  1. Well they're a little closer than they were when they were in Portland... Perhaps a job for the Cornwall vault? Best, triceratops
  2. Costco buys some stuff "grey market" aka unauthorized distribution. At times a shipment to a European distributor, etc will be diverted and wind up in Costco. They have done this with Cannondale and Trek bicycles over the years among other things. They are not an authorized reseller of those bicycles so the manufacturers' warranty is void, but Costco provides their own warranty. Don't know if the situation with Klipsch is similar, but I wouldn't be surprised. Best in horns, triceratops
  3. Hi Patrick, Sorry about that! I didn't know if I was going to be able to purchase the '62's when I bid on the '68's--and I did not know your Ebay ID! Is Oregon a driveable distance for you? I would be willing to sell them to you for what I paid, as long as they are not needed for a transaction with Justin. I picked them up from the seller so there are no shipping charges in them yet. Alternately you could get the Cornwall vault lined up or we could get a crate built for them. Send me an E-mail and we can work it out. I just would like to retain one pair of Cornwalls close to the vintage of my Khorns. Best, triceratops
  4. Thanks, Michael! By the way, I just heard back from Justin. He is working on cleaning the grilles. Which reminds me--Wheelman wrote: "If the grills are stained. You may be able to get them out with oxy clean stain removal spray. I did this with a pair of my old white surrounds. It worked like a charm. Set the grills down spray them all over lightly with the oxy clean, and then set a fresh clean older towel over it. It will suck up all the dirt, and crap. Leave it there over night. I told a buddy of mine about this and he did it to a vintage amp and could not believe how new his grill turned out. I never got to see the amp though afterwards, bummer. I got a stain out of white speaker grills so it worked pretty good for me. You got some really good speakers there welcome to the forum" One point of clarification: It may be obvious to everyone on the Forum that the kind of cleaning Wheelman describes is only possible if the grills are separated from the speakers. The later generation Heritage speakers have removable grills, whereas the older '60's speakers do not! The grill cloth is wrapped around and stapled to the motorboard on these, so you would have to remove the speakers from the motorboard, then remove the motorboard from the cabinet before doing this kind of cleaning. Otherwise potential damage to the drivers--not good. Like I said, maybe everybody knows this already, but thought I'd better post that just in case. Better to be safe than sorry! 5. Thanks for the nod, Charles! As of last week I am the new owner of 1962 Cornwall pair 3A28 and 3A29 from Seattle. One of the reasons I wanted the '62 Cornwalls is they are closer in age to my 1960 Khorns than my other Cornies. Gilbert also wanted them and is specifically looking for some '62 Cornwalls. Gilbert has been very gracious about my purchase of these speakers and if they ever leave my hands it will be to Gilbert's collection. I sent an E-mail to Justin (owner of the '63's who started this thread) to let him know I would be very interested in buying his '63 Cornwalls should he care to sell them now, in a few months, or 10 years down the road (he's nearby in Salem). No response from him yet--perhaps it is not the right time to ask that question of someone just discovering the sonic beauty of Heritage Klipsch! If Justin was to sell his Cornwalls, I would then pass my '62's on to Gilbert and hopefully increase harmony in the universe. I will post some pictures of the '62 Cornwalls in another thread so as not to totally hijack this one. Justin, if you're still reading I could also provide some nice later vintage Cornwalls in addition to cash if you prefer not to be totally without the wonderful Klipsch Cornwall sound. You could borrow one of these pairs ('68 verticals or '75 horizontals) for a while to check out how they sound beside yours. You're also welcome to visit my digs and check out the '76 Belles, '76 Heresy's, and '60 Khorns. My email is thepieboy@comcast.net Best in horns, triceratops
  6. I would love to attend a hope gathering. I wonder if we should wait until next year to try and mobilize as many Forum members as possible and maybe get the official sanction and presence of Trey, Amy, etc. That said, I didn't attend the Indy gathering so I could really focus on making it to Hope first. If there's a get together I will try to attend, but it will depend on the weekend in September and my job responsibilities for that month. Best in horns, triceratops
  7. Thanks, Bill--transporting the speakers was easy and and enjoyed meeting Ryan as well. Nice to see this stuff get handled gently in a local transaction. Best, triceratops
  8. 46 cabinets? Michael, you are a madman! I mean that as a compliment, of course. Best in horns, triceartops
  9. Reminds me of that old Pink Floyd album cover "Umma Gumma" showing the band's touring gear all laid out in a symmetrical display! Very cool photo, Bill! Best in horns, triceratops
  10. The Chorus II's are set up and crankin' and Bill's son's pad in Portland. Rock on! Best in horns, triceratops
  11. Well, I butchered the quote a bit! Thanks, DizRotus! Best in horns, triceratops From the above mentioned SpeakerLab thread: Our conversation included a discussion about why Klipsch stopped licensing its designs to EV and why Klipsch did not make kits. Both options prevented Klipsch from controlling the quality of the end product. PWK stated that he didn't want his name associated, in any way, with products that were inferior. Is he spinning in his grave now? The short conversation bounced from the above topic to the merits of Jack Daniel and back to EV with lightning quickness. In mid syllable of a discussion of malt whiskey, PWK asked, "Do you know what a patrician is?" Before I could respond that its an EV speaker he said, "A patrician is someone who steps out of the shower to take a leak."
  12. Paul Parrot wrote: "I think what is going on here is similar to the Hartsfield speakers. The 'bigger, pricier, rarer' syndrome vs. run-of-the-mill Klipschorns. Contrarians are going to go for the more esoteric." I think this is absolutely on the money. I see the same thing with guitars and guitar amps all the time. There is a certain "gee-whiz" factor about something rare or seldom seen, whether it sounds better or not. I'm curious how these early Patricians with the 18-inch woofer compared to the later ones with the 30-inch woofer. And I'll never again be able to see a Patrician without thinking of the PWK anecdote recently recalled by a forum member (hope I've got this right--sorry I don't remember who posted this): PWK: Do you know what a Patrician is? FM: An Electro-Voice corner horn licensed by Klipsch. PWK: No. A Patrician is someone who gets out of the shower to take a pee.
  13. Hi Andy, Great to hear from you and thanks for correcting me! Cornwalls were not shipped from the factory with risers attached regardless of the corner construction or veneer style. Seems like Forum members should follow that same strategy when we are reshipping these speakers. Thanks Andy--as always it's nice to hear the definitive story on this stuff! Best in horns, triceratops
  14. Codhead, This is a fascinating observation--the cabinet construction with butt-edge corners instead of mitered corners was used on the less "fancy" Cornwalls (e.g. CBR) and these models would not have typically had risers installed. The problem you describe would only surface after risers were added to a butt-edge cabinet by the consumer--and only after the cabinet was stressed by shipping. It would doubtless be no problem for a Cornwall just sitting in the living room. My thought is that any butt-edge cabinet with risers should have the risers removed before shipping. Thanks for your excellent detective work and sharing your insight with the Forum members! Best in horns, triceratops
  15. We miss you, Andy--hope you are safe and well! And happy 4th to you! Best in horns, triceratops
  16. Unfortunately, my advice is worth squat these days, because I'm totally out of date with most developments over the last decade or so. When I retire from my current non-vet job, I'm hoping to get current on the vet stuff again and get an Oregon license to practice as a retirement gig--maybe in about 10 years from now. I figure I can't lose too much more, since I've already forgotten pretty much everything I once knew! Best in horns, triceratops
  17. I have a vet license in PA, but since I haven't lived there for 13 years it doesn't get used much... triceratops
  18. Hi m00n, What you're describing is a classic pattern of pruritis (itchy skin) and excoriation (scratching the crap out of the itchy skin) most likely caused by flea bite dermatitis (inflamed skin due to an allergy to flea saliva). Animals who get sensitized to fleas can have a reaction with just a bite or two--like people who are sensitive to certain foods. If you look closely in the inflamed area you may see traces of what looks like dirt, which would actually be flea feces. The vet will probably give your cat a shot of depo-medrol (a long-acting anti-inflammatory) and treat for fleas. If we were in Pennsylvania I could fix you up, but I'm not licensed in Oregon. Best in horns (keratinized epithelium), triceratops
  19. Hi Frzninvt and Gilbert, Thanks for thinking of me you guys! The unfinished back is because they are WR or "Walnut Raw" so the veneer was originally unfinished as was the plywood back. Audible Nectar has a pair very similar to these (same year too) that came from this area, except that the grilles on Audible's are removable velcro style with cane cloth--possibly a later upgrade? I asked the seller if the finish by the original owner is oil, varnish, or whatever and if there are any repairs or sanding around the area of water damage. I also asked if I could inspect the speakers. No response yet. I'll be driving up to Portland in a few days to deliver Norcuron's Chorus II's to another Forum member. I'm still hot for the '62 Vert Cornwalls in Seattle because of my 1960 Khorns being close in age. I am driving to Seattle for my new job in my new company van so those are right in my backyard too. I know Gilbert is interested in those too, and hope we can work something out. In any case, it is cool to see this great stuff coming out of the Klipsch deep freeze! Best in horns, triceratops
  20. If it were not for my wife's veto these would be in my collection now, but as of this posting they are still available. If you are interested in Mark's speakers but don't have the vehicle to transport them, I'm happy to help out if it is someplace I normally drive to. I travel to various Oregon cities including Portland, Bend, Roseburg, Coos Bay and all points in between about every other week. And if you are in the Seattle area or some point between, I will be making a trip up there in about one week. So let me know if I can help--it would be nice for these speakers to stay in the Forum family, because they are such fine examples of Chorus II's. I should also mention that I have no connection with the seller. Best in horns, triceratops Eugene, Oregon
  21. Hi Norcuron, I sent you a PM. Best regards, triceratops
  22. I have a pair of these University C15W's. It is my understanding that the C15W's were used in some early Khorns. They are very substantial looking speakers with cast basket, etc. Mine are an older paint scheme, metallic green and gold. The bad news is, I tried to load them into some 70's era LaScalas and they wouldn't fit! The flange on the cast basket was a little wider than the stamped steel flange on the familiar K-33's and the LaScala cabinet comes right up aginst the woofer flange. It's nothing you couldn't fix with a chisel, but I couldn't go that far with the experiment. I'll probably bolt them into some Khorns or Cornwalls where the space is not so tight! best in horns, triceratops
  23. Trey, I sent you a PM. Best in horns, triceratops
  24. Russ, This has probably been asked before, but is MD4134 identical to the old Klipsch cane grill cloth or is it just very similar? Were there multiple suppliers of this stuff over the years? Any variations in the appearance of the cane material on the original factory grills? Thanks for your help. Best in horns, triceratops
  25. Hi Rich, Very cool post, and a righteous sentiment! I have to mention that a few years ago Paul had an autographed copy of an old album by the Fixx that he offered to Forum members. I have a friend that has been into the Fixx since the old days and has seen the band live a number of times (yeah, they're still touring). I told Paul about my buddy and Paul boxed up the album and sent it to him! Paul, here's to ya--I'm buying the beer next time I'm in Bend! Have you checked out the St Francis School brew pub yet?
