elninoloco - your room looks great! Between 9.2 and the acoustic treatments - I imagine your room sounds immersive and clean! Nice work! Do you have treatments behind your curtain or does the curtain take up enough echo?

Well the budget won't work - I was going to say for other readers - I have heard a demo of the Klipsch SB 3 and if I had to go with a soundbar, it's fantastic! The sub isn't going to dislodge fillings, but the sound is remarkably immersive and bang for the buck is definitely up there! It has a wow factor, which to me is saying something for a soundbar. The bar connects via one cable to the tv, the sub is wireless so for the average consumer it's convenient and sounds great. I was genuinely impressed with it, I would be happy to own one. Most bars sound to me about as quality as something you'd get for a prize with a kids meal. The SB 3 is clean and distortion free even at high volumes (signature Klipsch).

Does the RC 64 ever struggle to keep up with the FOUR RF 83's?! [] (with enough power to run a small city no less) Did you buy or build your acoustic panels?

Thanks for the replies! dimanata - this is off of a daylight basement so the existing wall is largely opposite an open room which will be a kids playroom. There is a bedroom on the otherside as well but it will be a guest room. There is a furnace room that will be in that corner of the addition as well (opposite the bedroom). Great idea for a second wall - even though the existing is an 8 inch wall - no separation will certainly equal sound bleed. Thankfully it will be to a fairly open area and we have a door we can close to the basement. It will be better than average but not near the link Tasdom posted on the architectural page! My goal is to wire for 9.2. Eventually I'd like to add RB 81 ii's for rear surrounds and front highs & a second SW 115. I love seeing everyone else's set ups and how they are overcoming challenges on this forum. Thanks again for the feedback!

Tasdom, Thank you for the reply - that's a great build! They didn't spare a thing - the sand in the stage is a great idea - I doubt I will have that... for now... I may be able to approach the topic later but with a new kitchen & master bed/bath being added, I need to be patient and bide my time! The studs. Staggered studs are very effective for thermal insulation as well. Important in Alaska!

The white wall is quadlock foam filled with concrete and has earth on the other side. Noise for the neighbors will not be a big issue. I realize none of these comments line up with the pics :-S The door to the existing house is under the vapor barrier.

The window will be framed in once the furnace and drywall are in.

We are putting a new addition on the house and I will be getting a semi dedicated theater room! It will still have weights/treadmill/elliptical in the back. The dimensions are roughly 23' x 24' minus a small furnace room and wall materials. For sound insulation we were going to have two layers of drywall with green glue, but due to time, money and weight consideration we have changed course. The ceiling will be suspended on a track and the walls will have staggered studs. We are going to have insulation in the ceiling & walls as well as a layer of soundboard. It will be a forced air furnace and hope to have a dedicated line for this room. Anyone with soundproofing experience, I appreciate your input. I know there is a sacrifice by not going the green glue route, but I have been told that decoupling the room is probably the most signifcant first step in noise reduction. I am going to try to post a few pics taken from my iPhone using the panoramic feature. I promise the boards are straighter than that. :-) The bracing is also temporary until some materials are moved from the floor above.

The "untrackable hum" is one of life's most annoying occurrences! Glad you were able to track it down!

I think you'll love the RB 81, the RS 52 is a great surround speaker, I would prefer position 2 for your right surround (just my opinion), and a few inches/cm above your ears is usually the recommended position. That will be a nice sounding system in your room! Will you be using a subwoofer also? Enjoy! Dave
