  1. These dry Januarys lead to long wet Februarys. I have read that several times. Still no idea what you said.
  2. If you don't plan to use the extra height for yourself, the only advantage is resale. I would pay extra for a house with 9 ft clearance in the basement. Not sure it is worth an extra $6000 or tying up 6gs until you sell, but there you go. Looks like you already have your mind made up. Buy some nice speakers with the money and enjoy it. That is the type of answer you would expect from this forum, run with it.
  3. These are great for filling in the very bottom end. They work well for music, but I wouldn't recommend them for Home Theater. Not enough BOOM! unless you add more of them. Diz uses four for his music. Two in a small room do the trick for me with my Belles
  4. I'll trade these for a set of those H IV, MDF or not. Small progress. Too cold to work in the garage, so moved indoors.
  5. I would have agreed with you until i watched their commercials telling me how wonderful they are. You must have missed them. The MFL
  6. That was the plan, to eventually pick a team to root for. Unfortunately, apathy has taken root and I just don't care.
  7. The NFL goes out of it's way to promote my apathy. I'm from St. Louis and they took the Rams away (i know we stole them first but they took the Cardinals.......) Now no Clydesdales, another St. Louis tradition. I did not see the 4th quarter. Nothing had caught my attention to that point, so I gave up.
  8. Still get a kick out of 16 ply birch. Just looks cool.
  9. That's exactly how it works! That's the very first class in lawyer school! I have a perfect example of that, but dont want to mess up this nice for sale thread.
  10. Tuned our nice again. I still owe you another set, you ready to start? A little disappointed to hear about the lawyer thing, but you get a pass cuz you like woodworking and speakers.
  11. This will make my third pair! Along with two pair of LS and two pair of Belles! And misc others (RB 61, KSB 1.1, 2.1 AW525....) It may be time for an intervention. I only stay on this forum to feel (quasi) normal. Some make me look like a slacker.
  12. OK, I need a winter project so I am going to build a mate for this lonely HIP. I will use aluminum angle to trim it out. It wont match perfectly but will look nice (enough)! If anyone stumbles on a neglected set of alum trim for and HIP (or LS bass bin) let me know, I would prefer they match. Also looking for a handle to match.
  13. I agree with the others about skipping the tape. Does DIY audio give you options on ohm rating? I run my two off a single outboard sub amp (dayton) that would have trouble running two 4 ohm loads, so I got the 8 ohm version from Anarchy (don't think they still carry the driver) The Tang Bands at PE work great too but they are only available in 4 ohm. Just more food for thought. Have fun with it.
  14. Did I miss this? What driver or you planning to use?
  15. There is only one good time to put it in, and that is before you slam it shut. My concern is that if you look closely at the labyrinth pattern, each section taper out and gets larger and each turn is subsequently larger in volume. Thus the idea of folding a horn. If you add this foam, you reduce this expanding volume at each turn. May be an issue, maybe not. Just one man's opinion.
  16. didn't use any either. I did see a photo using the liner but it was after I had done mine. I dont think it was in the original plans.
  17. Just try to behave yourself! I don't want this forum shut down by the higher ups. I need this venue to stay up to date on pandemics and such. Speaker guys have all the correct information. I also need cut and paste answers to whatever question I may have. My computer doesn't do the google so I need this service too. Occasionally, I do have a speaker related question or story to tell as well.
  18. All accessible vertical and horizontal seams were sealed with the Loctite adhesive caulk before the top was added. By putting a continuous bead of the adhesive on the entire maze and exterior boards prior to laying the top piece on, I in essence sealed them off as well (to the best I could) Just playing with the cards I was dealt and doing the best I could come up with. Without Richie's rubber arms, I couldn't figure out a better solution. You got one? Monday (february) is right around the corner, hang in there.
  19. I forgot about dry January. Bless his heart. Bet its rough on him to see reality for 30 straight days. Monday's gunna be rough on us as he will thinks he's funny again. It's so sad.
  20. oh, you were trying to be funny!?!?!? don't
  21. I pretty much did what Neil said above. The outside edge of my top plate was dadoed so I knew it was squared up. The internal "labyrinth" panels were slightly recessed from the outside panels so when the top was laid on, they were all flush. I used dead weight to apply down pressure knowing it could not slide around with the perimeter secured in the dados. For good measure, I counter sunk a couple screws in the middle. Doubt I needed them but did anyway. I was doing duratex, so did not see it as an issue.
  22. I used Locktite sealant on all of my seams. Just figured, "why not"!
