  2. nice looking pair of cornwalls for a decent price. located in eastern iowa. no affiliation but i can check them out & help in holding them if anyone is interested. http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/ele/5552400016.html
  3. very nice gear... LOVE the pink floyd artwork! good luck with the sale.
  4. your epics will be hard to beat.. but the k-horn should be capable of doing that. im not too familiar with the older k-horns, im sure someone else will chime in, but i think the older ones have the less desireable crossovers & being as old as they are could probably use an upgrade/replace of the caps. if they are a good price to you then by all means get them. if you dont like them im sure you can resell to get your money back.
  5. nice looking onkyo... im pretty sure the wood side panels are factory to the older integra models, at least they are for the 8087 & for all the M series amps like the m-504 & 508. but looks like the prev owner used real wood sides, the originals were an ugly vinyl faux wood. that 8067 has 80watts per channel, being its older onkyo power it will be "ok" for the chorus & drive them pretty good... but, these chorus speakers really like power, they have 1000 watt peaks. some guys feed them 200+ watts & say they really come alive then. but with their high efficiency they should be plenty loud with the onkyo. keep you eye out for a higher power amp like the m-504 or another brand closer to 200 if you want to take them to the next level. go play the lottery while the luck is still strong! & send me half your winnings!
  6. shoot an email to bob, he probably has pics of a completed x-over. he sent me one for the chorus2's. looks pretty tight on that board... for the chorus 2's you have to mount the bigger cap vertically in order to fit. you might have to do that with the 2.0uf caps too but the bigger one looks like it might squeeze in there. email bob he will explain what to do. let us know how they sound when youre done.
  7. wow... awsome score! who the heck would just throw these away! especially in decent shape & working! you should go play the lottery while youre at it! i think these listed for just under $2000 when new, $1750 or so if i recall. look into upgrading the tweeters with crites titanium & they will sound even better.. & possibly a capacitor upgrade in the x-overs too. congrats you lucky dog!
  8. yeah he says 4 cornwalls & then says "2 are corner units & 2 are rectangular"... definitely 2 cornwalls & 2 k-horns. if the k-horns & cornwalls are nice the price for the whole system is a good deal for just the 4 klipsch speakers.
  9. overpriced for sure, but they look to be in nice shape.... i sold my almost mint condition ver2 cf-4's for $900 in black satin, with original boxes. hard to tell the version by the crappy pics, the ports do look to be on the shorter side but the mid definitely looks like the grey'ish color of version 1's. could also be version 2 with shorter ports but still the better woofers. ask for the serial number, thats really the only way to confirm.
  10. good to hear you liked the daytons ok... ive read many people say they cant hear any differences between the expensive & cheaper poly caps, but then again ive read a lot of people say they can indeed hear differences & even explain them with very descriptive words. hard to say whats real & whats placebo effect... i know if i paid some of the crazy prices for boutique caps i'd really want to hear a difference too! bob definitely has some very nice new x-overs, out of my price range for upgrades at this time though. im hoping the logic is correct that entry level new poly caps will be better than the stock 25 cent a piece original electrolytics that are 25+ years old.
  11. i just found a great deal on some walnut chorus2's. ive been searching for a pair of these in walnut for awhile now & jumped when i found them, met the guy just a few hours away in illinois. i have owned forte & forte 2 & didnt realize just how big these chorus are! they are monsters & dwarf the fortes! they are in very nice shape from the original onwer, aside from a few scratches & dings they look great, & best bookmatched veneer i've seen, they should clean up very nice. the speakers sound good overall & all drivers & passives work & look good, but compared to an older pair of original fortes i had these chorus sound a little muddy or flat in the mids & tweets. these are hooked to the exact same system (just an 90wpc onkyo AVR for now) & same location as the fortes were. the fortes were great, very crips & clear & somewhat bright but in a good way, a very lively sound & great bass. the chorus sound "ok" but lack the bright detail & crisp clear mids, they have great bass & upper bass impact & i can tell they will go very loud with more/better power, but for now they are just an average pair of speakers not producing the klipsch sound i know should be there. so.. that leads me to believe the caps should be replaced on the x-overs, along with getting titanium tweets, but for now i want to do just the x-overs to confirm the originals were bad. whats strange is, the fortes were a few years older than the chorus so it must be use & abuse as well as age that degrades caps. i will probably just get the crites repair kit for them & redo them myself, but after buying new ti-tweet diaphrams for the fortes & chorus & wanting to upgrade the x-overs on my k-horns eventually, i am considering saving a little $$ & buying the caps individually from dayton or solen etc, instead of the sonicaps used in the crites kit. i realize they are probably a "better" cap & well worth the money, but i would be happy for now with properly working stock x-overs, so new & better poly caps than the stock klipsch would be more than enough i would think. what brands have others used & what were your opinions of them? thanks in advance for any input/opinions on this touchy subject.

    Alert - 1000 K-Horns

fully agree, but yeah that was just the cosmetics at first glance sitting on a dirty & wet garage floor. they might clean up to a 5'ish but the sound could be 10+!

    Alert - 1000 K-Horns

hi guys... i just got home from looking at these & thought id pass on some details for anyone interested, the pics are a little deceiving & dont show any real detail or specifics. these are AA x-overs, she said she thinks they were bought in 1989 by her brother but i think AA's are older than that arent they? cosmetics: lots of scratches in the veneer on the tops & the face of the bass bins. most corners have small chipped off pieces of the veneer. scratches about 1-2" long that broke clean through the veneer on the face of one bass bin, also the very bottom horizontal 2" piece of trim board is missing a 1-2" piece off the end. all in all they sounded ok at lower levels, but the cosmetics are very bad for anyone that cares about that... would make great garage/shop speakers though! i offered a little less than $1000 & they passed so seems pretty firm on the $1000 ballpark. let me know if anyone needs any other details. update: well the seller called me back yesterday to make a counter offer & we were able to work out a deal. they are home here now & i will post up some pics before i clean them up as best as i can & put them in their new home. as has been mentioned, i think they are worth the price because they seem to work ok, just wish they werent quite so beat up, thats why i initially passed, im kind of picky about the cosmetics since thats a big part of klipsch to me but i would have paid the asking price if they were a little prettier. just wanted to update this so anyone curious knows they are sold & the ladys phone doesnt ring off the hook!
  14. go get em! if they arent already gone. posted 2 hours ago. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/msg/5171982350.html
  15. talked to the seller & got pics, they are not chorus II, they are original chorus. although very nice looking & in walnut.
  16. hey, those are my old fortes!! congrats on the new speakers, glad they went to a good home. i had no doubt you would love them. they look awsome in your basement set up, the grain looks great with the floor! as you can see they are some of the nicest fortes i have ever seen, the pics in my for sale ad didnt do them justice. i was impressed with them on my little 80wpc onkyo receiver, but when i hooked them to some better power on my 200wpc rotel or adcom amps, they were on a whole new level. once you get some better power to them you will like them even more! i do notice in the pics one of the grille rubber inserts came out of its hole, i meant to mention that when you picked them up. be carefull not to lose any of them, you can use a little silicone or something to glue them into the holes, over the years they must have shrunk a bit & can pull out. congrats & enjoy!
  17. seller of the chorus just told me he'd take $450... $450! these should not still be for sale & they would not be if i was local to him or he would ship them. someone is going to get a great deal.
  18. i agree the fortes & epics are at the top of the list, especially for the used sale prices, they really cant be beat. & inflation is ridiculous when you think about it, compared to when these were new the increase is 4x to equal todays dollar. makes me wish i would have bought up a ton of new klipschs back then & had them new in the box today. im happy with the price point & would like to see them go to a member here so i know they go to a good home. they've only been listed a few days & im patient, dont need to sell them & kind of dont want to but the money would go towards future audio gear.
  19. so far im surprised by it. i read the 30 watt rating is understated, other say it comes in at almost 40 when tested. i'd like to clean mine up better & adjust the bias etc to factory specs. agree on the retro look & feel, wish it had a remote tho! some reviews ive read say its the closest to tube sound for a reasonably priced vintage s/s amp.
  20. anyone here have or heard a vintage marantz 1060 integrated amp? i have a very nice 1060 thats been collecting dust for a few years, it has a scratchy volume knob that cleaned up with some deox-it cleaner. its rated at only 30wpc, but thought it would be a good match with my k-horns. it sounds pretty darn good at low to mid levels, havent really pushed it yet. coming from a big 200wpc adcom 555ii amp & pre i was a little concerned how the little marantz would do. it doesnt seem to have the impact of the adcom & thats obviously due to the big power difference but at lower volumes it seems to have a warmer more musical quality & honestly has pretty good bass untill i go to higher levels. one thing i do like is that it has a mid level adjuster, never seen that before, only the standard bass & treble adjustments. i got it for a great deal with some vintage sansui speakers a friend of a friend was selling so i thought i'd put it through its paces after cleaning it up. just curious if anyone has ran this marantz on other heritage speakers or k-horns & what your thoughts were on its performance. it gets excellent reviews & seems to bring good money in the used market. also this can be ran as just a pre amp, think i will play with it as a pre on the adcom & my other amps, rotel 200wpc & an onkyo m-504.
