  1. It is a convex elliptical shape. The tractix type when tested on the smaller lens did well but not as good as the elliptical so I did not make any tractix type for the K-79 assuming the same would hold true there.
  2. First I am going to see how this goes with the Walnut. I am also going to see what I might have to do differently to cut these over aluminum which is uniform and no surprises. If they turn out to be trouble it will be special order and I imagine more money than the regular ones.
  3. No and I have been looking and so are others all the time. You ever see any at a decent price don't hesitate because I sure won't. I am probably going to end up having to buy new to go on my future Super MWM build.
  4. Well yes the pretending that worms are not icky and slimy just because someone does not want it to be that way ;D
  5. Yeah I know I hope he made it to Heaven but I have my doubts since not everyone gets to go there. But to place on a pedestal someone with his sordid past I can pass on. Google is easy to use and it is easy to find out lots of things about him for people who wish to seek and know the truth. Rather than get in the dirt and get all huffy and offended I prefer to just stay away and not praise him. RIP and his episode is over.
  6. I have done this on occasion I just think it makes a neater looking job to use one over two. There is no electrical reason not to I just like the appearance of one over two. But yeah a pile of 1,2,3 and 4uf caps can sure be combined for a lot of coverage.
  7. I think part of that is the idea the Chorus was cheaper and enough consider it better and for Klipsch's bottom line I suspect they did not want to create competition for the Cornwalls. Both ended in 1990 as far as I can tell and until the Cornwall was relaunched in 2006 neither were made. Not much cost difference to produce but I bet the Cornwall looks better to number crunchers.

Pick up only. I will however ship components from this if they do not quickly sell.
  9. I am finding that out and soldering is a mysterious art to many also. I did recommend the old crossovers be rebuilt for that reason and the idea that the crossover had to be altered in some way just to use the DE 120 was really what I was addressing. Claude suggested the L Pad and yes assuming many will not want to bother for those who do is it a viable option? I have thought about adding Bob's autoformer to crossovers so people could jump taps for fine tuning. I know compared to many Sonicaps are not expensive but they are higher than the Dayton's and Erse's this cheapskate has used. I have a set of Chorus I's I am going to build and keep as test beds soon where I can go ahead and try things like different caps out. I lean towards tone controls and EQ and Audacity also. I stuck those horns and DE120's into the Chorus and can adjust it to do anything I want without having to rework anything and they sound good. Why not as I have lots of company ;D
  10. I used some when I built crossovers for three sets of those KP456's I had a while back. I have no idea if they were worth it but they sure looked sharp. I do see resistance value differences on various types and guess anything will change output to some degree but can you hear it? Thanks for the offer but like you I have tried various types and don't know that it matters to much. Thinking of unwinding some of those ferrite bobbin coils to get some 245uf values instead of buying new next time since I can measure them.
  11. There are a variety of inductors with the same values. I am wondering if there is a rule about what should be used where. For instance I can get a 2.5 MH Super Q Erse, a2.5MH from Bob and various open air coils and bobbin wound and ferrite core. All have the same MH but they do differ in resistance and wattage ratings and conductor size. Why for instance can't I use a Super Q 2.5MH over the transformer looking 2.5MH I see offered from various places. PE shows three of these all 18g wire. They also show 5 air core 14g to 18g from $7.47 to $31.22. Like everything else regarding audio components it seems there are prices from cheapo to grossly exorbitant. What is the general rule here for what to use or can someone point me in the direction of a concise set of rules to follow.
  12. I have been asked to cut set of these out of Walnut. I have pondered this for some time and this kind of kicks me off the fence where wood is concerned. I will have to cut these with the grain parallel to the face of the speaker for strength but we shall see how this works Have to be real careful with screws on these I would imagine since I figure they might split easier than the plastic ones do. There are various hard woods around here that are very pretty and I have thought about this for some time.
  13. OK I am going to make one or two sets of these available for people to listen to in their own speakers and see for themselves what they do. Chorus I and II, Fortes and Cornwall II's are candidates for these. Some commercial stuff is too like KP-301's. I will send a set off to the first person who requests this. Keep it for a few days and listen and then send them to the next person in line. Easiest way to wade though does it work or not is to see for yourself. PM me and get on the list. Guys I am relying on whoever gets them to be prompt in forwarding them to the next person on the list. Be forewarned you will need larger spade ends to hook up to the DE120 so have them on hand before you get them and save time for us all. PM me and I will get the ball rolling. I just might do this with the K-77 drop in too although the idea of drop ins for that horn have been well received these I have are a new deal. T
  14. Say I had not caught that yet as I had not started with schematics in front of me to change them. Pair of pliers and a smidge of wire will see those easily changed and thanks for the tip. I am probably going to make them AA's since I just got a pair of Type E's in for my super heresy build.
  15. OK let me ask you this. Did you have to rework the crossover for that? You know where I am heading with this and that is those Ti diaphragms are an upgrade just like these tweeters of mine are.
  16. The tweeter does not have an LPad. Claude and I were talking and discussing the higher efficiency of the DE120 over the stock Klipsch K79 and the easy way to fix that problem, if indeed someone decides it is one, is with an LPad. I do not intend to put one in because I LIKE how it sounds just as it is. Crossover is rebuilt and nothing else has been done and yes stock mids. You have a Chorus or Forte or Cornwall II get in line to hear a set as I am making one available.
  17. That would be me and mine sound great. There is a very easy solution and you can add an Lpad in there and adjust the tweeter to be what you want. I am seriously thinking of letting people be the judge and send a set of loaners out to anyone interested they pick up shipping and send them to the next person in line. Personally I like what I have and would not change a thing. It is like this for me. If you cup your hands over your ears you hear the higher notes and cymbals and little subtle acoustic things and when you remove your hands they go away. This new setup does exactly that for me and with my somewhat lacking hearing provided things that were lacking before. I don't know why Bob insists rebuilding the crossover is needed when there are threads on just this with adding resistors or LPads to the tweeter circuit. Claude pointed out to me how many speakers had LPads on them for that adjust to taste reason and sure enough two old Altecs I am rebuilding have just that as do a set of EAW's I have just rebuilt You PM me your address and I will send you a pair to try and you forward them to the next guy on the list or back to me. You hear these things you might hire Bob to do something later but it will be after you stick these in and I figure you might just stop right there. I have a set of La Scalas here right now with K-55-V soldered lug mid drivers, one of my tweeter lenses with DE120's on them and recapped AA's and I prefer the Chorus in direct side by side comparisons. I will say though that crossovers that old will sound better rebuilt and I do so to every set I get.
  18. Dayton APA150 then to speakers. Works fine for what they are since little speakers are just that.
  19. I had to change my location because it was offensive to some. My take on this is that while I have great sympathy for his end he is a very polarizing figure and this topic should be ended period. There are too many hard feelings on both side for it to ever remain civil so why put the temptation out there?
  20. Those HIE's turn into AA's when you change the 8uf to 13uf. I am doing so and have bought a set of type E's for my future super Heresy.
  21. I have been having trouble finding exact value caps too and really did not want to start using two when one would do, if I could find it. While I am not crazy about their prices Sonicap has 7uf and 8uf (and a 6 too) which was a problem recently finding exact values elsewhere. I figure designers and engineers had a reason for a 7uf or 8uf value and Sonicap had those. There is an engineering term called tolerance stack up. What it means is there are designed specs for a reason and if you start varying from that some variance may be all right but you start adding those little bits together and before you know it they have added up to being large enough to change the desired end result. One of the substitutes for a 7uf I have found was the Audyn 6.8uf which ended up being almost dead on for 7uf but then I have a way to accurately measure these and most do not. The next ones from Audyn may not be that way and really if you are going to want to pursue the best outcome you are going to need to be able to measure what you buy. Or at least start off with using correct value labeled components.
  22. Clicking the link just now showed $700 asking price. If they work you are not going to beat that deal any time soon Carl. Those days with Klipsch are gone and I am a bit shocked at how fast prices have risen in the last year.

If I can't sell them complete within two weeks they will be cut up. I will amend that in the OP I just forgot to add that in. I hate to scrap legacy things but I hate the pile of stuff more.
