Will the RF-5's replace the B&W DM 604 S3's?
fuzzydog replied to Youthman's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
How do you think they compare to the RF-7s? -
I'm testing out your eq settings on my RF-7ii's tonight and it sounds pretty good to my ears.
-
I agree with Derrick's statement about the HF being 3-5 db higher than the LF. That's about how much of a bump I've set up in my eq for the LF.

Don't despair my friend. It has taken me some time to dial in my RF7ii's but I'm happy now. I didn't like the audyssey automatic settings so I've set mine up manually.

There's 3 birch heresys posted on the Raleigh, NC Craigslist for $600. I know you're looking for walnut, but these look like a pretty good bargin.

That is a great looking room. I bet a pair of Palladium's in merlot would match your decor perfectly. That way you'd combine the silver drivers, nice wood grain, and klipsch sound all in one package! -
buying a heritage speaker that really isn't that old

Ummmm...should the KSS-1 and KSS-2 appear under the discontinued heritage section of the website? -
Thanks for fixing my link. Not sure why it doesn't automatically create a link when i paste a web address in and hit enter...

Have you considered Cornwalls? It's possible to find nice examples for under $1k. -
There's a nice looking pair of Cornwalls in Columbia, SC for $900. Here's the link: http://columbia.craigslist.org/ele/3884151078.html

Y'all don't get me wrong. I very much prefer a recording which has what I consider to be a natural, balanced sound (perhaps described as "warm"). I guess what gets me going is when people talk about an amp or a speaker as sounding "warm". I can make a "cold" recording sound warmer by running it through an equalizer, but absent an equalizer, a high fidelity system should accurately reproduce the signal that it is fed, IMO.

Where can you pick up refurbished Marantz equipment?
-
I have one of their subs and believe that it performs very well. It's small so it fits behind a chair in the corner of my family room. I checked their website today and it's no longer listed though so i'm wondering if it's discontinued. You may want to check out the Klipsch RW-12D which is now on sale for $280. You could get two of them for the price of an X-Ref 12.

Installed the firmware update but it didn't fix the problem so I ended up returning the unit. I found quite a number of online reviews which reported the same issue.

Anyone have experience with this model Panasonic blue-ray player? I've had mine for a week and it locked up; appropriately with the message "bye" on the screen. I don't know if i should just return it for the same model or try something different.

hmmm...i wonder if my wife would notice there's another subwoofer in the room
-
That is a cool lookin sub!!! Congrats!
-
Congrats! You'll have to let us know how it sounds.

Those components look gorgeous, especially the Juicy preamp. Sure wish more companies would turn out something better looking than the usual black boxes.
-
Is anyone else tired of hearing/reading the adjective "warm" used to describe the sound of a component or speaker? What the heck does "warm" sound like anyway?

I just added a RC-64 II to my 2 channel RF-7 II setup powered by a Marantz NR-1402 receiver. I've enjoyed the receiver until I added the center channel. The receiver is constantly changing the surround settings depending on the program material. I.E, one tv station will play only in stereo while another will use all 3 channels. It will even change modes when going to commercial. Anyone know how to defeat this? Or is it common for modern receivers to change mode depending on the material? I've always thought that the center channel just received a combination of the left and right channel signals. Thanks in advance!

I've been running my RF-7II's and Emotiva X-Ref 12 sub from a little 50 watt per channel Marantz NR-1402 receiver. It performs well and doesn't take up very much space in my TV stand since it's one of their "slim-line" receivers. The on screen setup menus are absolutely terrible however which was a big pain for me since I didn't like how the automatic Audyssey settings sounded and had to set it up manually. If you're wondering about amplifier power requirements for your speakers; I would refer you to Chuck Hawks excellent article where he specifically addresses RF-7's at http://www.chuckhawks.com/speaker_spl_amp_power.htm Best of luck on your search.
