I'm in the same boat with my beat up pair of LaScalas that served as a highschool PA system for 50 years (plenty of names and even a heart carved into the tops). I'd probably be willing to let the extra one go if you were closer (Colorado) and visual condition wasn't a concern.

Some very good ideas there. The house hasn't been designed yet so I can adjust the air gap to whatever it needs to be, whether digging the basement lower or raising the entire house a foot either will work for me. Even though this project is quite extravagant, I am trying to build it with a budget. None of the heritage speakers I've acquired have matching finishes save for a set of Klipschorns and Cornwalls that were sold together, though I don't think the Cornwalls will make it into the home theater anyway. The way I see it is, you shouldn't be able to see the front and rear Klipschorns at the same time anyway so do they really need to match haha? All my speakers are of 1970s vintage (minus a beat up pair of shorthorns. Still don't know what I'm going to do with those, but thought they were cool). I didn't think about mounting the Heresys face down. I would probably mount them slanted facing the seating either suspended or recessed into the air gapped ceiling at an angle. Everything is possible at this point.

That is very similar to what I am thinking of doing for the home theater in my new build. I want to have my home theater room basically be a box surrounded by at least 2 feet of air gap on all sides (including 1 foot between the "real" ceiling and the home theater ceiling) so that I can easily access all parts and run/change wiring and prevent sound leakage. I plan on a fixed acoustically transparent screen running to the edges of the Klipschorns and burying the center LaScala behind the screen in an elevated position just like you did with the Belle. I also plan on getting a pair of Belles eventually for the side channels. Not sure what I'll do for Atmos yet. Probably just go with traditional in ceiling speakers, but i could also hang a couple pairs of Heresy speakers maybe?

I do have a R-115SW that's pulling the low frequency duty in the home theater, perhaps I should move that into the Klipschorn room.

Should I be looking at something like the Marantz MM8077? It's 150W per channel, gives me room for 2 more channels (I'll eventually want 7 total), it's roughly in the same price range as 2 CXA81s, and it's available on Amazon.

Are you saying the CXA81s should be moved over to the LaScalas when I'm ready for the full home theater setup and get something more powerful for the Klipschorns (possibly the 840As) then? Most of the home theatering is done by the RF7-IIs at the moment so the Klipschorns can be kept at lower volume for non-music in the mean time

That is way beyond what I had planned or have the resources for. Am I making a mistake trying to pull double duty with music and movies with the CXA81 amps? What would be the minimum watts in your opinion to drive Klipschorns for movies? I'm currently using an old Denon AVR-X2000 (150 Watts per channel) which seems to work okay for movies but lack luster for music. I've also tried a Pioneer SC-95 (135 WPC) that sounded pretty good with them, but that's currently deployed to my at RF7-II based system with Atmos. I eventually want to make the Klipschorns be the primary home theater speakers, but that will require a house with more room (not a near term goal). I was hoping to repurpose those amps for that goal when the time comes.

Ah, I think I miscommunicated. I have 4 Klipschorns and one LaScala in that room so it will be one channel per speaker (2 channels for each CXA81 and wherever ends up driving the LaScala). If there's a more suited mono amp you would suggest, my Cornwalls in the other room could take up the 840A once that's working right.

This is all excellent information and was very helpful! I have been swayed I'm the direction of the CXA81. I run a LaScala as the center for this setup for movies and TV (unused for music/ 2 channel so no worries there). Would one of the lesser Cambridge Audio amps sound out of place paired with the CXA81s on the Klipschorns? I have an AZUR 840A with a run away volume issue I plan fixing or would a Cambridge Audio AXA35 suffice for this center channel task? Sorry in advance if this follow up question is out of place in the 2 channel subforum.

Title says is it all. I'm looking for an integrated amp to use for my Klipschorns. I'm leaning heavily toward the Cambridge Audio CXA61 or CXA81 amps and was wondering if I'm really buying anything with the extra money going with the higher end amp. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the wattage though better sound would sway me in one direction. I'm not married to the brand either, the only requirement is getting them on Amazon as I have some credits to use there. I'm actually needing 2 pairs of amps for 4x Klipschorns in the same room (I use them for movies as well as music). I would have to go a bit extra out of pocket to get 2x CXA81 amps, but if it is worth it then I am willing to do so. Klipschorns are 1970s vintage with type AA crossovers.

Is that a PWK signature on one of those?

If only half way wasn't still a 24 hour round trip. I'd love to add this to my stubby short horns in a 3 channel setup!

And would you want mismatches? I'm only considering it as a center channel for putting behind a screen so I'm not overly concerned with it not matching. Also finding another single Klipschorn in this area could be pretty tough unless you're willing to travel for another.

Looks to be the same one I referenced from Offer Up a few weeks back for $1500 and has the same serial number. I'm definitely interested in it, but trying to put together the funds. Was hoping for a Belle for the center but I wonder if a 3rd K-horn would work? It would seem that I would need to get an acoustically transparent screen in that case.

I recently acquired a pair of the shorter shorthorns that need a ton of exterior work and I'd love to have a good condition example to compare to while fixing them up. A 3 channel shorthorn setup wouldn't be to shabby either! What are you thinking for price and would you be willing to ship it?
