  1. Most bean counters look at advertising budgets just like they look at maintenance budgets. They cost money they don't make money because you cant define precisely what the end result is. They prefer these two departments get funded by Unicorn farts and not by robbing their profit making departments. Of course the salaries of these valuable MBA CPA corporate assets always rise because the bad decision making department makes a profit. Get it?
  2. I have a pair there now but they are going to be pulled. It must be La Scala month as I have glommed onto two sets of LSI's and will be picking up a nice LS BR set when it quits raining. I will be using the rest of my soldered lugs to upgrade these.
  3. I don't intend to ever own anything past 2010 for these reasons you all mention. Stupid high prices on everything and engineered super high repair costs to help make up for low interest loans. I am NOT going to own something to small nor one that has to have the body raised off the frame to work on the engine. My Ford E150 hauls a ton of stuff and gets 17 to 18 on the highway and is not stupid expensive to work on. I has a look at one of the new body styles and one glimpse into the engine compartment cured me of all desire to smell new again.
  4. I forget who it was that said there were reasons to use these old things. I have 8 2uf's that are within 10% but the esr is consistent right at .78. You want these things I will keep them for a while and you pay postage to get them. I also have others on occasion and some of those lovely mylars to and all are high esr. Speak up soon though as when it is clean up time they go away.
  5. Are you including the "M" in this?
  6. Yeah those are the best I have heard in person but try to get them when you need them.
  7. Is this the same guy who builds tube amps?
  8. Heh Heh and some like me just beat the sides off and replace with 25mm Baltic Birch. I would not do that to good condition cabinets but will do it to LSI's in a heart beat.
  9. Read what Volti Audio has to say about these. They are not one size fits all and you need to be handy to make them right.
  10. https://www.klipschupgrades.com/lascalabraces.shtml
  11. Very nice and no MDF I see. Whose are these?
  12. Atlas made those and they still do make them I believe and also market them as an Atlas PD-5VH.
  13. Two different speaker types and not a valid thing to compare.
  14. The 18mm plywood used on the sidewalls vibrates when you turn those La Scalas up. Try this turn it up fairly loud and then press in on the sides with your hands and you will hear a difference. That is resonance. Recently I rebuilt a set of LSI's with 25mm thick plywood and it was a whole different world. I don't have a link right at hand but there are posts around here that talk about bracing between the dog house and side walls and there used to be an aftermarket kit made for this. It is a well know problem and it is why Klipsch eventually went to 1" material for the sidewalls on new La Scalas.
  15. Well and the idea that most of these people who want music today and download think iPhones and earbuds are audiophile quality. Klipsch forum members are a tiny fraction of popular music purchases and most buyers not only don't know what good music sounds like they don't care.
  16. I kind of hesitated before I put this here in the tech section but what the heck. Today's humor in the tech world can be found here. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/what-s-your-vote-for-the-most-ridiculous-overpriced-and-useless-tweak?utm_source=sendgrid&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=website I am a bit shocked that no one mentions $60,000 dollar speaker cables and all the rest of the preposterous junk for sale there. But watching the defense of the indefensible and wondering who has ties to whom is quite amusing. I love the fairytale side of Audiogon and all the goodies that work so well because of the Pixie dust liberally dispersed as heretofore plebian devices become the golden way to patrician audio nirvana. Audiogon has some real people with real tech value and then there are those others.
  17. Crossover re-cap #1 K-55 in good shape is a keeper. There is one supposed to be better from John Allen but people I trust to give me the straight answer and have listened say the Atlas is very good and the Allen not worth the extra money for the very slight gain. Now you have to compare apples to apples so yes your 40 year old K-55 atlas might not sound as good as a new one would. Your recent or current Atlas is the best bang for the buck. That K-77 needs to go away. If whatever aftermarket tweeter you stick in there does not solve your sibilant or shrill problem try sticking an L-Pad in there. It can make a huge difference. Sidewall resonance is a real problem and you might need to brace them. It is not just one thing to make them right and when you get them right they are awesome speakers.
  18. Audacity is your friend and it makes a real improvement. Chris A writes about audacity on the forums and if you think it does not work try this. Save an original copy and then get your Audacity fixed copy and play them back to back. People that come over here to buy speakers are always shown this because I want them to understand good sound is more than just a pair of speakers.
  19. They have been for sale for a while. Less than 20 miles from me and after research not worth the drive.
  20. So the choice would be $400 or $800 per day? Is there a combo price or a weekly price? 😀
  21. I always enjoyed M-80's before the government bed wetters made them illegal. It might take a few applications but was always great fun. I miss those days when as kids we could risk life and limb and not have safety police following us around with rules to keep us safe.
  22. So Chris are you rethinking your Xilica endorsement? Or is this a simple to get your feet wet with good quality and price endorsement?
  23. They are not even remotely close.
