    Looking to buy a TV

Right now the best TV on the market is 65". Not sure I could go that small... but the good thing with any Tech, product lines update frequently & other models can catch up quickly. Soon there will be a larger 70-80-90 version that meets the same quality of the current winner.
  4. edit post # 29: with Black Friday Bundle deals of $299 & $349 ================== Whether you plan to use the PS4 for games or movies, it seems Sony is finally getting ready to announce a price drop. An online "oops" moment from Target (which has now been pulled) gave an indication that the announcement is coming soon. In order to compete XBOX One has been at $349 for quite some time now, so now the PS4 will soon be dropping to that same price point. Early info suggests that the new lower price will also include a Game Bundle, that will offer even more value. Rumor has it the price drop announcement could be available at end of October... to compete with the October 27th launch of (mega title) Halo 5, on XBOX One.

I do like his watch. Hamilton makes a quality piece. Very nice execution, gonna have to check it out (the watch, not the movie). lol
  8. Not offended in the slightest. But when someone calls members idiots, snake oil salesmen & that the forum is full of stupidity & fools... I have no problem offering up a response. Way different than being offended. But then again, that only contributes to feeding the troll. My mistake was taking the bait.

Thanks, Nismo. I kind of knew that 4K was reported to be obsolete already, but I never knew why. I hate it when the "standards" change. You never know what to buy that won't be out of date the minute you get it home, much like PC's were back in the 90's. I just upgraded to 5.1 a couple of years ago, I'm not yet ready to change. Does Dolby drive the industry? Or are they trying to drive the industry, much like Sony tried to do back in the old Betamax vs VHS tape days? I went all in for Betamax, and we all know how that turned out. I've been planning on creating a thread to discuss the topic, it just covers a lot of ground from a technical aspect. Now that we are moving to 4K... we won't be going backwards, 4K will still be around. (just like now with everything 1080p, we won't be going back to 720p). But with today's current 4K displays, the selling point is about having "more pixels". The new standard does not rely on having "more pixels". I'll create a new thread for the topic later this week.
  10. Hopefully back to the original discussion at hand, kinda too bad that Dean might have done his last RF-7's. I'm sure all those that currently have them, enjoy his work. I'm close enough I could drive my pair down to Dean, but at this point my "original" 7's are like a comfortable pair of shoes or favorite jeans. I can redact my comments, just to keep the thread on track, no problem.
  11. Then congratulations for the most poorly worded post of the day. lol

Sadly yes. GB is already in the works. Hey Hollywood... Who ya gonna call for an original idea??
  13. Great opportunity for someone who already has (1) R-115SW... to go dual...... **cough** busht4169
  14. That and the flame baiting signature. Kinda loses all credibility at that point. -------- As an original owner of RF-7's... I've long thought about sending them to Dean for an update. But I'd have to buy a used/replacement pair of 7's for the interim. Or do something really crazy & pick up a pair of LS.

    RB75's $400

Almost grabbed a pair back in the day, but since I was using them for surrounds... I opted for the RB-35's. The 75 & the 35's have the 8" woofer, making them pair well my RF-7's....the 75 has the better tweeter. But if I recall, the 35's were about half the price of the RB-75's. In my instance, configured in a surround setup, both would offer a similar experience. That said, I wouldn't mind having a pair of 75B's at today's prices. Hope someone here grabs them.

Olivia Wilde's better half. As a bonus... maybe she'll get a role as well.
  17. DIY could be a fun project with DAES (Dolby Atmos Enabled Speaker)... but way above my pay grade. For me it was easy... I let Jay L do all the hard work. Good luck!

Same here. I've only been to the Cinema once in the past 10+ years. Always a more enjoyable audio & visual experience at home. I do plan to check out a Theater that has a fully implemented Dolby Vision experience, complete with HDR & Dolby Atmos. http://www.dolby.com/us/en/platforms/dolby-cinema.html The new video standard that Dolby is establishing for the Cinema, is going to make 4K for the home obsolete. Well, 4K might eventually be ubiquitous for the home environment, much like 1080p is ubiquitous in today's world... but 1080p is not the selling point nor is it what makes a current display better than another. Likewise (with the new standard), 4K is not what will make the display better. 4K only adds more pixels. Dolby's new standard... does not rely on adding more pixels. It creates better pixels. For example, a 1080p display with Dolby's new standard will be superior to any current 4K display. Moving forward, 4K will be the standard... but it's not what will make the display great. Obsolete reference might have been a bit extreme, "unimportant" would be more accurate. Just one reason I'm holding off on 4K right now. In the near future, displays for the home will offer far more than what 4K currently offers.

In a different thread I posted about the talents of composer Harry Gregson-Williams who created iconic & unforgettable the scores for the Metal Gear series. Turns out Harry Gregson-Williams also did the score for The Martian. I'm sure the score was excellent.
  22. No need for DIY... just install in-ceiling speakers: instant Atmos that meets all required spec. Unless in-ceiling speakers are not an option with your space? Prior to having availability to any upward firing modules, I had numerous (non-Atmos) direct radiating & wide dispersion speakers in place. They worked to an extent, by simply throwing sound above... but nothing that achieved the accuracy & effectiveness of the RP-140SA's.
  23. Based on all of Jay's previous posts regarding passive filtering, directivity and frequency response (just to name a few aspects)... I doubt a proper or effective DIY Dolby Atmos Enabled Speaker that meets with Dolby's spec is on the immediate horizon. If I was in the need for new towers, I wouldn't hesitate to grab the 280FA's. Switching gears, I would install in-ceiling speakers before an attempt to create a DIY project, that may or may not be effective (since I would be guessing at Dobly's required spec). In-ceiling would be both effective & a cost effective route.

Deal of the day indeed. I wouldn't sell mine for that. Congrats all around.
