  1. They are still up, the keyhole mount is working perfectly. Absolutely no issues. As long as you properly affix the mollybolts this seems a secure mounting method.
  2. That’s some nice work! If mine sounds good and even remotely looks that nice I’ll consider it a win. I need a break in the weather.
  3. I got caught up in a thread started by @EpicKlipschFan which lead me down this path. I bought the plans and started gathering parts a few weeks back. The wood was the most cumbersome as I wanted to use Baltic Birch instead of MDF (Ugghhh, MDF dust and the weight). The nearest source is 3 1/2 hours away, and we just traded our only vehicle with a hitch. I had to buy some cut pieces from Rockler. I decided on the T18 due to size & possible WAF I read, & re-read the plans, bought the 8” Dayton Audio driver from PE. I’m using a Yung 300 plate amp that was insufficient for my previous sub build, but should be great for this. I started to lay out & build a couple of weeks back. My unheated garage and weeks of incessant rain have slowed progress a little bit. Any rate at the risk of finding out I’m doing everything wrong. I’ll post a couple of pics. Thanks to everyone who turned me on to this. I hope it’s as good as advertised.
  4. I’ve got mine positioned that way for the same reason. Along the wall about midway between speakers and listening position. It sounds fine. Tbh it probably sounds better in the front pointing toward seating area. But it’s not aesthetically pleasing and it’s inconvenient.
  5. I’ve got the Yamaha RX-A1070, which is the previous model to RX-A1080. It’s a great AVR. It has the phono input for your turntable, it works fine for me. I’m using it for Surround and two channel. It does it all from Apple TV, PS4, Bluetooth to Vinyl. I’ve never had a single issue with it. (I do run a separate amp for the LF/RF). It powers La Scalas for Stereo duty or five Heresys for surround, it should be good with the RP600s. I’m sure there are other great choices on your list too, but really like mine. Oh, btw this is in my separate “music room”. No way is my lovely wife EVER going to allow a pair of LaScalas and five Herseys in a common area. Zero WAF for sure. Good idea to start small with the RP600s and build from there. Over the last twenty years in the family room, I’ve managed to gradually go from small KSB1s to RP280Fs. However, if you are smooth enough talk her into it, Heresys are great speakers.
  6. Just measured my RP280Fs to be sure. But 16 5/8” deep (not counting base, but with grill in place) 9 1/2” Wide (not including base)
  7. I’ve seen some posts lately of folks finding great deals ($200 or less) on the older RC62ii. I’d consider one of those if you can find one, and if it will fit. I used mine with RB61ii fronts, and I’m currently using it with RP280Fs and it’s more than up to the task.
  8. I’ve mounted the RP502S, using their Keyhole mounts and Mollybolts rated for 60#. So far, two days in and they are still up. They probably need a safety backup just in case. I haven’t sorted a way to do that. Possibly use the threaded mount in some way?
  9. Until I got caught up in this thread. I had only heard the term “tuba subwoofer”. I knew nothing about them. It seems like a build I can pull off without a huge investment. I hadn’t considered anything thing beyond the wood, driver & amp. I do not have a DSP of any sort. Apologies to the OP, as my intention wasn’t to hijack the thread. Thanks for the input though. I suppose I should start another thread once I’m underway. I’ll look forward to advice from someone with more skill than myself. I’ll tag you once I get started. Maybe even before I start. would be a better idea.
  10. I just ordered plans for a couple of the tuba subs. I’m ready to be awed. If this works, maybe I’ll upgrade the AVR in the family room with the money I didn’t spend on a subwoofer.
  11. I’m using an RC-62ii with RP280Fs, in the family room. It sounds fantastic, at least to my non expert, aging ears. I was using the the RC-62 with RB-61IIs, it sounded great with those as well. For that price, I don’t see a downside.
  12. Following this, as I’ve just bought a pair of RP-502S, and I’ve been trying to decide how to mount them. They are scheduled to arrive Monday. I’ve used the “videosecu” mounts (the first link in the OP) to wall mount my RB 61IIs. They work well, and hold the speakers in place fairly well. Now I did commit the sacrilege of using a small screw in the bottom of the speakers to secure them to the mounts. It’s out of sight, and better than risking a smashed speaker, or an injured person. The 61s are heavy, at nearly eighteen pounds each, plus the mounts (maybe two or three pounds each?). The problem is finding a wall stud that’s in the right place. I just didn’t trust using wall anchors. I think they’d work well on the R-51Ms
  13. IIRC, when I first hooked a sub to my Yamaha AVR, I had a similar issue. Yes, I did set the sub to “on”. But it was like there was still no output to the sub. It corrected itself after I turned the AVR off then back on. Then it recognized that there was a sub connected. Give it a try, couldn’t hurt. Make sure the Sub has power, and plugged directly into the outlet, at least that’s what I’ve heard from people who know more than I.
  14. I bought three Miyabi kitchen knives a few years back. I tried one and was an instant “true believer”. Buy a steel for maintenance, but you’ll need a couple of water stones when they need sharpened. I’m decent with a whetstone and can bring them close to their factory sharpness, but only “close”. I’m guessing there are folks you can send them to, who’ll bring them back to their factory razor edge.
  15. We tried a tempur-pedic years ago. At the end of the trial period I kind of liked it. My wife HATED everything about it.
  16. We bought a Sleep Number bed about four years ago. (M7 I think?) It was pricey, I’m talking La Scala II money (probably more like Cornwall III retail money). However it was some of the best money we’ve ever spent. Four years and we still love it. There is a store in Charleston and a couple in Columbus. I’d recommend you give them a try. They have lots of options.
  17. No, you just need a separate room, a non public area where she doesn’t have to look at them. Worked for me. Actually if my LS-BRs looked like those new ones my wife might even allow them in a “public” area. Nah probably not.
  18. Oh hell! I’ve been nerding out for the last hour or so. I’ve already been trying to sort out out who I know in England that can hook me up with one from the original company. Still in business! I am surprised that there are still serviceable original ones left. I’d have thought they’d be all faded and discolored after so many years. Very much appreciate the info. It’s always good to learn that there is more to a simple thing than one thought. Thank you.
  19. @Tigerman you were certainly spot on about the “new” and the 20oz seems about right. The photo steered you wrong on the color. It’s a plain aluminum model. Good job on being a Lava Lamp expert. I now realize that my knowledge on them is limited. I’m off too educate myself. Feel free to steer me in the right direction.
  20. I’m thinking yes. My Denon is rated @95 watts/channel (2channel) and it fills our 13’X20’ room with serious volume. I’ve seen over 100db from my usual listening position (app 10’ away) with no distortion or issues. Good choice on the RP8000s I hear they’ve really upped the finish on the cabinets. I got a good deal and couldn’t pass up the older model.
  21. I’m not going to be able to assist much with your audio issues. It seems that you’ve got it narrowed to a couple of likely possibilities and I hope you get those sorted quickly. However, I do want to tell you that I’m running the exact same LCR set up, in our Family Room, powered by a Denon AVR X2200W. I just added the RP280Fs last week, replacing RF52iis. I’m here to tell you it’s fantastic! Even with the relatively low power of my AVR, the 280s rock! Maybe not enough to “Piss Off” the neighbors (they aren’t that close) but more than enough to annoy my lovely wife. You’ve chosen well, I hope you get to enjoy them to their full potential very soon.
  22. Purple liquid with pink “Lava” tough to get the color right in pic. I love these things. I remember them from when I was a kid in the sixties, they were new, hip, & cool. I was blown away.
  23. I’d only be able to find a Lava Lamp and the bourbon. 😀 Actually, we do have a couple of the salt lamps. I like those too. A pyramid shaped one sits on my liquor cabinet.
  24. I’m thinking LSD and a classic Lava lamp may make a better pairing than the bourbon.
  25. Agree. I ran rb61ii L/R with an RC 62ii Ctr for a while in a somewhat smaller room, it sounded good. Probably not as good as RB81iiS, but good and reasonably priced.
