  1. The Gorillaz with Madonna performance and Mary J Blige/U2 performance were outstanding. Kelly Clarkson was also very good, and I'm not really a fan, but credit where credit is due.
  2. Your daughter and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. It's very hard when your child is ill. Great pics.
  3. see how low they are willing to go on the cherries and get them
  4. When I get time to play with the system I'm going to try out the xover at 60. Might be better here too.
  5. This couldn't be more wrong. Size of sub is not the determining factor in how it sounds. Build quality of sub, enclosure, and amp are all factors. An SVS PC Ultra or a Klipsch RSW 12 will be night and day better than a sw 12II, but both are 12s. Sunfire true subs use 10" and 8 " drivers and they also are significantly better than a sw 12II.
  6. The current synergy line is quite good, better than the synergies I started out with. But if RF7s are in the budget for someone it's no brainer to reccomend those over the F3s. Unfortunatly some people in audio can get snobbish. If you like your synergies then don't worry what someone else says.
  7. I'm not saying the synergies are krap at all. I'm saying the RF5s and RF7s are a substantial upgrade over the F3s, which they are. It doesn't mean the synergies are krap. But there are better speakers out there. If we say the THX set are a better upgrade than the synergies does that mean the synergies are terrible. NO. It means that the THX are better that's all.
  8. 80hz mains set to large and bass out set to both(fronts+sub). Works very well in my room.
  9. check out the Dayton hdmi cables at parts express, you can get 3 meter cable for $25. and dayton makes good cables.
  10. I would get the RF7s as they are being discontinued, then an amp, then a sub. With a good amp the 7s put out some nice bass.
  11. Advances in speakers are much slower than advances in electronics. The current Synergies would be an upgrade over your Polks. The Reference series would be a massive upgrade over the Polks.
  12. Flip a quarter, both are excellent receivers
  13. The RF7s put out a great amount of bass with a good amp driving them. I just tried turning my sub off, fronts set to large, and bass out set to front only. The bass was impressive for not running with a stand alone sub. This is just an fyi since your thinking about getting the 7s and no sub for a while. You won't be disappointed. Oh and another vote to get the 7s []
  14. If you have wifi capability in your laptop then get an apple airport express. I use one to listen to internet radio and it sounds real good. Well real good for streaming off of the net.
  15. Magic fridge and the bear one. Also the Michelob amber football game.
  16. My sub has started to give a small pop every time I switch inputs or if it loses signal from a DVD like skipping chapters or layer changes. I have a 15" Dayton Titanic kit, Yamaha RX-V4600, and Pioneer 59Avi connected via i link/firewire. Any ideas what may be causing this?
  17. I run mine a little hot, about 2-3db high. I think most people run the sub a little over. Although I do know a couple of people that want everything perfectly equually balanced. It's all personal preference on sub levels.
  18. Most receivers reference level volume is at 00. At least on Yamaha, Denon, and Pioneer. Before running the test tones the volume should be set at reference level, then balence all of the speaker levels. This has nothing to do with the volume number at which you watch movies. If you balence all of your speaker levels to 85db with the volume at -35 then when you push the volume to 00 or higher you will risk distortion, clipping, and speaker damage. He can't set up his system by your numbers because he has different equipment in a different room. Running the sub hot is a personal preference. Some people leave everything equally balanced and others prefer to run it hot. That too will depend on room and equipment.
  19. Not at all. I have a 200 watt amp on my RC7 and RS7s and they sound great with plenty of headroom.
  20. The Sound&Vision disc is good for beginners. It has tutorials on what each calibration does. You'll need to set the volume on your receiver to 00. The 75db or 85db will depend on which disc you use to calibrate with. With the spl meter set to say 85 then when the needle is on 0 it's 85db. as said above set it to C weighting. And set it to slow response.
  21. Remember to check your speaker connections every few months. They can back off from vibrations.
  22. Yes SACDs are much better. Only you can decide if they are a must have.
  23. Very nice setup. Should be a great superbowl.
