  1. I thank you. I have been reading this forum since i began using tube amplifiers and 1 thing i have noticed is that the people who own gear from your likes solid state and tube have not switched their gear in the years up to now and do not see that to change. That means a lot. Its nice to get to the point where your no longer looking for upgrades and you have did this for more than any other i have seen. That does make you the keeper of the sound.
  2. that frenzel guy looks like a clean builder. there was an st70 in columbus ohio a couple months ago i wanted to buy but he wouldnt budge off $500. the st70 i had i bought 15months ago from a local shop for $380 out the door in good working order. i sold to a freind for $400. i have a scott 299 that is very comparable now. its hard to chose 1 over the other but i prolly liked the st70 most just for simplicity but then again the tone controls are nice on the scott. I also liked with my st70 at the time i had 3 amps with el34 tubes and i had a bunch. I do like my 299 and its el84's but i think i like it cause they are more sought after and will sell well. I gotta mention Mark. The yaqin10T is 45watts my 10L is said to be 52 watts. The guy that modded one of my 10L rated it at 60 watts per ch. The china amps are ok but i will be getting something along your lines one day. the juicy blueberry that was just sold the guy selling out for now bless him it was so frustrating not having the cash to buy at that time. It was the best priced preamp i think i will see for a while. I wanted to buy it so bad then it was gone for a quarter of its value or less.
  3. I have to admit mark deneen knows his stuff much beyond many of us. Mark is the one to follow instructions from here. If you do spend under a grand its likely a mid fi choice. If the op can hold on and save up the direction that Mark D sends you in will result very good. Im only several years into tube amps and expressed my tube journey up to now.
  4. Im a black finish guy although i love your 92's. Sorry about your choice man. It has gotta be tough. Could be sell them at buyers choice
  5. I love my subs. If i did not have big bass in my life in the form of a very low frequency bass driver/s i would not sleep tight till i got some. I'm very serious
  6. Another great tube amp to start with is a yaqin mc10L. For under $600 its very nice although no phono in/out. You can roll the tubes and upgrade the power cord for another $200 later if you like it. I have had scotts, dynacos, knights and heard mcintosh up to $100K tube amps in controlled demos and although the high dollar tube amplifiers may tickle your ears or make you smile just a bit more a starting point is what you are looking for. I say to you the yaqin 10L because its has tons of usable power and i know and have seen several people go from a dynaco 70's wanting more power to the yaqin 10L and are very happy. Another great beginner tube unit would be a choice of yours in the jolida line. I started out with a knight and still have a couple. They are 12x12 and i have played them against 200x200 watt ss power amps in my setting and like a magnet i still pull towards the 12x12 tube. Its simply true hi fidelity that many people describe as magical. Vacuum tube amps are so fine at reproducing sound. Good luck with your venture and have fun.

    I like it!

will you discount a multiple purchase, i'll try 5 for now
  8. this is extremely upsetting. i cannot imagine how you k763, mrs k and anyone else close to to proceedings feel. i truly cannot express my feelings. is this still due to the citys inner circle?
  9. Yes the Tandberg was the finest i have heard as well. I have a freind well into his 80's who collects reel to reel machines and i have made some very long drives to pick up some in particular for him and his collection. Still at his age he takes some of the nicest equipment i have seen and mods and rebuilds in great detail. I have no idea about these machines other than how to use one although sound quality from the Tandberg and i dont remember the model was very good.

    Yep!

    hahahahahahhahaahhahahahahaha
  11. Separation and imaging sounds like you read my mind on your description. I know people that prefer one over the other and in my solid state 2ch system i prefer xlr when can be used whether just from eq to xover to amp or from cd player all the way to amp.
  12. beeker

    Yep!

keep em coming. lol these are so true and funny and no i am not on assistance. god bless those who are
  13. In my home/pro solid state 2 ch system i prefer in order from least to most preferred and can hear the difference in a huge way. Least imo is hdmi, optical, rca, xlr...Balanced xlr results in best sound quality. Xlr provides such strong signals i can sit directly in front of my left speaker and hear my right speaker and vice versa at high and low volume levels. With rca i can a bit at high volumes although not near as clearly
  14. Roberts was the name of the best reel machine i used. Also known as akai. Im in my 30's and have found, learning the hard way the more you spend buying a reel to reel from someone you trust is best. A lot of "nice looking PARTS UNITS" out there.
  15. beeker

    Yep!

pass me the beer nuts lol
  16. Steely Dan does have certain elements that make listening enjoyable. Steely Dan seems to be one of my easiest musical choices
  17. Or like some of us when i think of a great looking speaker i immediately think of a heresy. h3 is a gorgeous example specially in black
  18. how ever loud my lovely mrs.beeker allows. aint much usually. i caught a reading on my meter with my chorus ii the other day at 116db and was crystal clear. it is very very loud at about 7ft from the speakers. really tho it depends on what im listening too. about 85 db average i would say
  19. pro jbl arrays show similarities mostly in the mid. i have seen this speaker im really weird tho so it will take a long time likely til i remember
