  1. Frode, I have another drawing on the 2 channel, under the subject heading , that has the drawing of this in the top of the LS. DJK pointed out on one thread that with the K33, this would do 31Hz -3db. Do let us know more of your experiments. Marvel
  2. Kenratboy, Sorry, it isn't in AutoCad. I did it in trueSpace, which AC can't read. I can save as a dxf, but don't know how well it actually works. I could send you a dxf, but then you might see just how inaccurate my drwing is. I had tried to get dxf files of the actual components (woofer/mid horn and driver and tweeter and driver), as I have a freeware utility to convert to a format I can use. Haven't found any yet. Perhaps Trey could get me some. They could be pretty generic really. It will take me a couple of days to get to it, so be patient. The first thing I ever do when someone gives me a jpg is to save it as a tif, and blow it up about 400 - 800 percent. Then tweak a little. Then scaling it back down it actually looks cleaner. It isn't always, sometimes it is just a waste of disk space and time. Marvel
  3. Mark, I think that Tung oil actually dries to a harder, less porous finish. Which would probably give a bit more gloss and seal the wood more. Marvel
  4. 1. I own a a pair of 1989 Heresy IIs. 2. I got them as a birthday present last week. 3. Just turned 54. 4. Price, size, sound. 5. LaScalas, I don't have corners for the Khorn, or more Heresies. 6. Sure.
  5. I wanted to model the woofer/mid/tweeter too, but don't have good measurements. If someone had those out of the cabinets and could do a top/side/front, etc. photos it would be awesome. The cabinet was pretty easy to do, being slabs of plywood. Tell me what resolution you would like them in. Maybe I can stick some up on a web page for folks to download. Marvel
  6. Tony, Is this the one you want? http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/files/ls_k.jpg Marvel
  7. Tony, This should work. If you want me to email these to you I can, but I have the originals at home. I can change the rotation as well. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=36054&forumID=68&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={34561A25-18B3-4AC8-98B9-5E3CEAB651BA} If this link doesn't work, do a search for my name under 2 channel. The subject is "for all the LaScala fans Marvel
  8. Both sets of my JBLs are walnut, but I have to admit that the smaller size of the Heresys looks good with the black. They almost disappear in the room. Marvel
  9. My bookshelves were very easy to make, just 3/4 ply 12 inches deep. I have two over my computer setup. One shelf holds my Alesis Monitor Ones. I bet you meant building bookshelf speakers! Cool. Marvel
  10. Reverb has two basic components -- the first being the delay, or time from the original signal., which indicates the size of the room. A longer delay means a bigger room. The second is the amount of repeats, partly indicating the hardness of the reflecting surfaces )stone, drywall, carpet, and the rate of decrease in the reflections gives us the reverb sound. Marvel
  11. Glad it was something that simple. That is a great Dead album, BTW. Got me to like a like a lot of their material. Marvel
  12. Gary, Very nice amps. I found the site on the next a couple of weeks ago and read through most of the copy. Soldering things that require more hear can be problematic. I used to do repair on three phase motor controllers, and some things were easy with the temp contolled stations we had. On some connections you needed to pull out the big gun!. The temp controlled station makes a big difference when soldering though, especially on the smaller stuff. Marvel
  13. Can you pull the tweeter out of the cabinet and make sure nothing has gotten around the cone? And make sure there is not a speaker lead up against it (not seen how the tweeter is made on the backside), to vibrate at that frequency. I had a wire buzzing against a cone once. Pretty annoying. Congrats as well. Marvel
  14. Is this the way you have been listening to them, to compare the two? I would flip the Corns over, so that the mid/tweeter are lower, and more in line with your ears if this is the case. That will also put them on the outside (left/right). They would be pretty high the way they are shown. Still can't believe how huge those boxes are! Marvel
  15. Vifa makes some excellent stuff. I was looking at that same tweeter today, as a possible replacement and modification on an old pair of JBLs I own. They are two ways, crossed at 2.2k, and there are NO mids at all. These speakers were given to me, so I don't know what kind of abuse they got. Some folks have used one of the vifa tweeters as a replacement in the Alesis Monitor One speaker, saying it works better. Wish I could remember which one it was myself, as I have a pair of those as well (they don't need repair, but you never know). Marvel
  16. It's because you're in Virginia and the file can't make it up over the mountains to the Klipsch server. I had trouble with my dialup connection, but not much now that I've switched to dsl. That still isn't too big a file for upload. Are you having the trouble all the time, or at certain times of the day? Marvel
  17. ---------------- On 7/2/2003 7:20:17 PM marksdad wrote: dont mean to argue, but even the solder creates unwanted resistance, neat yes, but resistance. i am an electrician, and we got away from solder along time ago for splicing, 1 reason was because it sometimes started fires, you would not be pushing enough to start a fire, just an example of resistive heating ---------------- The resistance in the amount of solder for the speaker wire connections is going to be pretty negligible isn't it? The resistance coefficient for lead IS higher than copper, but we're not talking feet.It this was the case, your whole preamp/amp design would have to be altered. If you could show data that proves your case, that would be awesome, but I don't think you will find it readily available. I use 2percent silver on most of my connections (better still than 60/40/ solder). Did the electricians start the fires of the circuit in use? Marvel
  18. Griff, Yup, I figured that out as you were posting. However, how does one reconcile the fact that all of the wavelength calculators are (mostly) concerning radio waves, not being tranmitted through wire, but through air? Then using these calculations for the design/size of an antenna to match the wavelength of the freq. to be "captured" and demodulated into something we can hear, i.e., an FM stations on 88.1 Mhz has an 88.1 Mhz carrier, to modulate the audio being broadcast. Our receivers demodulate that, stripping out the 88.1 Mhz freq, leaving us with he audio we want. I guess this gives the answer to why speaker manufacturers move the individual components of a cabinet to time align them instead of hocus pocus wiring schemes. Audio freq. in air are easier to adjust time wise than while going through the copper. Still, you move your head two inches and it might not matter much. Marvel
  19. Okay, I have made serious blunders here before (Ray might remember a long time ago), but I have two different charts for calculating wavelengths and they both give the same results. It is a simple formula really, but I get a lot shorter values than what's posted above. Both give the same results. 100 Hz = 138 in 10kHz = 1.38 in So where do the miles come in? added: I may have just answered my own question. This is the wavelength of these frequencies in air at 70 degrees C (one chart says F) at sea level. Marvel
  20. I know two different organizations with two different Mackie mixers. Both have had mic inputs go dead on them. On one of them, Mackie couldn't figure out what was wrong. JBL in Japan still makes the 4412 series (I think that is the model, I've lost the link). I haven't heard any of their newer stuff, but Harman owns almost everything: AKG AMEK CROWN International DBX Digitech Infinity JBL Lexicon Mark Levinson Revel Soundcraft Studer And others. Just because they own JBL isn't the problem. Marvel
  21. Mark1101, A good way to make a splice is to cut your wire as shown in the diagram (especially good if doing power cables). The wires overlap this way. There is a bit of an art to it, but you can put heat shrink over each conection and then a larger piece over the whole thing. It makes it very neat this way. You should twist the stripped ends together before soldering. Marvel
  22. I you let McIntosh know, they say they will send you the manual. http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/ Marvel
  23. You don't want to trade your kids. Keeping them is the only real way to get even. Andy, I finally fixed the power on light on an old JVC amp I have had for 30+ years. The original lamp was an incandescent, so I figured out how to put an led in it. Now my number two son can tell he hasn't turned it off. Pretty easy to fix. This SS amp has a 6.3 volt secondary on the PT. Very interesting. The light was the only thing on there. I just added a current limiting resistor and the led. That Marantz looks very clean. Marvel
  24. garymd, You were only 13 at that show! That makes ME feel old. I saw the Moody Blues by that time, Albert King, Edgar Winter. For the older guys I can also say that by that time I had already seen Eddie Arnold, Peter/Paul and Mary, the Kingston Trio, John Sebastian, Mickey Dolenz (press pass for that, I wouldn't have paid), Brewer and Shipley, Waylon Jennings. Probably more that my brain can't remember for some reason. More current lineups have been Bela Fleck, Wolfestone, Turtle Island String Quartet and other free shows put on through the summer in Chattanooga. Marvel
  25. DBvader, I assume you mean for pair? $200 would be a bit light. The Mackies will be hard to get for that. I have the Alesis Monitor One, the model that isn't the actives. The Monitor One Mark II is good for the money. The actives would be easier. The Events are also a good speaker. My mixes done on my Alesis sound very, very close when played back on my JBL4311 set. Amazing when the JBLs have a 12 inch and the ALesis have a 6.5 inch woofer. I would love a pair of 4412s, but they are through the roof now. Maybe the Mackie 824 actives, but that is also way more money. Marvel
