    So as a European, I stay away from US import goods.

    Germany made, pro and inventor of the headphones, mine are DT990 Pro open version, but existing in semi-closed DT880 and closed DT770.

    Without going too far off topic compared to vinyl records. I have been using multi amplification since the early 90s, I often preferred the sound of the SS in the bass and I like the valves or the smooth SS in the midrange and treble. In this area there are several schools, those who swear by mono-amplification, those who multi-amplify with the same identical amplifiers at the top and at the bottom, etc ... With different amplifiers the advantage and to have the dynamics, the firmness and the amplitude of a good SS in the bass (the PAS audio of your compatriot of Schwarzach are fantastic from this point of view with a very soft price at Thomann) and the smoothness of a tube amp by example above. There are people who say that it is no longer homogeneous, I like this solution, you have to form your own opinion with your own tastes. Be careful with the SS solution in the bass and valves at the top, it is necessary to be able to adjust the sound levels of the amps with at least one volume control as on the PAS audio 2002PCA.

    I find in my collection Nancy (J. Coltrane Ballads), Petite Fleur (Sidney Bechet) and Le Boléro (Ravel), but on CDs, not on vinyls Argggggrrr 😜 and I live at 8 miles to Arles, but have not L'Arlésienne 😝

    I saw Ferrari races in 1994 on the Spa Francorchamps circuit (some say it is the most beautiful circuit in the world, especially because of the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge). I slept in a hotel in Liège, then I took the road between Spa and Luxembourg through the Belgian Ardennes: what a beautiful region !

    I discovered "Morning Phase", indeed the bass is deep and punchy on my CWIII 😍

     

    As always in HiFi you need good equipment, but also a good implementation of the system, at home:

     

    1- an SS amplifier for the bass
    2- a good preamp with a tone control centered on 30Hz: Mc C504
    3- a vent from my CWIIIs sealed with felt to tune the Cornwall lower, perfectly suited to my listening room
    4- Speakon Neutrik sockets on my SS amplifier with professional Cordial cables, inexpensive but in OFC copper, 13awg section to connect my amps and speakers: efficiency and reliability of the contact without snake oil.

     

    note: other different implementations can work very well too, we agree.

     

     

    Finally, on my side to test your bass from your Cornwall: I recommend EEls "daisies of the galaxy"

    It was 5 euro for the Gipsy Kings album. Still a bargain, in mint condition. 

    Gipsy Kings: they are from my region, I live 12km from Arles and I have already eaten at the restaurant at the table next to them, around 2014 when they won a Grammy Award: nice and simple, people admirable with the public 👍

    There are so many examples of aggravation. Especially with conventional cabinet shapes like closed or bass reflex. Sandwich filled with sand, slate, concrete, swapping struts etc. etc.
    The CW has certainly been adapted very carefully and lovingly. In the photo I have another example of a well done cabinet in my view, my Tannoy Canterbury. The vertical narrow side openings are a sort of bass reflex opening that you can slide open and closed. The horizontal board with the 4 round holes is a brace from front to rear and there is from left to right a vertical mounted board in the middle between the holes.

    Whether this is all "scientifically correct" I do not know but the box does not drone and it sounds warm, controlled tuneful and musically alive in the entire bass range.

    The BBC boxes I also like very much in the sound behavior of the bass and the upper bass. They use thin birch plywood paired with bitumen panels inside to change the acoustic travel times or sound speed coefficient. The backs are screwed in only very loosely, creating an effect like a church bell that has a crack and no longer sounds or resonates (where to resonate is desired with the bell). The cabinet is therefore virtually interrupted in the formation of the resonance (which is again desired in that case). Many "modern" designs of enclosures try to suppress sound from the inside by using particularly thick and massive enclosure walls. But mostly they achieve a very unattractive effect. They simply increase the time until the sound escapes from the housing. The brain interprets this as an ugly time smear that sounds like annoying discoloration. The BBC design, on the other hand, decreases the time for sound to exit through the walls. The Cornwall is a classic cabinet that similarly prefers to take some resonnances but not kill the sound. That is why it has a lively sound.

    Ok this BBC conception is suitable only for smaller volumes but in that region it is very good, some of you will have heard a little BBC LS3/5a or a LS3/6.

    Another example is my beloved Fender Bassman guitar amp. Here, of course, the goal is not hi-fi but a deliberate sound. It has four 10 inch drivers on the baffle. The baffle is only screwed with four wood screws in the corners. Thus, the whole baffle vibrates when you turn up the amp to bursting (but also when you play quietly).
    In all decades there were wiseacres who wanted to fix the baffle of the Bassman "properly". With that, the sound was dead.

     

    To sum it up there are very interesting approaches and also some that I do not accept so much. But it's not as easy as it seems. No bass horns but still a challenge where a layman might think it's just a casing.

    I count the traditional Klipsch designs CW and Heresy among the very interesting and authentic speakers. I must admit that I have not heard a Cornwall and Heresy of any generation yet. But I am very interested to hear a CW4 finally and I fell in love with the Heresy4. A speaker I should always find a room for.

    The Belgians had some flashes of genius, but it must be noted that the Italians were good throughout the game. The Italians deserve their victory because their game was flamboyant and with very good phases of play and superb combinations, even if the Belgians were not unworthy.

    You have a fantastic Mark Levinson ensemble, but certainly sounding too clinical to pair with the Klipsch.

    If you don't want to break the bank, you can try to find a used and good condition small McIntosh C504 preamp. It has a warm and fantastic sound, especially with its tone controls. You plug it into your 432 amp instead of the 326 preamp, without spending a lot you get just the right amount of heat. And later you can change your 432 quietly, for example for the superb Parasound A23+ recommended here above.

    If your amp has cooling that works by convection, that is to say without fan:

    - In firstyou can lower the temperature of your amp by raising it by 12 or 20mm (about 0.50 or 0.75 inch) in addition even if it has already feet. Leave the radiators and the air vents fully open.

    - And after: if your amp is in a shelf, try to free the air around with a space on the sides and above of about 4 "(10cm) if possible, especially above .

    My Tube Cary is heating up, this is normal, the tubes themselves are very hot.
    My old McIntosh MC2125 in Class B hardly gets hot: around 25/30 ° C on the radiators.
    My Perspective Classe AB heats moderately: 50/60 ° C on the radiators.
    My new PAS audio 2002 PCA does not get hot: 30/40 ° C on the radiators.

     

    I live in the South of France it is on average 32 to 38 ° C in summer, the region's record 46 ° C in 2019, I have had air conditioning for 3 years, it is around 24/25 ° C in the rooms in summer, so the CARY can operate normally even in summer now. But it is true that before when I did not have the air conditioning the amps were hotter in the summer, even if here traditionally we cool the house at night and we close the shutters during the day to protect it from the sun and the heat the day.

     

  14. I have 2xLPs Radioactivity that I bought recently, but not Tour de France, too bad. For many their best LP is The Man-Machine, but they're all awesome. Do you know the German duo NEU! it was the rhythm section of the beginning of the group Kraftwerk: I recommend the first disc of 1971: NEU!

     

    Kraftwerk is a band that I have known since 1975, I have the 45T Radioactivity of the time at the top among others.
