  1. Selling a subwoofer driver from an RW-10 with a blown amp. The woofer itself is in absolutely perfect condition. Asking $50 + shipping
  2. I've read good things about the Emotiva speakers. Neutral and detailed, a bit boomy due to the cheap-ish cabinets. The Klipsch RPs have nicer/more solid cabinets and greater dynamics but not as neutral as the Emos.
  3. Added a bookshelf model map. Added more detail including prices and driver sizes. Please let me know if you see any adjustments that need to be made! Especially with the used market pricing. Working on updating the floorstanding map with the same details.
  4. I agree that the 4.2 is probably slightly better. I'm betting they switched to port for the 4.5 to reduce cost. Though in reality, the 4.2, 4.5, 5.2, and 5.5 all sound really similar. I've never had a chance to A/B them, but my memory shows little distinction.
  5. First Klipsch I ever heard were the ProMedia 2.1 demo at best buy. Even with those teeny, tiny little horns, I could tell something special was going on. I bought the ProMedia set and aimed my sights at a set a real floorstanding pair. By the time I landed my first big ones, RF-35s, I thought I had raised my expectations high enough, but was completely blown away! I had never heard speakers anywhere near this level of performance. I will never forget the expressions of shock and disbelief when I played "Enter Sandman" for my friends for the first time. Almost 40 pairs later, I've settled on KLF-30s.
  6. You can add a digital output to your PC(optical or maybe coaxial) or you can use an external USB DAC such as an Audioquest Dragonfly or maybe a Schiit product. There are some integrated 2ch amplifiers with USB connections from PS Audio, Peachtree, Teac, etc.... I think Yamaha has one?
  7. Geez, the only Klipsch I ever found at a thrift store was a blown sub....
  8. The Lepai will definitely work. I ran my RP-160's for a very long time with the built in speaker jacks on my Pioneer plasma tv. Only around 15 watts/ch. It played at very decent volume with no major sacrifice in the bass. Couldn't turn it up as loud as I wanted to sometimes, but it was more than acceptable.
  9. I've also been looking at a NAD 2200 for sale locally to pair with my KLF-30s Doesn't sound like a glowing recommendation. I was interested in it because of what I've heard about the dynamic headroom. I was expecting that to translate to more powerful bass and dynamic punch, but sounds like you don't think this is the case? Have any idea how it would compare to my current Adcom GFA-545? I love the midrange quality of the Adcom, so maybe biamp with the NAD on the woofers and the Adcom on the horns?
  10. I think it's mostly so he can have some peace and quiet during the important stuff.
  11. CNET says 70.99 lbs. That's super lame to be over by ONE lb.
  12. I have to disagree with the comments about R28Fs lacking low end bass and overall power. Something is wrong here. They're wired incorrectly or the receiver is set incorrectly. Maybe they're out of phase with each other?? I owned two pairs of R28F and powered them with a cheapo Insignia 100w/ch Bluetooth stereo receiver and cranking loud and hard was pretty much the only thing they were good at! There was plenty of sub bass presence on my fav EDM tracks and the person I sold them to said "oh wow, you really don't need a sub for these, huh?" when he came to demo them. I'm sure there's either something wrong with the wiring or receiver settings or just an unusually long break-in time.
  13. Ew... Yes, upgrade quickly. Denon, Pioneer, Marantz, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc...
  14. I agree. Since you haven't bought the speakers yet, redirect your aim at some real Reference stuff. If you want new towers, try to get some clearance RF-82ii towers before they're gone. If you're good with bookshelf models, go for the RP-160M. If you're okay with used, like me, you can check your local Craigslist for older Reference towers such as RF-3 or RF-35. And, no, you don't need to worry about underpowering your speakers with that Onkyo.
  15. Eh, it was just a long shot question. I wouldn't trade the 3-way sound of the KLF for RF-7s anyway.
  16. Yes, RF-7. Really any RF with the cerametallic woofers.
  17. Is it possible to swap out the KLF-30 woofers with some aluminum cone replacements? Are there any viable options? Would the crossover need to be modified as well? What if it were KLF-20s? Would you be able to swap in RF-7ii woofers? Just something I've been wondering about because I really liked the tight bass of the RF series.
  18. Nope. Not until you get bitten by the upgrade bug. And when you do, remember that the RP-160m are an upgrade. Especially since you have that monster sub taking care of the bottom end.
  19. You can use them ripped if you want. Sound quality may be slightly diminished. You may notice an imbalance in bass from one side to they other. The rips will get worse with use, but the repair process is easy. At $200, it's a tough call. I guess it depends on your local market. If there are no other options, then maybe just go for it. KGs are not my favorite, but they're a fine speaker.
  20. Very nice overall. Any particular reason that you went with all the nicer, Reference Premiere stuff for everything except the towers? You'd probably be better off with a pair of RP-160m for the main left and right instead of the R28F. Just nitpicking tho, very admirable setup. Expecially that sub!
  21. You should really try to forget about the amount of power. Just try to find an AVR that has the features you need and has good reviews for sound quality.
  22. Wow, nice. That is a bit surprising. My experience relies only on what I hear from the models I've owned. Nothing official really.
  23. That's exactly what I'm saying and it's not unusual at all. There are plenty of audio products aimed at the masses that do this. Almost any Bose product, Beats headphones, Sony mini hifi systems, etc... I've noticed this on every single Synergy or Icon speaker I've ever heard. It's just your typical "American curve" or "Smiley Face curve" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiley_face_curve iirc, it's usually boosted around 50hz and 7khz.
