  1. did scott ever sell the 310e tuner with out the gold caps with the brown fluted nobs? I bought a scott 310e tuner that looked nos but the brown fluted nobs don't have the gold caps. they do have the dial mark on the brown nob in white. so the work well with out thre gold cap. the gold cap that i took of another scott nob fits over the brown nobs perfect. So id they sell scotts with the brown nob with out gold caps?? if not I need 4 caps and one larger one for the tunner dial
  2. Mobil, thanks for posting the pic. I know you can get a real 8b for this price or less. I was just wondering if anyone here has had a listen through khorns with the real 8b and the vac 8b like amp.
  3. Can we say block sand! Just keep spraying the Lacure any way you can, the better patern the better. dont worry to much about dry spray or uneven fish just spray a few coats then block sand wet with 3m wet dry paper. Get a rubber sanding block (there cheap) at your local harware or paint store. I would block sand the first few coats with 220 until smooth then spary a few more coats then block with 320 or 400. keep spraying then blocking . after the finsh looks like it is real level and there are plenty of coats you can wet sand it with 600 then hand buff with rubbing compond untill it looks like glass.
  4. I would try not to use Rustyolem or krylon both are Cheep paint are not that hard when dry and can not be buffed. I would use spray can lacure yes yopu can still buy it. Do a surch on the net many guitar repaire supply sell it if not avalible at your loc harware, hobby or auto store. Lacure is what klipsch used org. Automotive paint will work great but are real $$ and some are hard to use. Lacure is great it drys fast can be sanded in a few hours or buffed is the most forgiving finsh to use.I paint cars and cabnets for a living and trust me lacur is the way to go for the do it your selfer
  5. oops! I forgot to put this link in the orig ? was having a lot of troulble with my net connection that day. This Is the New Vac moded 8b . what do you think? http://www.vac-amps.com/auriclepwr.htm
  6. Anyone treid one out ? any thoughts good bad ?
  7. Tom, Your best bet for finding good info on refinshing your khorn is under Guitar Repair and supplys. just do a surch and you will find info on refinshing guitars its done the same way on old khorns with the top of the line finsh. Im preety sure they used lacure as the soild color to. Here is just one link to the many site on the net .i have used there gold lacure to redo a 50,s gibson neck that some had stripped long before I owned it. here in the Boston mass area you can still buy high quillty lacure by the gallon in cabnet supply shops. In my home town of Norfolk Ma they even have a high end paint factory that makes All the types of lacure made from nitro to water based. They are OEM for Gulod guitars,Parker fly ect. So the quilty is very good.
  8. Speaking of gold nob capss anyone know were I can find a gold cap for m y scott 310e. When I bought it on ebay a few years ago (before the price jump) it was missing all the gold non caps.It looks like it never had any as the brown nobs have the dial marks on them in white. But they are the same base as the gold caped ones.
  9. Tom, One trick that works only with lacure and shalac is to refolw the finsh. When lacure or shalac is sparyed on top of itself it melts in and becomes one with the botom layers. You could try just spraying lacure thinner on top it might reflow the finsh and get ride of checking ect. and still keep it org. You would need good lacure thinner used in nitrocelose lacure not acrilic lacure. a good cabnet supply store should have it. If you do strip the finsh klipsch used a filler on the bare wood to fill the grain this will be romoved when stripped. You would have to redo this if you want that orig look.
  10. I just got back from a pro audio show and heard a new speaker lens from David Moulton that might work as a top end with khorns ect. The desiner told me he is working on a compression driver version. I heard them on the bio5 digital active speaker sytem this sytem is in a whole new ballpark for speaker design. Checkout the lens and other cool stuff hear http://www.moultonlabs.com/ The lens is under Sausalito AudioWorks
  11. I also have a short horn 15. Im not sure what they are worth. You dont see many for sale. I might be intersted in buying yours or selling mine Jim
  12. Don't hide your Horns show them proud! 58 khorn type d WITH OPTIONAL FLINSTON DAMPER.
  13. This cornwall was made in the early 60,s When Mono was still the Norm. Thats why only one. It fun to buy them one at a time then find the mate. When a stereo pair was ordered the made them in left and right pairs. I have the matching Right hand speaker to the Left hand speaker on ebay. All early cornwalls Had vertical horns even the first rear ported Cornwall of 59. I have never seen a pre 70,s cornwall without vertical horns.
  14. 3dzapper, Did the Music box add your name to the "wall". I was just a kid in the 70,s when I first head the khorns in the music Box .They closed in the late 90's it was a sad day. I went to the close out sale Some one had already scored the cut away khorn. they still had the full line set up right to the end. I never had the funds back then to buy khorns but did manged to buy a brand new threshold fet 2 pre amp off them in the 80,s. Mr Bell the owner once took a pair of khorns to the Brussells words fair in 59 to demo stereo. He is/was a real Khorn fan and new Paul him self. the Music Box was also said to be one of the first Hi FI stores in the Us.
  15. Tom, U are going to love them.I have the same exact speakers in my 58 khorn. I have never felt any update(down grade) was in order. These look like maybe 61/62 last of the early khorns they did not make many more than 1500 from late 40 to 62. so yours muat be some of the last. I have a 59 in the same finsh in mahogany with lacure finish. leave the tweeter were it is the ev tweeter was designed to be mounted this way (this is sorta like the vertical cornwall ) when klipsch came out with the cast mid horn in 62 or 63 they could no longer mount the tweeter vertical with out changing the height of the speaker. I think the main resone they did away with the k5 mid horn was the cost to make was so much higher than a cast horn. Not so much for the sound. Klipsh first patend a mid horn like this in 1945 except it was a mulicell). Most of the 50s khorn have this same horn some of the earlier one have some extra wooden flares in the lenst otherwise the same. Keep them stock as you could always sell and buy later for less than what these are really worth. But I think you will find the sound they make is to die for. The old orig klipsch delear in Welleley Mass had this same set up in his home and he could have updated for free.he must have sold more khorns than any other dealer. When you bought a pair of him the added your name to the wall the showroom I always want my name on the wall. To bad they dont have Klipsch delaers around hear like that anymore.
  16. BEC, What do you want for a pair of 16ohm diaphragms for the T-35/K-77.. I have some 58/59 vintage Ev t35 brown hamertone with silver lens they came out of 59 and 58 khorn.
  17. Rudy81 , The paint on your lascala if stock( which it looks like) like is just plain old black lacure. I have touched up many things in black from guitars to cars ect. I have found that unlike any colored paint black is black so any black lacure will be a perfect match. You can still buy it on line from a guitar repair supply or cabnet supply house just do a search on google for it. Or maybe your local hardware store has it Avod home chepo if you can there paint is just cheap. lacure is the best for touch up as it becomes one with the old finsh and can be buffed in by hand for a invisable repair. for the perfect patch get some birch veener (from scape of birch plywood or some iron on banding). Then make a veener punch out of some plumbing pipe. Just file the egdes sharp then deform it with a hamer fig eight shape is best. you can then make a perfect patch in the lascal and patching material. then sand smooth and paint. If you decide to just use filler I find that automotive filler(bondo) works best. just rember bond shrinks some if not cured in the sun or heat lamp just leav a 100 watt light over it for a few hours then sand.
  18. k2dx, have you though about just removing the wallpaper and exposing the orig finsh. Lacured raw plywood. On a test speaker this rare I would think twice about adding veneer. I love the look of my stock 58 model D in raw plywood. on the other side I have my 51 infull Dress all stock. Love to see some pics of your early khorn.maybe its the same horn as my 51 with the extra wooden flares in the horn Maron Horonzak, I would love to read your papers have you thought about making copys avalible Klipsch fans like the dope from hope papers.
  19. SHHHHHHHHHH! I'm hoping to win it as I have the reverse matching cabnet only 6 mounths apart.
  20. Stock Scott 310-E with nothing special for a antena. really pulls the sations in and is sweet and warm sounding.
  21. I rember seeing a early khorn on ebay that was won by som one from Klipsch. This was a few years ago but I rember the serial No was 14??? Did klipsch win a early khorn on ebay a few years ago?? the tag looks real to me as i have seen a few pual klipsch signed speakers all had the backward p JUST LIKE IN THE 47 TAG.
  22. about 25 cents a peice at your local harware store. But hey these came of a real khorn must worth 10 times that.
  23. Just hooked up a Threshold s/150 amp and Threshold Fet 2 preamp to a set of 59 khorns. Not a bad combo very detailed smooth top end and tite bass. The amp is rated at 75 watts channel 8ohm my khorns are 16 ohms so i think its putting out half that say 38 watts. This amp is not harsh at all. Now to get my scott 220 a amps rebuilt and a/b them
  24. What do you want to know about the 57 khorn? I have the folowing khorns 51,58 and two 59's plus other early klipsch speakers. I like the early wood/glass mid horns as well as the crossovers on the early khorn. They made them in three styles from D decorater utily cab to full dress fine harwood type B. I think less than 1500 khorns were made before the 60's. This site has copys of the 57 broucher http://hifilit.com/ Drivers used in 57 were stevens trusonic or EV 15 bass,University mid and tweeter. Some 57's might have Ev t 35 as this is right around when they switched from university to Ev tweeter. A pair in 57 is fairly rare as most were sold for mono use.
  25. F R stands for Fir raw klipsch used to use fir plywood before switching to birch some time in the 70's.
