  1. I have several in FLAC on my computer that I play using the Foobar2000 player. Works great. I plan to buy a pono once they become available after the preorders are filled.
  2. Yes, sorry. Got the model jumbled. I'm going to listen to some different genres this weekend and will give impressions. The on ear definitely seem like they will only be comfortable on small to medium ears.
  3. So, after trying some out, I changed my mind and decided on a pair of on ear phones. I grabbed a pair of Grado R2Se. Great feel and love the sound. Really well built too, and I like the light mahogany wood exteriors. Thanks again for all the feedback.
  4. Thanks for all that feedback. So, now back to OP's topic. How are you liking the new sub after a little time with her?
  5. I run the mains with a McIntosh MC2105. The center right now is run with an Outlaw Audio Monoblock amp. Like I said a few posts back, I mainly listen to music in stereo. Movies and surround sound are secondary to me and in my room the volume is not turned up that loud for movies. Why would the additional power to the center matter when it's rated for 100W and I'm nowhere near that?
  6. No, not even sure what that means (?). The room is about 20x14 and the RC25 sounds good. The center channel isn't as efficient as the mains and can't play as loud. You really need to cut back on the mains output because the center can't "keep up" with them. A phantom center is when you tell your receiver that you don't have a center and the center channel info goes to the RF and LF. speakers. When you sit in the middle, it sounds like you actually have a center channel hooked up. I did a distance setup and calibration on it with my sound meter and set the center to +5dB with the left main at -2dB and the right at -4dB (sub at -2dB). The center handles itself pretty well. I would like to try that phantom center though. Sounds pretty cool.
  7. No, not even sure what that means (?). The room is about 20x14 and the RC25 sounds good.
  8. not sure how very committed you are to buying a set of CW but for what it is worth(and this is just my opinion)you should also consider a set of Chorus ll which replaced the CW (it was ten years till the retro crowd convinced Klipsch to bring the CW back). The Chorus ll has a far better woofer which also handles a lot more power and the Chorus ll also has a significantly better modern hybrid mid horn along with the K79 tweeter and it has a much more domestic acceptable cabinet volume. You loose nothing in bandwidth either. Just so you know. I am sure there will be CW owners who will disagree but Chorus ll owners will tell you what they think also. Best regards Moray James. The Chorus II's don't have the bass the Cornwall's have IMHO... But Anyway I just posted a pair of Cornwall II's for sale.. Is New Jersey too far ? I have a pristine pair of oiled oak Cornwall II's with black grills with Bob Crites Crossovers.I posted them in the Garage Sale.. Photos coming. If interested I will get the photos up quickly as I can.. Thanks, appreciate the response, but I located and bought a set in Delaware the other day.
  9. Thanks guys. I'm driving them with my McIntosh MC2105. A great combination.
  10. Outlaw Audio has some awesome amps, especially their standard(17") width low profile monoblocks. Don't see the Model 2200's come up too often on the used market. I don't know if these will fit your application but these Marantz monoblocks are great also. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/152920-marrantz-ma-500-monoblocks-pair-26000-shipped/ ****Not actual photos of the ones that are for sale on this site.**** Bill Yeah, I've got one of the 2200s driving my center channel now, with a McIntosh MC2105 as my main stereo amp, and an Outlaw Audio 975 preamp/processor. I was hoping for a couple more 2200s to stack given their low profile and my limited space in my cabinet. Also looking at possibly a Rotel RB-976 as a cheap alternative to drive the center and rears.
  11. Looking for a pair of these to drive my rear speakers.
  12. Wow. I grew up in North Syracuse and my folks still live there. Do you know what finish they are and year? I just sent him a message asking the questions you asked. Would be best to have him communicate directly with you. Somehow or another getting each others phone numbers. Let me know. I actually located and purchased a nice set yesterday. Thanks anyway. I appreciate it.
  13. Just picked one of these SWs up this morning at best Buy, along with the matching R25 center channel speaker to round out a 5.1 system around my Cornwalls (front) and Heresys (back). I'm more of a stereo/music person than a movie surround person, so I wanted a decent SW and center without breaking the bank. These sound/perform/look very nice. And, it's nice to have an all-Klipsch speaker system.
  14. Picked them up this morning. These things were babied! In excellent condition and sounded great. Just got them home. Now to get them down to the basement and hooked up. Here is a photobucket: http://s279.photobucket.com/user/tjiann/library/Klipsch%20Cornwall%20II?sort=3&page=1
  15. Thanks folks. I'm going to go ahead and buy them, pending opening them up to inspect and hearing them. This guy has had them since 86. The year is on the speakers near the model text. He just retired and moved to a smaller house, so downsizing his setup. The speakers are in beautiful shape.
  16. OK. So, I have been looking for a pair of vintage Cornwalls and posted in garage sale forum. Ive found a really nice pair about 1.5 hours from home and was planning to pick them up tomorrow. They are C2s from 1986 and the guy is the original owner. The only problem is I asked him for the serial numbers and found out he removed the tags on the back years ago. So, he is asking $900. I think its a good deal given the excellent condition they are in. But the missing tags bothers me. Am I over-reacting? Just wanted to get opinions. Thanks.

  18. Looks like I found a really nice pair of 1986 Cornwall IIs in light oak w/brown grills in excellent condition about 1.5 hours drive from my house. Supposed to pick them up Thursday. Psyched. I'll post pics. Thanks folks! Tim
  19. Rip the CD to .wav file on your computer. No external drive needed. Your computer probably has stock software on there to do this. Or, better yet, there is plenty of freeware online that will allow you to rip them to FLAC files which is a lossless format, but the file size is smaller than .wav files so they don't take up as much hard drive space. Then download Foobar2000 for free as your player (there are others, this is the one I use and like) and you can play the FLAC files. That way, you get lossless high quality music on your computer that you can play through your stereo. Suggest you grab a 1 or 2 TB external hard drive as you will need the space once your collection grows. I bought a cheap PC and a 2TB external hard drive that is dedicated as my music server. I hooked it up via an HDMI cable to my Outlaw Audio 975 preamp which goes to my McIntosh MC2105 amp and out to Heresy I speakers and a subwoofer. Works great. I have a lot of HDtracks downloaded. Best digital sound quality. Of course, I still think my LPs sound better.
  20. I looked at the Grado RS-2 and the new Oppo. Even those seem to be made for portable players with thin wires and 1/8 plug, needing a 1/4 inch adaptor plug.
  21. As a newbie on the forum, I was just going back through this thread. Lot of interesting information. I noticed in the original post that you had asked if anyone knew of a good pre-amp for under $600. Just wanted to chime in that I bought the Outlaw Audio 975 pre-amp/processor about 6 months ago. It was just under $600 and gets great reviews. I really like it. Very compact and highly functional. My only complaint with it was no built-in phono pre-amp. I guess they could only build in so much to the small chassis. Had to buy a NAD phone pre-amp separately.
  22. I love my 12W Jolida Glass FX tube amp. I bought the matching tube DAC to go with it. My buddy uses his to drive his Cornwalls and it sounds great and gets loud. http://jolida.alexpapanicolaou.com/product/glass-fx-10
  23. So, I have recently set up a new lounge (man-cave) in my basement with my audio and guitar equipment. Right now I have a McIntosh MC2105 amp, Outlaw Audio 975 preamp, Oppo BDP103 BR/CD player, and Pro-Ject turntable with a pair of Heresy II speakers and a Polk subwoofer. I'm seeking out a pair of Cornwalls to replace the Heresys as the main speakers and ditch the subwoofer. To the point of this post. I want to get a decent pair of headphones to plug into the McIntosh amp. When I started looking around at headphones, it seems everything is geared towards portable players. What I want is a nice pair that are just for my stereo and don't have cheap thin wires and require an adaptor plug. Who makes good "old school" headphones for home stereo set-ups these days? Or are their vintage ones I should seek out instead? Thanks.
