my son did for it. == Depending on how complicated you want to get, probably either of those packages would work for you. I assume your camera has a firewire connector. If so, you will need a firewire port in the PC (duh!), but a $25 card will do for that. If you look at Pyro cards, they have bundles that include the card and software. Many different price ranges, depending mostly on the software. http://www.videoguys.com/pyro.htm I was subscribing to Videomaker, which is a great little mag. THe ads are worth a lot. Good tutorials and hints. Even getting good info once every couple of issues can be worth it. Or... (will this never end?), browse to the DMN Forums and pick the software you are interested in and lurk (just like you do here!): http://www.dmnforums.com {edit} Removed references to Avid's free software, since, for the money the Adobe and Sony software has way more real features. Marvel
  8. fini, I have Adobe Premier 6.5, and would switch to the new one if I had XP on the computer. Sony's offerings are great, IMHO, and the smaller packages you mention are also good. Sony is supporting Sonic Foundry's products since the purchase and that bodes well for all end users. I have used Vegas, again the big daddy, and find it as capable as Adobe's product. The interfaces are a bit different between the two. What is your inteded use? Obviously to edit video, but to what degree? Most of these guys have demos you can install and try out. Adobes products are usually fully functional for 30 days, and Sony's works but you can't save (real PITA). Depending on what you edit, a 60-80 second drive would be a good idea. I have a 60 Gig for a second drive in my video editing PC. Marvel
  9. Greg, Other than the money, the extreme slope crossovers from Al might be in order, it you could get the crossover freq. right. Maybe try a 3 way electronic crossover to get a better idea (most of those are only 24db/octave though). Those really look great. Marvel
  10. Paul, Where have you been? Kinda quiet around here these days. My vet told me last year that he was taking my dog off his list to send out notices about shots. He said then that he might not be with us long. We have a Golden that is now 12 yrs old. Still fighting a bad case of Malassezia. Finally finding a good food for him has helped a lot. Marvel
  11. Rick, THose are 1/4 inch phone jacks, not phono jacks. Sheesh! I had to enlarge the pic too, just to see clearly enough. Those cabinets don't look to be in too bad a condition. They should fix up very nicely. Marvel

I have a few other amps besides my (formerly) ST-70 that I am sure are better amps. But I'll keep the tube amp nonetheless. That's also why I have more than one guitar. Marvel
  13. Most of the foam earplugs are brightly colored so the safety mananger at a plant can tell you are wearing them. I have a friend who always drives with his windows down, and mentioned to him that it will kill his hearing. After he thought about it a minute, he agreed, and that damage was already done. Marvel
  14. Dean, Very interesting article. I'm tempted to copy it and save for future reference. Marvel
  15. My oldest son went to school at Full Sail in Orlando, learning graphic design. Their placement counselor/director made the statement to all the students there that even though your education and skills are important, it is still important who you know. I have read about this in the music indistry, the film industry and so on. Almost any job -- the contacts you have are important.

Or just the one who posted this thread and an a buddy of his. He did not specify the "We". ---------------- The Catholic Church has always held that the pope is the earthly head of all Christians, whether or not those of other traditions believed so or not. I used to be Presbyterian, and the pope would have considered himself the head of my church as well. Marvel
  17. I thought I asked this, but does anyone have a broken/cracked 511B they would give up (like free)? It doesn't matter if it is worthless to you, I have a project in mind. Marvel
  18. And make a left and a right version too, so they are mirror images. Marvel
  19. Michael, John Paul I was elected pope when he was 66. He died 33 days after being elected pope. Conspiracy theories abound, and some say he was poisoned. Whatever the cause, John Paul II, his immediate successor, brought his own cooks with him from Poland. And Tom made a great observation, although he probably didn't realize it. These men are all still human, and suffer all the foibles that that would bring to the office. Most of what they say is personal opinion and not considered 'infallible'. Marvel
  20. And... the Cardinals usually elect another Cardinal, but they don't have to. They could elect your small town parish priest. He would then be ordained a bishop, before assuming the role of pope.

  22. That was his job -- defend what the Church teaches. I didn't think they would pick him. We can only hope they heard the Holy Spirit.
  23. Hard part will be mounting the driver tightly without breaking the horn. Does anyone have a 511B that is not usable (cracked, too many broken parts of the mounting flange) that they would be willing to offer up for dissecting? I have some ideas that I am working on, but I need the horn to take apart. Marvel
  24. On her newest album she has teamed up woth Hazlewood again. He's in his 70s. I never liked her when I was in high school, but I have come to appreciate a lot of artists and the engineering and arranging that went into their albums. Marvel
  25. Most of the built in audio chipsets are awful. If it is only a mic input, you can wire up about a 30 db pad to get things more in range. If your laptop has a usb port, you can get something like an Edirol usb audio interface. They start around $70 though. You can find some (Terratec) that have a phono pre as well on them, so you can do LPs without using your stereo gear. Marvel
