  1. Boris, Just to give you an idea of different level settings:Mine goes like this,K-Horns-7dB,Modified Heresy-7,KSP-S6's+4,IW-150's+12. That's using a 3801 and Radio Shack spl meter. The spl meter is a must have piece.Have had mine forever, never mess with the levels without it.
  2. These babies sound great.Spent some quality time listening with a wide variety of music.Sorry I they are a link, but file too large to post.
  3. To sum it all up with just one word Phenominal!!!!s> Can not say enough about the hospitality we received from the wonderful Klipsch people. Anyone that didn't go really missed it. Going to Paul and Valerie's home was the greatest, just being in their home was heavenly(Becky's words). More to come after we have rested. It's 9:48pm and we have been home for an hour. Steve&Becky
  4. Well Ross, you should be there by now.Hi Doug! It's 6:50pm and Becky and I are headed out the door.1 hour to Charlotte and 1 hour 50 min.to Little Rock.Looks like we will be the last to get there.Should be in Hope around midnight.
  5. According to the Nat.Weather service, there is a flash flood watch for Hope today. We are getting into Little Rock at 10:09pm,hope the windshield wipers on the plane have been checked! My wife is going to get a bummpy ride for her first time in a plane, small 50 seat jet.
  6. 1)Floor to TV top:55" 2)Seated ear height:32" 3)Ear to TV:11 feet
  7. Kathy, In your profile you left out ".com" for your web address. The little house icon won't work. Just thought I'd let you know. Klipsch has Ref.in-walls to match the front end.Look under"Pro Audio". My KSP-S6's don't match my Klipschorn Heresy front end,but work for me and sound great.
  8. Aragon is what was beeing used at CES with the new Ref.line. I don't think they will do anything except own it.
  9. MacKlipsch, nothing out of the ordinary when you click on my "little House"icon. The Klipschorns have ALK networks and the modified Heresy w/K-Horn sqauwker has an AA network with the tweeter caps changed to match the ALK's and woofer inductor matches too.And all three are bi-wired.
  10. I have the 2800(last years 2801)in my bed room and use S out with my Dishnetwork and composite with my VCR.I noticed the other day the OSD worked when switched to the VCR on composite and when on S for the sat.,worked there too.I've had it since Nov.'99 and never knew that. The 2801 should work the same way,I don't know. The 2800 when in my living room worked with a mix of S and Comp.as long as you have both S and Comp inputs on your TV and have the monitor outs(both used)on the 2801.
  11. TKA,what speakers will go with the 3300?More Klipsch? Anyway,if you don't mind giving up some features of the 3300,the 1801 or 2801 will be good down sizers. As far as lack of power for Klipsch goes,I'm just a nut for major over kill. The TOO much power that's in my system......well it's never used,it sure did add to the dynamics and over all low volume impact. I have the 2800 in my bed room with KSB 2.1's and 1.1's and it's more than enough. The 2800 is last years 2801(85X5) ------------------ My Home Theater: '77 Klipschorn L&R '75 Heresy center, modified with,K-Horn sqauwker & AA network. KSP-S6 at sides 2 IW-150s rear. Denon AVR-3801 2 Denon POA-2800 200X2 1 driving the Horns 1 driving the bi-wired Heresy center. All speakers set to"large". 2 DIY 12"4ohm subs, one in each corner(behind the Horns false walls)Carver A500x 400 watts per ch.feed. 1 12" powered sub(behind the couch)feed from the surrounds pre-outs. Sony DVP-C650D. Music in "Direct"only! DH Labs T-14 speaker wire to the front 3. Horns & Heresy bi-wired using Monster XPHP for the bass. Stinger Queen interconnects.
  12. TJ, Sorry, but can't give you any input on using Adcom. If you are happy with the sound, keep it. As far as the Horns go,WELL I SAY KEEP THEM!! I have heard that the RS-3's should work well with the Horns.A Heresy should do for the center, depends on what it might be sitting on.C-7 if the Heresy is too big. Click on the little house in the bar above to get a look at what I've done. It's the link to our web pages on different BBers posts. The Heresy I am using for a center is upside down so the tweeter is closer in line with the Horns tweeter. It's modified with a K-Horn sqauwker and AA network to get the mids to perfictly match the Horns. The Heresy was a very good match before, but I can't leave well enough alone.I could not get a La Scala up on my TV,so........ You didn't say what type TV you were using,if tube type the Heresy upside down should get the woffer magnet far enough away from the tube.I used mine under a 27"for a while with no problem. To sum this up,my system,to everyone how has heard it,sounds great with music and movies. Don't part with the Klipschorns. I am not saying nothing else will do,but they are the top end at Klipsch till the Jubilee comes out. ------------------ My Home Theater: '77 Klipschorn L&R '75 Heresy center, modified with,K-Horn sqauwker & AA network. 13. Hate to say this, but just sit down with the manual and go step by step. I've got 3 Denon AVR's,the bed room AVR is the 2800 and last years 2801.I agree that the manual is a bit confusing, not laid out very well, but not as bad as some of the others. After having had Denon of some kind for 5 or 6 years,it get's easier. Wish I could go through it with you and this is the hardest way to do it,on a forum. Don't know any easier way to help you. Email me with a set by step direction of what you have done and I could probably help. Steve
  14. Here is just a thought.Pioneer has a 5 disc DVD player for $299.I know you have a DVD player, but I have come to realize that DVD palyers(IMHO)have a better sound than most CD palyers in that price range.DV-C503.It also plays audio CD-R's and has both optical and coaxial outs. After getting a Sony 5 disc DVD Christmas'99,and after comparing it to my Denon 460 5 disc CD,the Denon found a new home. The Sony, even though I was using the digital out from both, sounded better in many ways compared to the Denon. Just a thought.
  15. Mark, A very good friend of mine has '73 Horns and drives them with a Luxman amp and pre-amp,both SS.They are '82 or '83 and has had them since new. They sound great and the ones you are looking into would most likely sound excellent. Luxman is a great name in stereo, but dropped out of the American market.
  16. Found what you need at Sears. It will cut a perfict round hole and you could even use it to flush mount the sub. ROTOZIP SpiraCut saw.#27745 on sale for $89.99.Kinda like a router. Comes with a case, circle cutting guide, bits.
  17. Another pair of RS-3's would be perfict.
  18. Is +10 the most you can get out of the Sony? Too bad you can't turn the mains down. What is the spl@a watt of the KSF-S5?Isn't it around 96 or so?The C-7 99 and the 30's 102?I can't remember. Seems the db should be closer than what you are getting.Sorry I can't be of anymore help than that.
  19. One thing I forgot. You are using a passive radiator. That's very close to using a port.Point is you will not need as much power to drive a ported sub as you do a sealed sub.The amp size you said you were looking at might be enough. Make sure you check partexpress close out and sale section.I've seen their sub amps on sale at great prices.I got the one you are looking into to replace the dead amp in a ported 12"sub box I use through my surround outs behind my couch.Seems to work well for that.
  20. What JTYoung said is what I meant.Wasn't implying that the receiver was crappy. I should have asked for more info. Yes you could do that I guess,if you were feeding the FL and RL with the left out-put of a CD player and the same with the right. Is that what you are talking about? One thing to remember is that a 5 channel receiver will not drive all channels at the same time with the same amount of power. In all the reviews I've read on most 100 X 5 receivers, the power was checked with only 2 channels driven, power rating drops when all channels are driven. Nov.2000 Sound and Vision has the JVC RX-8000V clipping on one channel driven at 100 watts,5 channels driven it clipped at 68 watts. In Ht use it is rare for all 5 channels to need all the power out,the three fronts probably try hard in most movies. The center gets the majority of the power most of the time. Driving 4 channels with almost the same signal will most likely tax even the best($3,000+)receivers. The B&K AVR-307(150X7)clipped into one channel at 181 and all five it clipped at 138.This is a $3500 receivers. Marantz SR-14EX($4700 140X5)did better at one,202 and at 5 144.It did what the manufacturer said it would do. What you want to do will work, but not at the power you would like to have. This is just my opinion, not meant to irritate anyone. I bi-wired my L&R and Center and use my external amps A&B speaker outs so the amps see a 4ohm load,300 watts rms instead of 200 watts rms. Now the same review shows the power out of the JVC RX-8000V(in stereo) clipping at 128 into 8 ohms and 192 into 4 ohms.Thats 56 more watts and less chance to drive one or more channels into clipping, most likely the channels driving the bass section of the speakers. So using 2 channel stereo with your speakers and using the A speaker out for the mids/highs and the B for the bass would yield more usable power to the speakers. The JVC has A & Bspeaker outs for the mains.
  21. 160 should be good if you don't crank really hard.I had a stereo amp driving my Kicker Comps that had 190 rms to each sub.I also had a watt meter on it and noticed one day it was highting the 200 light. These meters are slow so no telling what was really there. Now using a Carver 400 X 2 into at 4ohms and noticed something was missing.Distortion. I had very good luck using one side of my Denon amp at about 300 going to each sub. Also great job.Better too much than too little. An underpowered speaker will die faster than an over powered one, using in moderation, that is.Too little power will drive the amp to clipping, causing death. Sure you can cook a speaker driving it way too hard with excesive power.
  22. OK fellow bassers, why not....... Bag End Infra-18 powered sub.$1500 in black. Wide screen review says it's a goodie. A friend has 2 of the external powered ones that have the ELF and QSC amp brided to 1000 watts. One will do,but these babies will move air.And they go very LOW. They are in a K-Horn,La Scala HT room.
  23. jhawk,EX is just matrix,I use 6.1 on all my DVDs with very good results. When I had a DIY EX set up I noticed added presence with other than EX stuff. When I went to a 3801,the EX stuff sounded the same as it did w/the DIY set up.The real pleasure was the dts Neo:6 C.It does an incredible job with Pro Logic. I sure do wish they would stop all this NEW stuff for a while. It's getting as bad as computers.
  24. If you are running the sub from the sub out,try this;In the set up,"fronts⊂"and set the mains small.I think they are too small to set"large",can't remember what they go down to. That way the sub shouldn't go into stand-by.
