  1. They are basically the same pre amp, the only difference is the 651 has a switch for both MM/MC carts. I have been very happy with mine as they have no hum whatsoever and are extremely quiet. You can get a refurbed 551 for $99.00 with warranty, and a 651 for $169.00 refurbed with warranty. I am contemplating getting the 651 now as I am looking to try out different MC carts. I use 2 51's with my Dual 1229Q, Dual 701 turntables and use 4 different cartridges between them to play around with different music types and all play exceptionally well for the price range.
  2. Is anyone familiar with this line of cartridges from Ortofon? I'm looking to do a MC cartridge on my Dual 701 and wanted to see about this cartridge,or another line that would be similar to the Ortofon line. I tried the Denon DL-110 and it wasn't for me. So I am looking for a different direction to go. I am most likely going to just use an external phono pre able to handle both MM/MC carts, unless I can learn a little about SUT's and how they work into the system. I already own the Ortofon OM40 and VMS 30E MKII cartridges, and would like to step up to something along the MC side . Any info is greatly appreciated.
  3. You should ask Matt if he has a class a set you can preview. If this one sounds amazing, a class a set will blow you away even more with the imaging they can give. It will sound slightly different from a sep, but brings things to a different level IMO.
  4. Their entry level starts at $1,000.00 and is nothing like entry level tables today. I don't own one, but after going there today, am contemplating getting one. They made an all acrylic table to "play around with" that was ridiculous. Weighs 68 lbs and the arm sits on a spiked tip. I'm far from being an audiophile, but I've never seen anything remotely close to that arm and the way it works.
  5. Yes, their main office and warehouse is about 15 minutes from me. Until today,I never knew this.
  6. Today I was treated to a very nice surprise. A guy I know was going to look at a turntable and asked for my help. I thought we were going to a "used audio dealer", but realized when we got where we were going,it was the actual warehouse where the tables are made. We hung out and watched them build about 5 tables by hand, listened to music on them, and actually got to hang out with the inventor, and his son who now runs the "family business". I saw some of their prototype arms and designs, a few one off tables the old man made for himself, and a few of the 3d printed arms in different lengths and styles. The guy who brought me there wound up getting a $3500.00 table for $2,000.00 with about $600.00 in upgrades for free. And the cool thing was they built it for him right in front of us. No hard selling tactics, and nothing but a pure joy and pleasure to deal with. The son's wife runs the back office, and everyone treats each other like family. Some of the tables they are working on are 100 lbs. Felt like a kid in a candy store.
  7. Is anyone familiar with this cartridge? I am curious to see how it fares against the Ortofon OM40, Ortofon VMS30E MKII, Pickering XV-15-1200 stylus and the Stanton 681 EEE. Only thing I know is it's from the 1960's
  8. Go with a newer model then, the 675 is actually a nicer receiver.677 also.
  9. If you look at my signature below you will see what I have in mine. Any of the receivers I have will do very well with them.
  10. If you are willing to use a speaker bracket, I have an extra set the speakers sit in for mine. I'd be willing to sell them. You can PM me if interested. They hold up to 40 lbs per speaker and I have a pair of RB-25's in them now on my walls.
  11. I wish I still had a cat. Damn dogs are no good for that. Now if it's the cat inside the undies there in the profile pic, go ahead and send her.
  12. we are supposed to get up to 24 inches or so and up 67 mph winds in mid and south Jersey. I am right on that cusp and it is already falling by me now. We are supposed to get hit with 4 high tides like Long Island due to the full moon and I am about 1 mile or so from the water as well. They are talking power outages due to the winds and wet heavy snow. Generator is out back under a table and gassed up, extra gas as well. I think I'd take the 1 inch of rain over this snow. Slow and steady overnight with us also, with a slight stoppage, and then a very big pick up with 2-3 inches per hour And to boot, we got a field mouse in the attic scratching and chewing last night and already can hear it tonight. Out come the traps.
  13. demo both on speakers similar to what you have/want. I have Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, and all have different sounds to them.
  14. So after using it for 6 days and a good 50-60 records, it seems a little too laid back for me. My Ortofon VMS 30E MKII sounds better to me, along with the Ortofon OM40. It does have better mids than my Stanton 681EEE, but lacks in bass and highs against the Stanton. So I think I'm going to return this, unless someone wants to purchase it. I paid $175.00 new, so I'd let it go for that with shipping included. Otherwise it will be shipped back to where I got it from over in Japan.
  15. This is what my plan is for one of them, maybe 2 if I do the horn loaded sub.As for pricing, if the market dictated they are worth $100.00, I'd sell them at that price, and I would also guarantee them. If the market dictates more, then I'd do more. If I saved someone hypothetically $50.00 on an amp that's worth $250.00, that's 20%. If I sold for less than $200.00 as I stated above, it would be more. But at the same time, if I can make more that doesn't make me greedy. Even between $150.00-$200.00 is much more of a discount than most are going to find. If I go by Ebay numbers, they are selling at $225-$250.00 used, and up to $275.00 new. To alleviate the headaches of how this forum turns things into heated discussions on everything,I' m inclined to just go through Ebay or Craigslist. Anyone on here who has dealt with me on sales knows I'm extremely easy to deal with, but when things start turning,I'd rather not have the headache. I appreciate the feedback on the comments on whether the amp is decent or not, but think I will go the route of selling somewhere else.
  16. 1st off I didn't put them up for sale yet, 2ndly, if someone doesn't want to buy them, they don't need to. And as I stated above, I said That is a statement, and not an advertisement for sale, especially since I don't have them yet. I asked the question to see about the amp 1st,and potential sales 2nd. As most on here don't buy at "retail prices" I'd most likely wind up selling on Ebay anyways. Whether I sell them at $10.00 or $250.00 is irrelevant to what I paid for them. Now having some of the feedback that has been given, and understanding they sell for new just above what I was contemplating, I don't know where I'd price them out yet, but again it doesn't matter what I paid for them does it? Even used if I were $50.00 less than new,and they worked does that make someone greedy for "flipping something"? For the same matter, someone just purchased a KV 4 and is flipping it,not one person said "you paid this much for it, you shouldn't sell it for more than this". They also didn't say what they paid for it, but again it's irrelevant. If market value is what it is, who cares? If the market value isn't $200.00 per amp, then it isn't $200.00 per amp and my price will be adjusted for that. As for selling them on another site, that's most likely what I'd be doing anyway, my post was to find out sound quality as I may keep one for myself, and then the potential to pass them on to someone if they wanted something like this. No sales post has gone up, and most likely won't be going up. I am basically offering these up if someone were to be interested prior to being listed elsewhere. If there's no interest, there's no interest. But I also am not looking to get top dollar on them through this site. If market dictates they are $150.00,then that's where they'll go out at.
  17. well I guess I will take them then. As stated, I see them on Ebay selling for between $225-275, so they will be going up for sale. I will most likely keep one, the other 3 will go up for sale.If anyone is interested PM me. I guess I will blow them out at $200.00 plus shipping. I will test them of course before hand.
  18. Well there's 4 of them,so I was contemplating using them on my towers for one and possibly selling the others. I don't know if they would be an upgrade to my Yamaha RX-A2020 or not.
  19. Looking for opinions on this amp. There is a person who is selling 4 for $250.00 combined. All work. I don't know anything about them , but I see they are selling for $225.00-$275.00 on Ebay. Worst case I can flip them.
  20. I agree with Mookie on the horns, I would also use maybe a wire brush if you can't pressure wash them. Or use a paint remover. The rustoleum would also be my pick as well. Not that any of the other recommendations are wrong, just differing ways.
  21. yes but look at the quality, and when you paint, the left handed are better for audiophile sound acoustics as the paint goes on differently. The acoustics are inverted so you won't need to use $1,000 cables or wiring.
  22. I'd use a 1/4 inch nap if you did decide to use a semi gloss or satin finish. The roller sleeve shouldn't be pne of the lower ended ones either. A 1/4 inch nap will give a better finish.Make sure you also sand in between coats.I like using a nice steel wool. Start with 0 if already sanded down and finish off with 000 when finish coats are being done. What's wrong with a left handed roller sleeve?
  23. OMGosh!!! I want video of him peeling that "wrap" off. I can see the frustration starting already. It would be best to start at a corner, don't you think, Jim? Well 1st he needs to remove all the drivers so the plastic doesn't "Stick" , then he needs to start in a corner.
  24. the_sloth told me to let you know this
