Thanks for the responses! Much appreciated.

Will the Roxul/Green glue in any way deaden the room response or livin it do you think?

Building the walls with Roxul added inside will improve the sound of the music in the room and reduce the amount of sound traveling to the other side because the mineral wool absorbs air vibrations, therefore behaving similar to a bass trap. Adding Green Glue and a second layer of drywall reduces sound transmission to the other parts of the house and helps the music listening room by reducing the wall vibrations and resonances. Ideally both methods are installed together during construction.

I have both a new pair of heresy iv but it seems it lacks the low frequency response. I wanted to replace the woofers to a forte ii woofers to achieve the low frequency. I don’t want to add a sub woofer just to minimize electricity bills.

@Babet Double check that your speaker wire polarity is correct, before trying to change anything. Make sure the positive and negative wires are attached to the proper terminals at the amp and the speakers. If one speaker is out of phase, that condition will reduce the bass response.

Would insulating with sound damping insulation hurt the bass.

Insulating your floor and interior walls with mineral wool (Roxul Saf-N-Sound for example) will reduce the sound outside the room and help the bass inside the listening room.

Also, you should read up about techniques for using mass loaded vinyl or applying something like Green Glue and a second layer of sheetrock.

Is there any special paint I should use, and will painting the cabinets hurt the performance any at all.

Lacquer spray paint usually works well for this application. First, learn the best techniques and make sure to practice on something else. If you mask off all the parts that should not get painted, the sonic performance will not be affected.

I read that there was a certain series of LA Scalas that you could not get into to replace the woofers or drivers, if so, which series would it be ? Thanks for any info.

It is a false rumor, started by someone who never thought to look at the bottom of the somewhat heavy cabinet, where the access panel is located.

It is also possible that someone may have at one time glued the access cover closed on some speakers, causing grief for the next person that wanted to get in.

Is there any reason why you can't just use an equalizer to smooth out the LaScala's response curve?

If you have a parametric EQ, the setting for the bass is -7db @ 148Hz, Q 8

The MA352 amp I have does sound pretty damn good. Nvidia has made me some extra pocket money that is itching to be spent. A while back I was certain I needed a different DAC. I borrowed a few big buck dacs from audio dealers but couldn't find any improvement over what I have.

Have you considered getting the new Klipsch Jubilee speakers? That could be a big upgrade in the sound.

  8. I have an amp with meters. When the meters are indicating 15 to 20 watts, the peak indicator 150W RMS/channel LEDS will flash with the music. Of course it is a rare occasion with Klipsch Heritage speakers, but the point is that music is very dynamic and it is good to have enough power available when the need occurs.

My Klipschorns are powered by a McIntosh MA352, a 200watt per channel integrated amp. I am happy with the sound however I wonder if there is a better amp that is capable of a dramatic improvement in sound.

Hard to imagine that another amp could sound better than what you have, but it is possible that other amps might interact differently with the impedance curves and affect parts of the frequency response that might appeal to some ears. That would not be an "improvement" in sound, just a laborious way to EQ your system.

One other thing I noticed is Heritage Jubilee is rated at max output 125db while the JBL M2 is rated at max output 123db. Yet the M2 is recommended for small to medium rooms while the Jubilees are recommended for large rooms.

It is good to have a little headroom. 😊

I’m not sure why so many new members post in this section, as you can see by its description it’s for technical questions relating to the forum itself such as having trouble logging in, etc.

I wonder why about the same thing. Guessing it is because of key words (Klipsch, info) that direct the search algorithms to this section?

My limited understanding of the AMT is that it is a dipole radiator and does need to be open to the back. Does not stop one from ignoring that fact and trying it in other ways.

I have some AMTs (on a shelf, since upgrading to the Axi-2050 on K-402s). When I bought the AMTs new from Heil, there were no instructions about back wall spacing or interference. So, when I did use them, I covered the backs with thick sound absorbent material to reduce the potential phase problems from wall reflections. I like those Beyma units with the rear enclosure.
