  1. Try these: http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Paper-Backed-Ebony-Veneer-Macassar-4-x-8.html http://www.veneeronline.com/folio.aspx http://www.oakwoodveneer.com/ http://www.marwoodveneer.com/index.html http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/hardwoods/exotic_hardwoods/exotic_wood/snakewood_lumber/snakewood.html They are in NO particular order. That should be enough to keep you busy for a week. W. C.
  2. You are not buying from Buy.com, you are buying from Studio 7 LLC. Buy.com is a clearing house for sellers much like Pricewatch.com and others. I doubt that Studio 7 is an authorized dealer/seller for Klipsch. Check Klipsch's main site for a list of authorized dealers.
  3. They say "24 K Gold Plated" of which I doubt very seriously......! The barrells are more than likely common brass, and I mean common. Probably just enough brass in the mixture to barely conduct. Copper would be to soft of a material to use as in "solid". Coming out of Honh Kong, you can bet that it is a very cheap copy of a quality Nakamichi Banana Plug.
  4. The funny thing about the CD Transport.....It is out of a $50.00 Bom Box. Sometimes you find the best in the cheapest, even though he probably invested 10K for all the other components that make it work. His work is truly amazing. There are several other links to his work and I will see if i can find them.
  5. Didn't know where else to post this but I thought it may interest a few DIY's like myself. This is totally for anyone that is interested in DIY equipment whether it be speakers or equipment. I ran across this guy (Erik) the other day when I was researching a WAD 300B PP kit (my first dive into tubes) and his stuff is soooooo far over the top it just takes your breath away. The craftsmanship that he puts into each piece he builds is purely incredible. IMO he goes way to fay on many things that most consider negligible to the sound quality but if money is NO object in a build, he certainly achieves that! http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11349 Be patient and scroll down through the threads and you will start to see what he is doing, starting with a speaker build. Hr is purely a craftsman with wood and metal and uses the best that can be purchased for the internal workings. Enjoy....!
  6. Shameless BUMP I really really need a couple of sets of these.....!
  7. Sean, It indicates which way they would be turned for the Horinzontal position, so that when you lay them on their side, they would not be upside down. Tthe tweeter and swaker should be on the high side of the cabinet rather than on the bottom side. Hope that makes sense. W. C.
  8. Sean, To try and answer your questions: 1. When these were made they were for mono play and usually sold as singles. Don't think stereo was around when these were manufactured, hence no mirror for the speakers until they came up with the front porting. 2.The port is approximately the same for front or rear. The rear port was predominantly for corner placement. When stereo became popular, they went to front port for more flexibility in room placement. 3. As far as the actual manufacture date, I have tried several times to cantact Klipsch as the serial numbers for the early models were kept in a log book of some type. Klipsch has never responded to the three emails I sent, as I was seeking informatio on some very early KHorns also, 56 and 57 models. Maybe they will get back to me one day. I am reasonably sure that my older set of Cornwalls were made in early 59. 4. Yours should have a large red arrow on the back indicating orentation. Both sets of mine are painted, not a paper tag. Hope this helps and please understand that I am certainly no expert on the Corns, this is just info that I have gathered over the years from others and there is NO guaranty to its accuracy. Maybe others with more knowledge will "chim" in. W. C.
  9. Sean, Don't yours have a vertical port on the rear? The two sets that I have. do. My serials are in the 120's and 140's. It runs from the top to bottom and has screen in it. W. C.
  10. Is there anyone near Snelville, GA that could possibly pick up a set of Cornwall cabinets for me? I had a trip planned this past wekend and it fell through. If someone could pick up these and hold them for me, it would be greatly appreciated! Please email, call, PM me or leave a message here. Thanks in advance for your time, W. C. Charlotte, NC
  11. If you have any laying around or know where i can find some Cast Klipsch Jack Plates, please PM or email me. I have two restoration projects that they will be used on. Thanks, W. C.
  12. Coyte, You can use a product called Unistrut, Kindorf, etc. It is used in commercial/Industrial construction to hang things like pipe racks, etc. It can be porchased in any Electrical, Hvac or Plumbing Supply House and their are a myirid of fittings for it. It comes in 5/8" and 1-1/2" sizes and even can be bought double welded together yielding a 3" piece. It will certainly support the weight and you can drill it and mount rack rails to it. It can be hung with threaded rods or can be drilled and attached directly to the exposed studs. Here are some of the different brackets that are available:
  13. Paul, If you are going to paint or re-veneer, most of us use Bondo. It can be mixed in small batches, is very strong and sands easily. W. C.
  14. Shamelessly BUMPED in hopes that someone will see this today......... Thanks....W. C.
  15. Looking for some help......................... I was supposed to pick up a set of Cornwalls this morning in Senoia, GA but I have fallen victum to a stomach virus. Seems like half the people in Charlotte have it. I was hoping that someone could possibly help by picking these up for me, until I can get there to get them. They are paid for....! In a perfect world, someone would be coming to Charlotte......and I would be more than happy to pay the expenses Te seller has been great but would really like to get them moved, as soon as possible and I certainly do not want to inconvineince them in any way. You can PM me or email me at heli001@aol.com if you are able to help Thanks in advance.... W. C.
  16. Tim, If you have basic wood working skills, there are several sites that offer great products and DIY instructions. I have done a bunch of veneering projects and it is fun and easy. The Fortes are easy to veneer so if you are up to it, have a few bucks to splurge with and the wife is understanding....try these sites: http://www.veneersupplies.com/default.php?cPath=51 http://www.oakwoodveneer.com/ W. 17. Taking a beautiful Saturday, with Spring like temperatures and making a day trip, to pick up Klipsch speakers. Yesterday was spent driving 600 plus miles, to pick up a set of K Horns, that need work, a FINE set of Cornwalls and three Heresy's, in great shape.....! It was great meeting other Klipsch enthusaist, seeing some great parts of the country i have not visited before and knowing that I am not the ONLY one with this passion or craziness, whichever meets your requirements, to justify it...! The prices were right, the planets were aligned and everything is back at the shop unscathed. With the cost of gas these days, it is getting very hard to align trips that can be productive and saving a bit on the logistics to boot. Shipping cost are geting outrageous, but the cost of gas is making it more difficult, to make these trips. I am afraid that the way the economy is going, it is definately becomming a buyers market, as more and more people are getting into financial straights and the speakers that they have cherrished for years, are some of the first things to go. The shame of it is; some people think that parting out the speakers will provide them more cash up front. I truly feel that a LOSS has occured, everytime I see a set of horns, crossovers or drivers that have been removed, from a perfectly good set of Klipsch speakers. In any event, I am accumilating quite a collection of Heritage speakers and when I finally retire in September, for the third time, I have something that I can devote my full time to (refinishing and rebuilding), that I truly love. It really has become a passion for the product and a want/need to see the older speakers refurbished, rather than stripped down for parts. When I see the parts on the bay, craiglist or the many other sources for them, it hurts to know that a SET of something has been dismantled for profit. That "matched" set of speakers will be gone forever....! Just some thoughts and it is time for me to get off of the soapbox, as the real value was the trip to pick up the intact speakers. Everytime I make one of these trips, I feel like I am saving a small part of the Klipsch heritage. W. C.
  18. Coytee, Rather than going to the expense of angling your ceiling, the money would probably be better spent in True Acoustical tiles, if you age going Lay-In. There is some pretty fancy stuff that is available and would really please the WAF, if you have one. Git rid of mine years ago and the Dogs really don't care what I do in the "Sound Room". If it is going to be sheet rock, any "Angle" is better than a 90 degree box. JMO....W. C.
  19. Here is a schematic from 1955, don't know how much help it will be but it will get you close:
  20. Does it have a sticker for te bass bin? The squawkers were made up in groups and the date on them is not necessarily the same date as the bass bin was made. The crossover may be a clue, if you could show some close ups of that and the bass bin also. There should be a serial number stamped in the wood somewhere on the base bin and there is possibly a sticker or hand written date/serial number behind the speaker door on the bass bin. Most of these old speakers were personally signed by the maker inside of the bass bin. BTW....VERY NICE....! W. C.
  21. I agree on the Harmony 1100 and I also use the RF extender, it actually works anywhere in a 5,000 sq/ft building, w/o line of sight. It even works outside and the wife will love it....! I have replaced nine remotes, and my system is also pretty complex, also. It is a bit pricey, but I feel it is worth it, as I basically lost remotes all the time before consolidating them. I'm pretty sure that the "Sock Monster" still has a couple of them hidden somewhere.....! W. C.
  22. If you have rubber tabs on the doors, try some velcro tabs on them and the casing, this will hold them shut (If that is what is rattling) If you are creating a reasonance in the glass or cabinet, that may be a tougher item. I use the Harmony 1100, pretty damn pricey, but once you get it programmed it is probably some of the best money spent. I did away with nine remotes and it works flawlesly from any room with the RF extender We use a 22 inch Dell monitor, rack mounted, for the very same purpose that you are looking at. This also is a great device for programming with on-screen GUI's. On my sony 5300 I have a seperate HDMI out that I send to this and do not have to use the main screen while I am "Fiddling" with stuff. Power Conditioner - Waste of money Acoustic panels will help with difficult acustics in a room along with bass traps, might help your rattle Bass shakers - Waste (JMO) If you have a good sub, there should be NO need as the sound should be felt internally anyway not through your butt..... The amp upgrade is a great idea if you receiver's amps are being taxed by your speakers. The majority advertise X watts per channel, well this drastically reduces when you add more then two speakers. A seperate amp will aleviate this issue Your milage may vary, W. C.
  23. Claude, The reason that I can indulge in the "Top Shelf Stuff" is that I got rid of MY manic depressive wife 22 years ago and it was the fourth one....I've never looked back....! I actually have a Doctorate in Women......! We (me and the dogs) have a set of Four Way MCM's in our shop, which is a bit over 5K sq/ft and they also sound great. I am fortunate that I can Play and the dogs really don't mind what I spend on speakers and other hobbies.....It is a true shame that I could not find a woman that had thet unconditional love......Go ahead....Call me selfish.....! I figure, after trying four times, that I wasn't cut out to be married, and at my age, its MY turn anyway. I was fortunate to raise a daughter and she turned out very well, even with my habits/hobbies.....! W. C. []
  24. Richard, Sorry I did not answer the PM, been a bit busy with the Holiday stuff.... I cross the 682's at 200hz through a DriveRack 260 Active. I haven't noticed any dead spots or distortion form the 362's or the 682's, as they blend very nicely at that setting. Your milage may vary........Hope this helps. I believe Michael (CoulterPro) has a similar setup to mine and we use them in a 25K sq/ft hangar. He may use a different cross point, I haven't herd him say what he crosses at. Happy Holidays, W. C.
