  1. I would like to start doing a little homework on projection TVs and was wondering what might be some good places to start studying? Any suggestions?
  2. I agree with Jim. You will notice a huge difference in Dolby Digital and DTS with Heresys in the rear. Also, and this is right out of the HornED playbook, the most important speaker in the whole configuration is the center. I think many of us build a system around our main speakers. I started this way and bought an inexpensive center. Before I even hooked it up I bought an Academy based on comments in this forum. It was good advice. The Academy matches up quite well with my Heresys. Anyway, I would start with the rears first, then upgrade the center to better match the Las, then save for a couple years and get a HGS-18 or SVS ultra. Your space is fairly big and the Las need something fast. Good luck. Dan
  3. I seem to recall reading somewhere in this forum, a formula for proper separation distance. Of course I dont remember it!! I also seem to remember proper toe-in stated as 15 degrees +/- 3 degrees or something like that. Have fun with the new Corns. Dan
  4. First of all, another brilliantly thought out and brilliantly composed response by HornEd. I just wanted to comment that I LOVE my little timbre-matched system. I have a small group of friends that gets together once per month for the Movie Of The Month Club. We take turns hosting and its a great way to get together and a great way to check out different approaches to HT. Recently I had one of the members over for a couple of beers and to watch a couple of DVDs. His comment to me after watching to Blade II at what must have been refernce level was "You've ruined movie night!" My response was "I guess you're going to have to upgrade" Thanks again to HornEd Dan
  5. The concensus in here(and I can attest to the results) is to try to stick with the same family of speakers at the very least. Ideally, all speakers in the array would be identical but obviously there can be financial considerations or space constraints. Good luck and welcome. Dan
  6. I have neither but from what I have read here it seems that the RSW-15 may have a slight edge in music and a decided advantage in appearance. The SVS dual Ultra set-up is apparently better at loosening floorboards while in HT use. It seems that the Klipsch covers the musical spectrum quite nicely but falls off a bit in the HT-important 18-30 Hz range. Again these are just my observations from roaming aroung in here. Good luck with whatever you decide, they are both high quality subs. Dan
  7. Jmon, I agree that this was one of those "once in a lifetime" deals. I like things pretty loud when watching DVDs and this thing matches up really well with my Heresys. Although on one occasion about 2-3 weeks ago, I had a friend over and we started watching Blade II followed by The Matrix. The quantity of beer may have had something to do with it but the volume got a little away from me and the PE amp temporarily cut out on me. Its fine now, but it alerted me to the fact that the amp has limits. Anyway, I love that thing even though it takes up a lot of space in the front of the room. On another note, I think the way JBL measured freq response etc is unique to equipment intended for commercial or theater applications. I certainly dont feel like I am missing any of the thunder during on-screen explosions. Anyway, congrats and enjoy. Dan
  8. It probably boils down to stuff you already know in your heart. IOW, how much can I spend and how much bass is enough? The room is pretty big and I would say (based only on what I have read here) that the 10 is probably not going to cut it. Good luck in your efforts and let us know what you decide. Dan
  9. Sean, Have you thought of swapping the position of the LaScala with the SVS? It seems like dedicated HT rooms have the front mains closely flanking the screen anyway. That may very well subdue any screen fluttering from air movemcnt. Just a thought. BTW, great looking (and sounding, I'm sure)theater!! Dan
  10. Jim, I LOVE my heritage sound. I put most of this system together sort of a la carte ( 1 pair of Heresys and the Academy are used) but it sounds pretty impressive at -10!! Dan
  11. But if his TV viewing is unaffected then the problem must not be the speaker wires or the house voltage. It seems as though its either in the DVD or maybe the default settings within the receiver while the DVD is selected. I'm not exactly a whiz with this stuff but thats where I would begin. Good luck. Dan
  12. Thats a great idea. I have orchestrated a Movie Of The Month Club with my brother,a cousin, and a couple of friends and its a great idea to invite neighbors over on movie night. I didnt on Saturday night with Blade2 and The Matrix at pretty high SPLs. I bet the neighbors were cursing me. Oh well.
  13. ummm This is the home theater forum isnt it???
  14. I believe that the purpose of separate terminals is to allow "bi-amping" the speaker. I gather from this forum, from those that seem to know a little more than I do, that the jury is still out regarding the true audio value of this bi-amping arrangement. I would think that Klipsch can send you a replacement part. Good luck and welcome. Dan
  15. Thats funny...I cant seem to get enough blaring in my face
  16. Moody, You will probably not be disappointed with any of the brands mentioned here. I would suggest that if possible, go ahead and get a good sub and a good center channel speaker even if it means waiting on the surround speakers. The front 3 and sub are crucial to your a/v experience. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Dan
  17. Here Here Huhuhu... I second that motion. Boa has taught us all a thing or three. Dan

  19. Dan Dischiavo Utica, NY Age 39 My brother, cousin and I have set up a Movie Of The Month Club where we take turns hosting recently released DVDs. Its an absolutely great way to ensure getting together with friends and family ( we invite a group of 6-10 ) on a regular basis and it gives some of us a chance to really show off our stuff. My brother has LaScala mains, SVS sub and some smaller Klipsch speaks for center and rears. My poor cousin went with Bo$e...he's a little embarassed. Anyway, the Movie Of The Month Club has turned out to be a great idea.
  20. Yesfan, If surround music is a priority, it would seem that fronts and rears should match identically. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Dan

  22. Sean...that setup is so sweet. How did you do the Las? Got pics?
  23. Thanks Clu...updated for now
  24. OrangePeel, I think if you set speaks to large it does not cross-over at all...ie full spectrum is sent to mains. I have the AVR 500 and will now investigate whether my cross-over is adjustable or not.
  25. Avman, Great avatar!! Is there a way to get my old avatar back until I find one that I really like?
