  1. I found a cracker of a thread when searching for the Motengator - https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/149062-klipsch-fan-visits-klipsch-factory/
  2. A couple of light installations on a cruise ship
  3. I am blessed to have my highly tweaked La Scalas They just make me happy listening to them every time I play music, and that's just about every day However I have been known to say that I would only swap for a pair Jubilee's But the K - 402 horn suggestions above are giving me ideas
  4. We have a bird that laughs - It's called a Kookaburra - part of the Kingfisher family At our home we have a few that visit on a regular basis
  5. Led Zeppelin do the best cover on the Stairway to Heaven intro as its not really there song It was originally penned by Taurus
  6. I was invited to have a listen to a new horn system by an audiophile friend So a couple or three photos to drool over is in order for my Klipsch mates
  7. Here is a photo I just took just to update the build thread Plus testing the new lens on the camera
  8. That is way cooool And a great suggestion with a photo to get a handle to back up your message
  9. Very nice indeed - did you make the braces yourself -you have 6 braces on the cab - 2 bottom - 2middle-2 top - plus thicker walls on the sides and back - I would have thought that 2 braces were sufficient -are these scala 2 or scala bins - that would mean you have at minimum 1.5 inches on the side and rear - how have the braces helped overall not including the bottom bass port - Bruce is correct there is one brace in the centre and the others at top & bottom are wood strips for the grill The extra thickness has helped immensely To your other question - All the cabinets are professionally built to Klipsch plans ( they are not factory made ) and I am the second owner The bottom bass bin takes the bass range to below 30 htz when used with the Crites 15" cast driver to my ears Anyway you can read about some of the build here - https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/108425-la-scala-bass-reflex-mod/
  10. And this is how my La Scalas are braced but they also have double thickness side and back walls
  11. Don't Use glue on the dog box cover instead use automotive foam weather tape its self adhesive on one side and available in several thickneses Use new driver gaskets if required Never use any damping in the dog box You can use wood glue for joins as required You can use a clamping device to stop bass driver resonance vibrations Budget allowing my recommendation is to replace the crossovers with modern alternatives Brace the side walls with extra Ply or MDF to add thickness OR add external braces but I prefer x 4 per cabinet (2 per side) see link http://www.klipschupgrades.com/lascalabraces.shtml
  12. that give more bass -as the door opening of the dog house is removed and this port added -simple but it works -this is not a sub however - it just digs the bass a bit lower That description is correct - but it works so well
  13. I use Apple TV as the interphase between IPad / iPhone and the DAC
  14. This photo was taken at Hobart Botanical Gardens Tasmania It has a Monet feel to it
  15. It was my pleasure Wolfram - glad to help another enthusiast
  16. Here is a copy and paste of the English version for your good self and other members ( please note my autoformers are @ 1 dB increments ) A pair of autotransformers to allow the perfect adjustment of volume improvement of phase for mid-range and high-range hornspeakers. The sound volume can be adjusted in 14 steps, each at 1,5 dB per step. Other extraction stages are available on request. Very high quality versions wound on Double Core. This is for all horn enthusiasts who want to get the absolute optimum out of their speakers without using resistors and volume controls. The old horn specialists such all use autotransformers. Klipsch corner-horn without autotransformers is unthinkable. Unfortunately, autotransformers have been largely forgotten. However, they have great advantages compared to conventional crossovers not only when looked at from a technical point of view (see electrical diagram) but even more so when comparing the sound quality, which improves immensely. Horn and woofer build a homogeneous entity, becoming more coaxial, they perform together and not separately. The aficionado/ adept will know exactly what I mean. The old master Shindo employs autotransformers and paper in oil capacitors. He knows why! +++++++++++++++A few explanatory notes about the autotransformer (AT)+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The AT is used for level adaption on multiple-combination loudspeakers. The operating mode is similar to that of a power transformer, for example from 230 to 115 volt, it thus forms a voltage divider for AC voltage. The advantage of an AT however compared to alternating current voltage dividers lies in its much lower internal resistance, below 0.1 Ohm. Thus the electrical damping of the connected loudspeaker is considerably higher. The power factor (BxL) also takes on considerably higher data. This is a very important factor when operating horn-drivers, as the BL-faktors have a great influence on the characteristic curve.
  17. At first I used the original Klipsch type Autoformers However as I was in tweaking mode I was kindly offered by another member to buy a set of them he had in storage He said he purchased them from a guy in Germany that makes some very nice double c-core autoformers http://www.ebay.de/itm/Autotransformer-passend-fur-Altec-and-other-Horn-Projekte-/221435457601?pt=Lautsprecher_Selbstbau&hash=item338e94f041&clk_rvr_id=791323793053&rmvSB=true
  18. I would bid but the cost to ship internationally is just way to expensive for what is essentially a letter
  19. Now that is something I'd agree with. I have just changed the coil placed before the woofer (from Solen to a coil would by the gentleman who also did "my" autoformers) and the change is not dramatic (some more clarity), but to my ears worth the extra money spent. I shall give those wax coils a try - but it takes about two weeks for them to be manufactured and delivered. Wolfram I also had to place a special order from Jentzen for the correct Mh value coils to be custom made Took about 4,weeks from memory
  20. That's pretty close to the series of events I went through Dean A few little improvements with judicious parts selection added up to a monumental improvement
  21. There is nothing standard on my Klipsch La Scalas so I had to do a little bit of experimenting You need to look at the design as a whole and not it's individual parts Because the flat coils were incorporated last I can inform you that the difference between the Twisted Solen and the Jentzen Flat wax coils is subtle - but to my ears noticeable Please don't underestimate the fantastic performance of the Solens However the main difference is the faint ripple edge of the crossover point of mid and bass disappears with the Jentzen flat wax coils One other area of difference after installing the Jentzen Flat wax coils is in the attack of the music. Some tracks give me tingles up my spine - I have some very demanding test tracks For music with soft passages I can't tell the difference between the two Hope my explanation helps
  22. I haven't made any vendor posts to recommend them I don't accuse any member of plagiarism I don't overstep my welcome and I am respectful However at times even I get a kick in the guts ( with words )
  23. This design was built and is being used with my La Scala's
  24. Alabama One of my favourite track titles from Neil Young
  25. If I was to do another build the only design I would consider is the Jubilee or the Volti equivalent and use an Eliptrac 240 horn No I must not think of new builds
